Sigma EX DG 62mm Wide Multi-Coated Circular Polarizer Filter Product Description:

  • Remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces
  • Improve color saturation, clarity and contrast
  • Provides protection for your lens while shooting
  • Designed especially to benefit wide angle lenses and avoid vignetting
  • Treated with a multi-layer coating process to optimize protection

Product Description

Designed for use with autofocus and multifocus SLR cameras, the Sigma 62mm circular polarizing filter cuts the glare from water and nonmetallic surfaces, letting you enjoy crisper, clearer images. A circular polarizer is intended to improve color saturation and contrast, performing such tasks as darkening the sky in color photography without affecting the color balance. The filter's multilayer coating, meanwhile, optimizes protection for the lens while further reducing reflection. The filter--which is designed to especially benefit wide-angle lenses without vignetting--fits lenses with 62mm filter threads. Note that the polarizing filter does not have a thread on the front filter ring.

5Great filter
By Fred Bush
The filter is crystal clear and works perfectly. I would put this against any of my B&W filters any day. It's funny, I ordered this as I needed a 72MM pol filter in a rush and I couldn't find a B&W 72MM in stock at that time. I was going to "settle" for this until I could get a B&W to replace the sigma filter. I have since purchased three other sigma filters and love them all.Great filter at a good price.

5Perfect for the Sigma 10-20mm
By James G. Riley
Purchased this filter to go on my Sigma 10-20mm wide-angle Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras and it works perfectly. This filter was designed with this lens in mind or at least it would appear that way. Vignetting is minimal. Great unit.

5As Advertised
By Jeff Czaja
Well I bought this polarizing filter just to have it for sunny exposure days.Seems to me worth the money. No complaints. Well built, quality glass.I don't remember if I read the review for this one stating that you could not use a lens cap with it. If so that is false. There is enough of a lip on the filter to clip the standard cap to it. No need to get another cap.Worth the $

Bogen - Manfrotto QTVR Panoramic Rotation Head Product Description:

Product Description

The 300N panoramic rotation unit allows the photographer to take sequential constant-angle shots around a single axis, an essential part of achieving accurate and easy-to-stitch panoramic compositions. In principle this new head works like the previous one (code 3414), but in reality we have made three changes: 1) THE SAFETY CABLE FOR SCREW KNOB "F" ...Safety cable to prevent it from being separated from the head and getting lost. 2) THE SECONDARY LOCKING KNOB "W" ...The 300N also comes complete with a secondary locking screw which stops unwanted or accidental rotation of the head when heavy or off-center equipment makes it less balanced or when the head is used for non-horizontal rotation. 3) THE NEW CHOICE OF ANGLE SHOTS... As you know the type of lens used determines the shooting angle and consequently the number of rotations. Comparing to the previous version we delete the 18° angle position (20 pictures) and replaces it with a 5° angle position ( 72 pictures). The unit weighs 1.1 lbs. It is 2.4" high, and has a maximum load capacity of 31 lbs. The camera can be mounted directly to the head by using optional item #3054, for 1/4"-20 mount), or on a conventional head which is in turn mounted on the Panoramic Head. This item has a 3/8"-16 male mounting screw on top and a 3/8"-16 female mount on the bottom.

5Solid, well-made Panoramic Head
By Warren Harris
I read a lot of reviews and checked specs on several products before I settled on this particular Panoramic head. Since I own quite a few Manfrotto products, it was not a difficult decision, really. It's solid, easy to use and has a logical layout. Makes creating panoramic shots very easy. You do need to determine the constraints of your Panoramic Software before starting though. I found my software will not knit together images shot with a 12mm Ultra-Wide angle lens. It works great with a 24mm, though.

