4Tripp Lite PR50 Power Supply
By Michael Symonette
I've been using this product about 3 weeks with no complaints at all. The unit runs a Yaesu FT-950 Ham Radio Transceiver. The unit is rock solid, no voltage sag, no noise, the heat is pronounced, no vibration and no hum. The shipping container is an embarrassment and was damaged. The internal brown packing paper is a joke for a product this heavy. Lastly this one is truly a quality control issue, the rubber feet are missing. I'll contact Tripp Lite and see what gives.

5Packs a punch.
By Pigpen
This beast is heavy, big, and has plenty of power. I use it in my garage to run my RCI2970N2. Power supply is quiet. Have had no issues or heat problems. I don't yak on the radio all day to heat it up a lot but when I talk it does its job.

5A player for those who listen
By Scott Atkins
First, let me say this player is the best one I have ever owned. Now that doesn't mean a thing unless I explain that I've owned about 8 portable CD players, and this is my 3rd mp3 CD player.

I got this player to listen to books on CD while at work (often times converted to mp3 or Atrac so that I don't have to change CDs.) As such I often push the envelope of compression and at times I'll have 400+ mp3 files on one CD. I've found you can really tell a lot about how well the player is made by using it under these extreme cases, so here's a feature list and my thoughts on each feature.

Batteries:A definite plus. If you have regular CDs, this player will last about 30 hours, and with mp3/atrac you get that near 100 hours of play time on 1 set. Oh, and using NiMH batteries work great with this player, I highly recommend adding a set and a 1 hour charger. It took a week before I had the battery meter go down one notch, but it went down quite quickly after that. Also, it should be noted that this player uses a technology where it conserves power by using the spinning down CD to recharge an internal battery. Really cool to show your friends.

Atrac:This was a surprise to me.

Atrac is a proprietary format (used with mini-disc) and it offers better compression than mp3. The software that came with this player will convert from mp3 to Atrac, but it is painfully slow. On the other hand, if you are ripping a CD for the first time, converting to Atrac is faster than ripping to mp3 by a factor of 1.5. The part that was disappointing was that you couldn't save your CD and add more files at a later time, it had to be done all at once.

The sound quality is the same, and quite frankly my advice is this; if you already have mp3s, just burn them on a CD. However, if you have a bunch (10 or more) CDs that you want to put on a single CD use Atrac (but remember it is only compatible with Sony players.)

Something else to consider is that there is no equivilent tool for Linux users, which is a real shame. If Sony was to support Linux, then I'm sure there would be easy ways to re-configure the software to better suit those power users

Overall, I rate this feature a mixed bag.

mp3:Perfect. Quite a surprise, as my mp3s are often variable bit rate and on the high end of compression. Other players have trouble at the level of compression I use, not knowing when a track really ends, this player worked perfectly. One annoyance, sometimes there's a 1-2 second gap when loading the next mp3.

Random mode:Good algorithm. I've had players that would play the same song 3 times in a row, because they didn't have a good method for choosing a random song. This player doesn't do that at all. Another plus for the Sony developers.

File System:If you're like me, you like a nice, organized file system to order things. This player works great with folder and such. The only downside is sometimes folder names get cut off due to the display, so put the disc number first if you want to see it using the jump wheel. Also it is alphabetical, case sensitive, so don't be surprised if Zebra comes before aardvark. Finally, as adding leading zeros is automatic for me, I don't know how this player will work without them, so make sure you leave them on (not needed for Atrac.)

Oh one more thing, because I may have hundreds of files on a CD I was expecting a long time to load the CD. However, this player loaded it quite quickly, a very nice surprise.

Resets/Resume Mode:This is another annoyance with this player. Every once a while it will reset and you'll loose your place in a CD. This happens so infrequently though, one shouldn't worry about it. On flip side, this player remembers where you were when you stopped, so you can always pick up right where you left off (even in the middle of a track.) Very cool. Another plus.

Durability:This player is solid. I have no worries about it breaking like my Panasonic did. It's quite rugged, and will take some real abuse.

Remote:Remotes on these types of players are inline with headphones, so you don't have to mess with the unit to skip past a track or such. This player has the spot for a remote, but it doesn't come with one. I contacted Sony about finding one, as it would make this player even better, but I didn't get a response. I'd really like a remote for this player, it is one of the only things I can find lacking with it. The remote is included in the next step up, but that version has no controls on the player it's self.

