5Great Pond for the Price

This pond/waterfall was easy to install, and looks great. The morning after installation a frog moved in! I recommend it to anyone who would like an inexpensive small water feature.

5Satisfied!
By Shannon R. Cobb
we purchased the pond kit last summer and installed it. Was pretty painless and we are pretty happy with the pond in general. We did have a problem with the pump almost a year later. We recieved EXCELLENT customer service from Northern Tool and its back up and running again.Overall, the pond is really good but the service from Northern Tool makes me realize that we made the correct decision with this pond kit. Thanks Northern Tool. Good CS is hard to find these days.

It is actually a really great pond but it took us a while to get the right depth in all of the various gradations. We love it in the backyard. Very soothing.

4Superb binocular, bad service.
By Daniel Campeau
I've used this binocular for over 7 years and I can validate every thing that Vallis said in a previous review. You cannot go wrong with this unbelievable binocular. But, in the same previous review, one thing is, by experience, not true:"Still, one need not be extremely cautious with these optics and water, as a little water usually won't hurt them. And if they are damaged, Nikon's warranty will have them covered: for 25 years, Nikon will repair or replace them (at their discretion) if they are damaged, at a cost of $10 + shipping - even if the damage was your fault!"It's right to say that you don't need to be extremely cautious. I've done some birding in rainy condition and I never had any problems with my binocular. But this summer I went true a rough sea in a boat and a big wave of salt water splashed over the deck and got me a little wet. At first, the binocular seemed fine but, after 10 minutes, the left part became completely black. Some salt water touched the prism and a chemical reaction turned its surface to black. Absolutely no light passed true it anymore. The right side of the binocular was ok.I sent the binocular to Nikon with the proof of guaranty. After 8 or 9 calls from me and SIXTEEN WEEKS, I got a message telling me that it was not possible to repair them but that they offered me a brand new one for... 500 $ can. (About 450 us)So, that proves that they are not waterproof and that they don't repair them or exchanges them for free.Nikon service was, for me, next to zero. But this binocular is still incredible.

5Astonishing image quality and brightness!
By Vallis
It is rare to find a pair of binoculars with the brightness, sharpness and clarity of the Nikon Superior E! This piece of equipment is truly amazing! It provides such a crisp, true-to-life image without color distortions or image degradation on the edge of the view. For its price, the image these produce is unparalleled. Throw in the wide field of view (the size of the "window" you look through) and a large depth of field (the amount of distance that can be focused on at one time) and you have a binocular that offers one of the very best images optics can produce. The Nikon Superior E's come in three versions: an 8x32, a 10x42 and a 12x50. The first number in each of these, the power, represents the number of times closer objects in the binocular appear. As power increases, so does the magnification of the image, but not without side effects: field of view goes down (the window gets smaller), stability is reduced (the binocular is harder to hold steady) and more light is needed to produce the same quality image. More light can be gathered if the binocular's aperture (the size of the front lenses) is also increased. That's where the second of the two numbers comes in. The number after the power number represents the aperture, (the diameter of the front lenses in millimeters). A larger aperture means a brighter image in low light conditions, but also means a bulkier, heavier and more expensive binocular. Most bird watchers prefer an 8x42 binocular, with hunters and those bird watchers that spend a great deal of time watching hawks, eagles, shorebirds and water fowl often preferring a 10x50 binocular. The Superior E, unfortunately, has a smaller than optimal aperture for its power.Despite this small Aperture:Power ratio, the high quality glass and lens coatings used in the Superior E produce a brighter image than nearly all other binoculars! The only time most 8x42 binoculars will appear brighter than the 8x32 Superior E is in very low light, and even this is usually only noticeable by young people whose pupils can dilate more than the average person 40 or older. To these people, the brightness of the superior E will be reduced as the sun sets a little before many 8x42 binoculars, but the Superior E will still appear brighter and sharper at other times of the day.The Superior E is water resistant, but not water proof. This limits the use of the binoculars somewhat, making it less than ideal for tropical conditions, use on a boat, or bird watching in the rain (which can yield some fantastic sights!) Still, one need not be extremely cautious with these optics and water, as a little water usually won't hurt them. And if they are damaged, Nikon's warranty will have them covered: for 25 years, Nikon will repair or replace them (at their discretion) if they are damaged, at a cost of $10 + shipping - even if the damage was your fault! These are a great pair of optics, and as you can see, I highly recommend them. If, however, you feel that greater durability, water-proofing and low-light capabilities are more important to you, and you don't want to spend $900 to $1500 for Swarovski or Leica, I would go with the Eagle Optics 8x42 Platinum Rangers. These are durable, water-proof, have an image quality that, though not as amazing as the Superior E, is still nothing short of breathtaking, and have a similar no-fault warranty to keep them safe. The Platinum Rangers are also considerably cheaper (~$350 - $425 at the time of this review), making them an excellent buy. (The Platinum Rangers are not available through Amazon.com, but can be ordered through eagleoptics.com).The Superior E's are not perfect in every respect (and no binocular is) but despite a few drawbacks, I give the Superior E's 5 stars! As I said, there are no perfect binoculars - you can't improve one quality of optical equipment without hurting another quality. I don't expect this binocular to be everything, but it is the best at being what it is: image perfection!

