A great product but flawed

This is one of the coolest gadgets I've seen, but it's not so hot if you're not willing to modify it.First the idea is brilliant. The raise/lower mechanism works well and is heavy duty. There's no locking of the mechanism once you have it adjusted for height and that's probably not ideal, but it's stiff enough to stay put when you have it where you want it. It works.The tilt adjustment does lock and it works well. The keyboard tray is good.The mouse tray, on the other hand, is cheesy and bounces when you use the mouse. My wrist got sore after a couple of days because I was not able to put any weight on the tray - ended up basically holding my arm up against gravity, and that hurt.The solution is easy if you have the tools to cut a piece of plywood and replace both trays with a new single tray. I used 3/4-inch plywood cut to 11 3/4 x 25 3/4"to hold my Microsoft ergonomic keyboard and Joy/Wow mouse. Be careful not to cut it so wide that it won't retract under your desk. The mechanism is strong enough to hold the extra weight of the plywood without any problem.Finally, I'm not sure if the standing desk idea is great or not - I'm enjoying it for short periods now - but my plan is to use this with a TreadDesk treadmill. They offer a motorized desk so you can use it with a chair vs. walking on the treadmill, but it's a lot simpler to raise and lower your keyboard than the whole desk. With the modification I describe, I believe this will work very well, and I'm very happy that the folks at Fellowes offer it.

Did they not test this on babies?

My son loved his Tiny Love mobile, and I thought the activity center would be a nice replacement when he grew out of it at 5 months.Well, not so much. The supposedly simple side for younger babies features a musical smiley face button and a squeaker that require LOTS of force to make them work. My son is now 7 months old and he still can't operate them. (But he CAN use the little squeaker on the other side!) The knocker with the rattle also needs a lot of force, and even if you do manage to move it, it hardly produces any sound as it only moves a fraction of an inch. The two spinners are great and he loves those, but you can get those on any activity center. The unit is quite tall, and so far, whether lying in his playpen or sitting on the floor, he can only reach these bottom two toys.On the other side, the toy that pops out and giggles is a lovely idea but we just can't get that door close and STAY closed. I went to a store and tried every one on the shelf and they all had the same problem. So he can't play with that feature either, really. And you need to move the lever for the spinner just so, at the right speed and with the right amount of force if you want the disc to spin.Then, most disappointing of all, there's the music. The horrible, frenetic, tinny, nasty music that was such a shock after having the Symphony in Motion mobile. It sounded so bad that I was sure the batteries had run down, but even after replacing them it sounds the same - cheap and incredibly irritating. As did all the other models in the toy store.On the plus side, the toy is really solid, made of good quality plastic, and the colours and the design are lovely and bright and attractive.It's outrageously expensive - I live in Europe so we paid about $75 for it - especially considering most of the activities are useless. I'm quite annoyed that poor old Grandad shelled out so much money for it, and didn't keep the receipt. We actually get more fun out of the old FP activity center we bought on ebay for a couple of dollars to keep at Grandma's. Lesson learned - new and expensive isn't always best!

Hours of Fun!

My wife bought this Activity Center because we love the Tiny Love toys, and with this one we were not disappointed. Our son plays on this for hours, both sides. We were somewhat disappointed that more than just two songs are available, and after time, you will be humming them in your sleep. The only concern I had with this toy was the two small yellow plastic loopholes on the bottom of the toy. While flipping it over, hung or not on his pack and play, one of my son's fingers would get stuck in the hole and he could not figure how to remove it - tight fit. He would then panic and bend his finger back, causing him to cry out in pain or distress. I removed the loops and filed them down so this would not happen again. Not sure why they are there. Despite this, this is a great toy.

A Great Buy

We've had this toy since my daughter was 3 months old & she's now 7 months old. We love it. She loves to push all the different buttons & listen to all the different sounds it makes. It's very colorful! My daughter will sit in her crib & play with this toy for a long time after she's woke up from a nap or in the morning. It's wonderful b/c you can hang it on the side of the crib or put it on the floor for her to play with. I would recommend anyone to buy this toy.

Easy, good looking privacy

Purchased 2 years ago. Very sturdy shade. Easy to set-up and take-down. Well made. Nice looking. Only complaint is that after 2+ year of constant outdoor use, exposed to high winds, rain, and a few below freezing nights, the metal skelton is leaning forward a bit (<10 degrees). But no easier or better looking way to solve a minor privacy problem. Will purchase again.

High Quality Shaving Set - WAS an Excellent Value (But is no Longer)

I have shaved with a shaving brush & soap for a couple of years now, until recently using a low-end (plastic) Burma-Shave shaving brush to make up my morning lather. After surfing many internet sites, I found this one to be be the best value in terms of style, (presumed) quality and cost. (Some comparable sets go for $150 - $200!) When I received it, I knew I had made a great decision as to the cost/value of my purchase. The brush and razor handles, cup and stand are all very high quality nickle-plated steel. The brush and razor handle are solid metal, which provide considerable heft. The badger bristles on the brush are quite fine and work up a good lather quickly. The razor handle is compatible with a Gillette Mach 3 Razor (my preferred brand). The shaving soap that accompanies the set is passable, but I prefer to use my favorite - Lightfoot's Pure Pine-Scented Soap (that I obtained elsewhere). If you like to shave "the old fashioned way" like I do, this is a luxurious way to do it (without breaking the bank).UPDATE (July 2010): When I reviewed this item in 2004, it cost less than 1/2 of its current price, and about 50% less than most similar items. While it is still a great item, I am hard-pressed to justify paying $179 for it today.