Summary:If you have the money, this player will satisfy even the most discriminating user. I have been using it for two months, and love it. The only thing that could make it better is a remote, and some improvements with the software. Overall, definitely worth the money, and the +5 rating.

5best player out there
By dan
this is my first time reviewing anything online, and the reason i feel compelled to do so is because i think that this discman is an absolute must for anyone out shopping for an mp3/cd player (Especially one for the car). i have spent quite a bit of time researching for the best cd player out there, have owned quite a few, and without a doubt this is the best one. where to start... the battery life is fantastic at 95 hours for two AA's. it's wonderfully slim and sexy, stylish and elegant in all the ways good electronics are. sound quality is great... some other discman's (panasonic), seem to sacrifice sound quality or the volume tops off at a level you cannot hear over the subway roar (not this one, this will break your ears at full volume...break them). it features fantastic antiskip... the thing will put the current song in memory after 10 seconds and stop it from skipping, making skipping virtually impossible (ie: you can hurl it at a homeless person and it will not miss a beat). the ease of switching between songs in mp3 or atrac form is unsurpassed. the id tagging here is perfect, but the big news, and the thing that makes me absolutely enthralled with this device is the jog dial. not to exaggerate, but the jog dial is the greatest invention since the typewriter... and more useful than water or air. it allows you to easily roll your way through hundreds of songs or folders in seconds. it is so simple that i am shocked other companies havent thought of this sooner. in many other players you have to tap a button a hundred times to get to the song you like... doesnt that suck? no one likes tapping!! here you roll, and its much faster and easier and looks cool as hell. what else to say? there are no problems with this discman...its perfect... it looks great, the buttons all make perfect sense in their placement, it works better than any discman i have ever seen or read about.... and if youre looking for the best you cannot do any better (Serisouly, even those more expensive ones out there arent more functional.... sure they look like miniature ufo's...but they dont have no jogdial).enjoy it.

5Great little device
By A Customer
After using this device for several months now, I will make the following quick comments:1) This _IS_ an mp3 player. I was almost deterred by another review that stated the contrary. It plays mp3s quite nicely.2) The atrac format is great. You can fit 24 hours of music (1.28GB of mp3s) onto one CD without losing sound quality. (I did notice a sound quality difference when I accidentally had the program set to AtracPlus.)3) The one negative side to the atrac format is that it can take about five hours to convert/burn a CD (this on a fairly high-end computer). Let it run overnight, and you wake up to a nice new CD.4) The battery performance is amazing. The walkman must have some sort of memory, because I noticed that the atrac CD is not always spinning. This would explain the long-life, as well as the complete absence of skipping. You can juggle the thing and not hear a skip.5) Good jog dial and display, although they could eliminate the CD and folder icons that take up character space when switching folders. If you own lots of CDs, this is a great way to store a lots of music on one disc. I recommend it.

4A great CD player for MP3 files
By Georg W. Koester
This player does what is advertised. I do not enjoy playback of MP3s at 48kbps, but I am satisfied with getting 170 songs at 132kbps at 4 min. avg. song and 700MB CD (their claim) rather than the unbelievable number of 490 per CD. The small print on the back of the package was in blue and very hard to read. Thus, beware a 300 MHz Pentium II is a minimum requirement for the Atrac3Plus compression software. I am not going to list all the other computer requirements, but would encourage you to find those out before buying, if the Atrac3Plus feature is important to you. By the way, that format will only play on the CD players that can read that format, obviously or not so obviously. You are likely going to love this player, if you need one for your car and/or home. It finds mp3 songs fairly fast (faster than my old Rio player) and continues play where you left off unless you hold down the play button. One problem I am having with my model is that the forwarding and rewinding through a track does not work as said in the manual with the mp3s on my CD-RWs, but works fine with my CDs, hmm. One other feature I would love to see to make this player even better is a carrying pouch with beltclip. While it does come with velcro adhesive for play in the car, eventually I usually manage to have the player knocked about accidentally. A carrying case would provide additional protection against damage. Hope this helps.

5Re: complaint about resetting when car is turned off
By AmyStar
All you have to do to retain your settings and have the music start up where you left off when you turned off the car is to keep batteries in the CD player. Apparently the power supplied by the batteries (even though you're not using the batteries to power your CD player while your car is running) is enough to retain the settings, etc. This is probably true of any CD player, not just this particular one.