4Exceptional, but not waterproof
By James Kielland
This is truly a marvelous binocular, and unquesitonably one of my favorites. The size is perfect, it's lightweight and very comfortable to hold. And the images are breathtaking in their clarity and detail. In terms of image quality I prefer this binocular over much more expensive models by Zeiss, Leica, and Swarovski. Yes, it's that good.

The 8x32 designation means that this binocular magnifies the image by 8 times and the objective lens (this is the lens pointed towards what you are looking at that lets the light in) is 32mm. While some are drawn to 10x42 models or even 10x50, it needs to be stressed that more is not always better. Additional magnification tends to only enhance the minor muscular trembles in your hands and arms, making the image seem less stable. Additionally, higher magnification leads to a constrained field of view. While the 42 and 50mm lenses do allow more light in and thus theoretically lead to brighter images and higher resolution, this is an advantage that is seen in only very unusual circumstances. And it brings a lot more weight and bulk as the penalty. For most terrestrial observation, this 8x32 combines exceptional image quality in a light-weight, ergonomic package.

The downside is that this binocular is not waterproof. While some careful preparation should allow a user to keep safe in the field, I've had more than a few experiences in tropical forests where unexpected rains have left me thoroughly saturated. For most users and in most applications, this issue shouldn't be too much of a problem. But if you are prone to stepping off the path and going into some inhospitable areas with severe tropical rain, I'd suggest a waterproof model. You may wish to look at the Nikon Venturer series.

If you're looking for a comfortable, light-weight binocular that is easy to carry, this is the one. If you're looking for binocular with images that are astonishing in their clarity and purity of color, this is one. And if in most instances you will be avoiding situations where waterproofing is essential, it's hard to go wrong with the Nikon Superior E.

If this model was waterproof I would give it 5 stars and unhestatingly recommend it for general use over any other binocular currently available. It's that good.

5a window on a new world
By Vandevenne
As a medical doctor somewhat unwillingly dragged in IT by the accidents of life, I suffer from frequent bouts of nostalgia, remembering fondly the time where I was studying life sciences. That's during one of those episode that I bought this gadget, thinking it would probably end up gathering dust on a shelve. Boy, I was wrong! The microscope is so light and well designed that it can be taken anywhere. It is up and running in a few seconds, it's waterproof and it is sturdy. Its optical quality is beyond reproach.

But what really stunned me is the sheer amount of interesting things the 20x magnification is putting within my reach: seemingly uninteresting insects such as aphids offer are seen tantalizing amount of detail; closely watching a dining spider is something you will not forget soon. In the vegetal world, patterns seem to pop out of nowhere. This is also an incredible educational toy for children since it turns the most basic garden into a giant natural history museum.