4Does all I wanted it to do, is solid with precise, no hassle adjustments
By Pete S
A couple of weeks ago I was trying to compose a shot using a run of the mill tripod with friction locked adjustments for side to side and vertical positioning. I was using a Canon 70-200 f2.8 with a 2x multiplier and a Rebel XTi. The object was small and rectangular and I wanted the sides and top of the photo to exactly align with the sides, top and bottom. Every attempt to rotate the lense in it's collar, or use the tripod's elevation clamp to set the top and bottom of the object resulted in overshoots or undershoots. Finally I gave up in frustration.I envisioned some WWII artilleryman madly cranking his gun into position using hand wheels for traverse and elevation. That's what I need! Without knowing what to call it, I began looking for a photographic equivalent. Eventually, I found the Bogen-Manfrotto Geared Head and ordered one. It arrived just hours ago and I couldn't be happier! I took that 400mm shot without any trouble composing it. No more pushing, loosening, tightening, cussing. It's pure pleasure, especially if you've gotten as frustrated as I have with friction adjusted tripods. I don't know why anybody would buy a ball head for a tripod when they can buy this instead. So, how does it work? The Bogen-Manfrotto 3275/410 mounts to the tripod plate using a standard 3/8 threaded hole. Once screwed down on the tripod mounting plate, the gear release knobs just behind the fine adjustment knobs allow large adjustments of side to side, up and down, and tilt. The fine adjustment knobs are sensitive enough to easily position the image in the frame without frustrating twisting and pushing of the tripod, lens or camera. Once in position, everything is so tight and solid that you can click the shutter button without a remote release and the picture still comes out great! The quick release mounting plate is a little tricky. It has a lever with a button. To release the plate, pull the lever to the side, then push the button to let the lever go to the end of its full travel. The lever will lock into position and the plate will lift right off. When you go to remount the plate, just push down. It trips the lock on the release lever and it snaps into the the clamped position. The mounting plate comes with both 1/4 and 3/8 studs to use either for the lens/camera or more equipment. A plastic/rubber insert prevents the studs from falling out, but allows the user to remove the stud they don't want to use. The studs have a slot large enough for a large coin or deadbolt house key, but are also knurled. I found finger tight was good enough for my initial trials. So, there you have it. I'm grinning from ear to ear. AND, it was dirt cheap compared to some ball heads I've seen. You could buy this gear head, wear it out, and buy another for the price of some ball heads, and never have to deal with friction clamps ever again. Why not 5 stars instead of 4? The gear release knobs have strong springs, and on my tripod head, one of them managed to catch my finger between it and the tripod head. This means I have a clearance problem between the lower gear knobs and my tripod head which limits the rotation to 350 degrees or so without tilting the head forward a little. If the base of the Bogen-Manfrotto 3275/410 were a 1/2 inch taller, I wouldn't have the clearance issue. The finish on the underside of the mounting plate looks a little crude, and gears need grease, I guess, and it gets on your hands. I would have given it four and a half stars, but Amazon's select list only allows 4 or 5, not something in between. But it works like a champ! Buy it! Just keep a rag handy for wiping your hands.

4Stout and Precise
By gadgetmaster
Large and sturdy, but consequently heavy. May make your tripod too long for its case. Great for exact framing of stationary subjects. Is quickly adjustable once you learn which knob to turn. Use this and your long telephoto will never flop over and whack into a tripod leg again.

4Precise control for panorama shots
By Jon H. Thompson
I bought the Manfrotto Compact Geared Head to help in leveling my camera for shooting 360 stitched panorama shots. It works well. These shots require a perfectly level setup, which is aided by the bubble level that is part of the head. Adjustments are a pleasure as you can "dial in" the exact setting, without having to worry about locking mechanisms. I use the quick release because I often shoot the same setup once with a digital camera and again with a film camera. I gave it 4 stars because of the quick release, which is not intuitive. More than once I have come away with a bloody knuckle. Still, there is no satisfaction like knowing you have the best tool for the job, and the Manfrotto Compact Geared Head is it.