Price is Right and So Is the Quality

I started looking at shave sets after reading articles in various health magazines. Other shaving sites may offer shave sets, but this, by far, is the best quality I have seen for the price. The brush, stand, and razor have considerable heft to them as well as an attractive appearnce and shine. The only item lacking in this kit may be the included shave soap. However, the money saved can easily be spent on premium shave soaps, oils, and other items from other shaving supply sites. I also noticed that I sometimes knocked the shave brush out of the stand. With a brush of this heft, you will definately notice when it hits your vanity top!!!The appearance is very traditional, but is also quite attractive and the cartidges used are the ever popular Gillette Mach 3.Bottom line: If you want to purchase an entire shave set for what you would pay for a similar quality badger brush on another site, this is the kit for you. There is little to dissapoint.

My husband was shopping for a badger shaving brush and I purchased this set as a birthday gift. He has used it daily for the past year and said the brush is excellent -- the right size, shape and weight for his hand. He also likes the accessories which would have had to have been purchased individually. It is an elegant design and functions well. A good buy.

Very nice choice for Pentax Digital SLRs

This Pentax flash offers all stuff you'd expect from a basic AF flash (power zoom, bounce, AF illuminator), plus a bit more.Like most of the camera companies, Pentax offers a basic and more advanced (or powerful) flash. As basic flashes go, this one only lacks "swivel" (side-to-side adjustment) from ranking 5-stars. In terms of exposure accuracy, this flash ranks equal to the best.Useful features included that aren't typically found in cheaper flashes are:1) Built-in wide angle diffuser. Need a bit more width in the coverage? A pull out panel is located in the top of the flash;2) Built-in "catch light". This small, white card is in the same space as the diffuser. If using bounce, this will help elimate shadows caused by the bounce, and puts a little gleam in the eye;3) High-Flash synch. Most useful for outdoor portrait photography, this allows you to set the shutter speed to faster than normal, allowing you to control the depth-of-field;4) "Spot Beam" function. In low light situations, the AF illuminator in the flash fires to help the AF system of the camera. The SB features allows the illuminator to work even when the flash is not used for exposure (such as in a museum);5) Command functions. Unlike the Nikon SB-600 or Canon 430EX, this flash can be used to control and trigger multi-flash operations.A very good basic flash, only a swivel away from 5-star perfection!

It is one terrific flash!

It is a terrific flash! Before I converted to Pentax, which is in my view is the only brand at a moment that is driven by photography and not by marketing department; I was HUGE fan of Minolta before it ended in Sony's hands. And at a time Minolta had really cool (even by today's means) flashes. But even that Minolta is far, far from of what this Pentax's baby can do!First of all for all K10D owners, this flash will work as intelligent remote flash controlled by your camera's flash or in combination with it. It does it simply AWESOME! You have now two flashes and possibilities are endless. For the money I ordered two of the flashed instead of one of their more expensive model and I have complete professional three point lighting solution for about $360!!! In wireless mode it supports advanced functions, allows all adjustments etc. This flash supports superb Hi Speed Sync and I mean it is superb! The flash is so precise it capable of preserving the most delicate shadows if you need it. The wide angle adapter along with white board is so nice to have handy!One more thing to mention, this flash is very frugal too! It is for a first time in my life that pro level flash with all these belt and whistles was keep going all the day long on four cheapest AAs from Walgreens! My previous Sony's flash simply refused then instantly! This thing was firing and firing and firing and the recharge times were just tip top.Absolutely awesome flash as I said, really photography tool!

A nice flash. I like it more than my AF540FGZ

It is a very compact flash with outstanding built quality.Some people complain about lack of horizontal movement.I do not have any problem with this, as I can always use it off-camera with my K10D in wireless mode.I have also the Pentax AF540FGZ flashgun, so I can compare both units.Unless I really need the power of the AF540FGZ, I prefer the 360 over the 540 for the reasons below:- design and built quality is superior to the ones of 540 (changing batteries in the AF540FGZ is a nightmare due to poor design of the battery compartment cover - difficult to open and especially to close it)- it is compact and fits in my smaller bag

Sony Walkman accessory for car stereo hookup

I got this Sony Walkman accessory package at Amazon. I love my Sony MP3 player but wanted to be able to play all my music in the car (legally, without headphones). There were 2 major ways to do this: 1) buy a small FM transmitter that broadcasts from the MP3 to the radio 2)get an adapter that looks like a tape cartridge but actually routes the music from the MP3 directly to the stereo electronics. I chose #2 and bought the package manufactured by Sony.This is one of the better deals I have every made. The kit is inexpensive, straightforward to connect and reproduces the music wonderfully. I had heard that this type of kit produces an audible hum. Yes, it does, but at a level so low that you can only hear it with no music playing and the system cranked up almost full force. It has never been a problem--I've never heard it while in use and wouldn't even have looked for it except that a reviewer somewhere did mention it (also at a very low level).This is a 5 star accessory kit and extremely easy to purchase through Amazon.