One caveat, but not an unexpected one: since it is designed to be extremely light, no light source is provided. A white led connected to a cheap 5V supply can be helpful in low light conditions.

3Nikon Mini - hard to get at
By John Katko
I use the Nikon Mini microscope to identify sedges and grasses in the field. It is indeed small - it fits in its case under my car seat. And its plastic body makes it very light; it's no problem to put it into a little backback. However, there are two issues that make it less than perfect to use. First, the field of view is very narrow - only 11 mm. Second, it is difficult to get your eye close to the lenses because your nose runs into the bulky ocular carriage (I'm not especially large-beaked, either). This means you have to really arch your neck to get a good look at the specimen - pretty uncomfortable after a few minutes' examination.I'm not sure how durable the body of the microscope will be; although the optics are good so far as they go, I can't imagine the body adding much cost to the microscope, so $250 is a pretty stiff price to pay for it. It is interesting that one of the suggested tags is "educational toy"; this is pretty pricey for a toy.It would be better to get something a little bigger and bulkier if it had better viewing features.

4A fine gift for a young scientist, it really works . And is truly mini
By Gerald Siegel
I bought this item because it had the Nikon name and was small and I thought of it as a gift to a graduating student. I am satisfied after a couple weeks of using it. I have so far been dismally unsuccessful in locating accessory "stage clips." anywhere... (the holes are already pre=molded into the plastic stage in case you wondered) online dealers seem to be unaware about those Nikon parts... calls to Nikon USA telephone numbers has me concluding this is a very small seller item, too bad, it is a good gift for smart kids to get them off the tube. I earnestly believe Nikon could have and should have included the stage clips (they would be smaller than standard lab sizein the package. FYI, I added two AAA cell 10 hour LED book lights for 20.00 each for illumination which is really necessary IMO ( called called "Mighty Bright" book lights from Amazon, for twenty dollars apiece) Necessary. Also consider, for home use, getting a round table cast iron microphone stand and adapting it to a 1/4" bushing in the bottom of the stage if you get more serious. Still won't add much in cost and increases stability on a table. It is plastic,ALL plastic (except the optics) including the focus rack and pinion. It is not lab quality. I mean. But it is more than a toy...optics are not bad if narrow in field. It is a lot of fun to see objects of about 11mm blown up 20 times.Postscript:My gift person may have to wait a while while I look at aphids on little buds for a while.... I think it is fun to have a 20 power stereo microscope. I can't tell you it whether it is worth the cost,up to you to judge.

2Not as good as I had hoped....
By Gary7666
First off, build quality is poor. Flat bar used as center braces was cut too short, maybe 3/8 to 1/2 inch. Rather than get a piece that is cut to proper length, the welder tried to weld the short piece into place. On one weld in particular, the weld length is less than a quarter inch long. The rest of the "Open Air" weld was just left, poor workmanship!Holes are punched, not drilled. When you punch tubing, it dents it in, looks to be about a 1/4 inch on both sides.I know I will be welding on this in the near future. As far as "Adjustable working width, 18-Inch - 42-Inch for versatility", that is misleading. Yes you can move the tines narrower, but the implement frame is still 42", it does not adjust like other brands.

4Very Useful, But Slightly Dangerous
By Robert Thorbury
A year ago, I would have cheerfully told you that there was no reason for anyone to waste money on a Zip drive. The largest capacity model then available was the 250, which was less than half of what a CD-RW could hold. CD burners were shipping pretty much as standard on all new computers. I grudgingly shelled out the money for a Zip drive on my new machine only because I needed some way of transferring data from the old one, which had a Zip 100 drive but no CD burner.