4Minor niggles aside, this is a very decent product
By K. Chang
This MP3/ATRAC/CD player with car kit was what I needed to play MP3's in my car. I keep the player in the glove box and leave the "remote" outside to swap songs. It's cheaper than buying a MP3 head unit for the car.

The first (and so far, only) MP3 CD burned with Musicmatch Jukebox worked great. I have the stock stereo in my car so sound quality is "fine", as I'm not an audiophile. I usually listen to news radio any way. :-D

With a bit of volume adjustment on the CD player and the stereo, the optimum volume was achieved. And with a set of batteries in the player, the settings are saved (and even the last song played) to be easily resumed next time. People who complain about the player losing settings should just keep a set of batteries in the player itself. One pair lasted a very long time, esp. when most of the juice is delivered by the car adaptor when it's being used.

Sony COULD have made it better though... Just a few nits to pick...

1) the "switch song" beep was way too loud, and it's either all on or all off. I wish they had a way to choose 3-4 different volumes.

2) The power adaptor should include a pass-thru so I can still plug in my cellphone adaptor or something. It's not as if this little CD player would draw that much power, right?

3) The cassette adaptor should also tell the CD player to "stop" when the adaptor is no longer being played (like when the stereo was turned off or adaptor ejected) instead of having to use the remote to stop the player.

4) the cassette adaptor could have been quieter, as it does make a bit of creaking sound while in use.

However, these are minor nags when the core functionality is fine, and cheaper than buying a real MP3 head unit for your car, while maintain portability. If you need to play MP3's in your car, consider this MP3/CD player which delivers on all its promises, and comes with features such as bass boost, remote commander, and more.

4It's an OK toy, but not for the serious player.
By J. A AMIN
This an ok chess set but not worth 29.99. Like the lord of the rings chess set it's really more of a toy or furniture. Its poorly painted and really the choice of characters makes little sense. If you love super heroes this is the chess set for you. If you're a serious chess player this may not be for you.

422" Weber Wok
By Jeff
This is a decent Wok by Weber that is no longer made in the 22" version. Works fairly well. If you call Weber customer service direct, they do still sell the 18.5" version for now. This wok could be had new about a year ago for about 50 bucks. This seller is insane asking 500.00. For that price, you could go buy a 22" Weber Smokey Mountain and have 100 bucks left over. This wok is no way a collectors piece and may be worth about 50 bucks as it is. Don't waste your money. Can't believe this person is serious, but April Fools Day IS around the corner!

5Great Fry Pan
By Louise
I received this as a Christmas gift and absolutely love it. It has a large cooking area. The skillet is 11 x 2 inches and has 7 layers of aluminum alloys.Everything browns and cooks evenly. There are no hot spots. Foods can be sauted in the skillet and then finished in the oven or broiler up to 600 degrees F.Unlike most other skillets, this pan has a wide bottom area. The skillet is 11 inches, the bottom which actually comes in contact with the heat is about 10 1/2 inches. I compared this skillet to others and, although they are 11 or 12 inches across, only 9 inches actually comes in contact with the heat source because they have slopping sides. The sides of the Viking skillet are almost straight.Like all Viking, this skillet needs to be cleaned with Bar Keeper's Friend and then rinsed with soap and water to maintain it's brand new look.It is advisable to first season Viking cookware by first washing it and then placing a tablespoon of oil in the pan and heating it for a minute or two and then washing it again. This cookware makes me want to cook more. It is a very high quality pan that should last.If you want quality pans that will last a lifetime, Viking is for you.

4nice, above average construction and feel
By emanuel
I've snagged this Used-Like New for $80, and I'm happy with the choice. I wanted a stainless steel pan for searing, and came across this deal and jumped on it. This is my first stainless pan, so I can't compare it with others. the aluminum layering makes it lighter than I expected, but it weights a hefty 4+ pounds. The handle comes high, is made of polished steel and stays cool even on high temp cooking. The pan cooking area feels light for its size and thickness, due to the aluminum, like I mentioned. It gets searingly hot quick, and I was impressed with the sizzle it makes. It's stupid maybe, but the sizzle is sharp, uniform under the whole beef, with many sharp, distinct pops ( I was aware of it immediately, that's why I mention it) It sticks less than some low end nonstick coated pans and cleans up easily. The rough part of the dish sponge seems to leave fine scratch marks easily at cleaning, but that might be the norm with all steel.