It didn't take me long to realize what a very wise investment I'd made. I prefer to synchronize my important documents and system settings using something like Windows Briefcase (barely useful) or Scooter Software's "Beyond Compare", which does a tremendous job of not only synchronizing files and entire directory trees, but scanning each file byte-by-byte for any signs of changes and/or corruption. It's very easy to update or repair any file the program flags.

What I discovered very quickly was that CD-RW drives were utterly worthless for this task. It didn't matter whether I used Roxio's "Direct CD", which came with the computer, or Nero's much-touted "InCD". The former constantly and reliably corrupted my data, while the latter just as reliably crashed my computer every time I tried it. Windows XP has built-in CD-writing software, but it is useless for the kind of file synchronization that I do.

"You can treat your CD just like a giant floppy!!!" Yeah, right! Nice try, guys!

Worse yet, as I troubleshooted Roxio's software, I discovered their nasty little secret. CDs created under Version 4 of "Direct CD" could not be read by Version 5, and people running Windows XP couldn't load Version 4 without crashing their computers. I wondered: What would happen when Version 6 came out?

So suddenly I found myself using that Zip 250 as my main means of file backup, along with a spare external hard drive. But, of course, 250 MB is not, by today's standards, a great deal of space. I needed three disks to do the job, and these were almost full. Plus, the Zip drive was painfully slow.

Thus, when Iomega announced their new Zip 750, I took immediate notice. I have actually worked with two of these devices. The one at work is a USB 2.0 model running on Windows 2000, while the one at home, running on Windows XP Home, is the nearly identical FireWire model featured on this page.

Setup of the FireWire device on Windows XP is very simple. You plug it into your FireWire port, wait for Windows Plug-and-Play to recognize it, then insert a Zip 750 disk and start working. Windows XP has built-in support for Zip drives, so you don't need to install anything from the included CD for basic file system operations. If, however, you want to write- or password-protect your Zip disk, you'll have to install Iomega Tools from the CD. They also offer a basic file backup utility. Since I haven't done anything with these, I can't comment on how well they work.

I started using the Zip 750 at home on December 10th of last year, and basically I've been very happy with it. While not as fast as a hard drive, it's certainly a major improvement over the Zip 250. I have yet to see one file be corrupted, and "Beyond Compare" has done literally dozens of very thorough scans on my backups. This is the very first time in my nearly 20 years of working with PCs that I can say with reasonable certainty that my backups are secure.

One performance bottleneck I've encountered is, according to Iomega's web site, due to the way Windows XP operates. Namely, copying (or comparing) large numbers of small files is drastically slower than copying small numbers of large files, even if the overall byte count is the same. So I use PKZip in a few places to create larger archives for faster copying.

The only reason I don't give this drive five stars is because of a dangerous design flaw. This is a very handsome-looking drive with a bright, shiny, metal plate on top. Unfortunately, said metal is an excellent conductor of static electricity. The very night I installed the drive on my home computer, I zapped it with my finger while attempting to insert a disk. This immediately knocked the drive off-line, and nothing but turning the computer off, then back on, would get Windows to recognize it again. My heart about stopped until I was satisfied that no permanent damage was done, either to the drive or to the computer.

Considering how light the drive is, there is no way to avoid touching it while doing an insert. Otherwise it simply slides backwards as you push.

The solution? Decidedly low-tech! I powered everything down, unplugged the drive, took that handy little anti-static bag the thing shipped in, wrapped it around the drive, and Scotch-taped it in place! Since then, I've had peace of mind and no problems at all!

The Zip 750 will reliably read and write the older Zip 250 disks (albeit more slowly), and will even read (but not write to) my ancient Zip 100 disks. Unlike some of those CD writing programs, Iomega takes backward compatibility seriously.

So, if you want speed and reliability, this drive is well worth the money.

4A solid product
By Reid V. Wilkening
I ordered the zip 750 to go with a new computer, that would no longer recognize my old, parallel port zip 100. Overall, i have been extremely pleased with the drive. The 750 mb disks are massive, compared to my old 100mb disks. With the firewire connection, it is as fast or faster than another zip i have with a atapi connection. There are only a few things that prevent this drive from recieving five stars. Fist, in order to connect it to a computer with a four-pin port, you need to call iomega and ask them to send you a power supply. Although they send the adapter quickly, and it is free, the additional step is a pain. Another problem i encountered is that the drive only comes with a six pin cord. If you want to attach the drive to a computer with a four pin port, be ready to shell out another thirty bucks for another cord. Although this should be no suprise, for some reason, the new drives can read but not write the old disks. It is evidently clear on the packaging that this is the case, but i still am frequently annoyed by that. My final complaint is that occasionally, on startup, windows XP does not immeadiatly recognize the drive. If you pull out the chord, wait a few seconds and then plug it back in, the drive is accesible. Agian, not a serious problem but an occasional hassle.Other than these minor problems, the zip 750 drive is an exceptional piece of equipment, and a true heir to this long line of sturdy, well designed storage devices.

5The perfect grill for the RV
By Erik J. Mccullough
This truly is the perfect grill for the RV. Before buying, I researched everything from the Weber Q (good, not perfect), to the Themos Grill2Go (not really a grill). Before it came, I was thinking that my high expectations from all these glowing reviews would cause me to not like it as much, but it's even better than some of these reviews! It's very portable, and folds up to a small size. And cooking on it is very easy, as well as just as important, clean up. If you get one, I recommend you also order a second grill grate to replace the griddle sometimes. (It comes with 1 of each). Griddle is great for eggs, grilling onions, etc., but it's nice to have the maximum space to grill hamburgers and hotdogs for the parties. Finally, this blue model is the best of the three Coleman Road Trip Grills, too. Even though there are some with additional letters, this one has heavier duty grates than the other two, and a better stand system (in my opinion).

5"The grill that saved camping"
By Janet Becker
We purchased this Road Trip after having a horrible experience with a grill from Cabelas. That grill had the lava rocks that moved every time you moved the grill and besides that the legs fell off. We were looking for something that would have fold under legs and no rocks. The Road Trip saved our camping days. We purchased a bag for it, keep it stored in the belly of the camper and with putting water in the tray below the burners, it is very very easy to clean up. You can place this on the picnic table to cook on or use the fold down legs. We have also discovered that this is the best way to cook grilled onions and potatoes or pork chops or chicken, etc on the griddle. Very very convenient and easy clean up. We both rate this a 5 stars. Great job, Coleman. Signed happy camper, Janet Becker

5Use as full-time grill
By Ragnar Danneskjöld
This grill replaced our old gas grill at home. In four years I've went through 4 grills to rust that occurs naturally here, just by a metal object being outside. I wanted a solution to finally eliminate that problem. This fits the bill with the fold up capability, and the storage bag to keep it fresh. You're still cooking over an open flame with the grill plate.

It comes with a griddle and a grill, each covering half of the cooking area, and I've obtained a 20-lb tank attachment, and an extra grill, for the big jobs. Try this feature out: the grill, griddle, and drip trays are washable in the dishwasher.... I can't say that about my old grills.

5Best purchase this summer!
By Larry Cadiere
This fan is awesome. We thought about buying one of those small blowers, but after reading reviews on them vs this fan....it was this fan hands down. It blows and circulates the air better than we expected. We use it outside patio, no bugs, just wonderful air. Really needed this, its so hot outside. Its a little loud, but it cools so well, it does not bother us. It was easy to set up, easy to move around. Good choice for us.

5Excellent buy
By Mary Desmet
If you want a fan that moves a whole lot of air, this is the one for you. I bought it to dry my carpets after I shampoo them. I gets them complelely dry in 6 hours. Before it took covering the carperts with sheets and still took 24 hrs even with a small fan. This is a very large fan but I have room in my shed to store it. It is simply designed so not much can go wrong.