5Outstanding, despite the weight and comparative slowness
By Robert Jueneman
I have the Manfrotto 3263 deluxe geared tripod head; the Wimberley tripod head version 2; the Mongoose M 2.3; a couple of relatively high-end ball heads, the Novoflex Classic Ball 5, and the Gitzo G1576M; the Manfrotto 128RC video fluid head, and the Manfrotto 303SPH panorama head. Each of these are mounted on Manfrotto 394 quick release tripod plates to provide easy interchangeability of the heads across four different tripods, ranging from the very heavy and solid Gitzo G528 with a geared column, to the suitcase-compatible Gitzo G1258LVL. In addition, I have several smaller ball heads, including the venerable Leitz tall ball head equipped with a Novoflex Q-mount (great when used with Leitz tabletop tripod, as a chest pod), a Gitzo G1177M (good for use on a monopod), and an ultra-small Manfrotto 482, mounted on a Manfrotto 243 window clamp. All of these heads are equipped with Kirk Enterprises, Wimberley, or Novoflex Arca-Swiss style quick release clamps that are compatible with the Arca-Swiss mounting system, or else they include such a mounting system built-in.Cameras and lens used include the Canon 30D, 5D, 5D Mk II (each with a battery pack), 1D Mk III, and 1D Mk IV. Lenses range from a 15 mm fisheye up through a 600mm f/4 non-IS, sometimes used with a 1.4X or 2.0X teleconverter, or even both teleconverters, providing the equivalent of a 2688mm f/11 lens on the APS-C 30D! Each of the cameras is equipped with a Really Right Stuff L-bracket, so I can easily switch from a horizontal to a vertical shot, without having to adjust the tripod head or recompose. Each of these nine different tripod heads has their own strengths and weaknesses. I typically use the Wimberley with the 600mm and the 1D Mk IV, especially if I am photographing a moving subject, because it balances so beautifully and handles very rapidly. If I'm photographing birds, or balloons at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, with a second camera/lens, I generally mount the 300 F/2.8 or my 100-400 on the Mongoose M 2.3 for use with the 1D Mk III. And If I'm taking video shots, I would generally mount the 5D Mk II with a 28-300 or 100-400 on the Manfrotto 128RC video head, to allow smooth panning. At my age, and with my increasingly arthritic knees and hips, I'm not too likely to take many pictures more than a few hundred feet from my car. But if I did, and didn't want to carry anything more than my 24-105, or the awesome 70-300 DO, I would probably opt for the Leitz ball head and tabletop tripod, pressed up against my chest, or a tree, or a rock.Although ball heads have their place, especially if you are traveling and can only carry one, I generally find them quite exasperating to use, primarily because you cannot adjust the vertical without the risk of losing the tilt adjustment, and especially when you are using a big, top-heavy lens. But when I am photographing a still life subject, whether it be an impromptu panorama of the Sangre de Christo mountains at sunrise, or a coin or other small object with a 100mm macro or 180mm macro, or an ultra closeup with the 65mm MP-E, then I invariably reach for the heaviest tripod and tripod head in my arsenal, the Gitzo G528, perhaps with a Bogen side arm, plus the Manfrotto 3263, which is fully capable of holding even the 1D Mk IV and the monster 600mm. And once you crank the lens around to where you want it, it stays there, period -- it doesn't ever sag. And unlike the other heads (except for the ball heads), it has a very convenient adjustment for tilt, and that also stays put.In summary, each of these heads has their place, and I wouldn't get rid of any of them (except perhaps the Gitzo G1576M). I wouldn't suggest putting a 7 pound tripod head on a flimsy, light-weight tripod, nor would I want to carry it very far. But if you need something that is absolutely rock solid, and very easy (if somewhat slow) to adjust, the Manfrotta 3263 is the absolute king of them all.

5Heavy Duty and Precision
By Richard H. Wood
Per the Manfrotto web page this is Manfrottos heaviest duty photo tripod.I bought mine from a used listing on Amazon so saved substantially on the cost. The version received was silver finish rather than the listed black but I prefer the silver anyway.Construction is precision such as there is no noticeable slop in the geared center column when raised whether the lock is tightened down or not. No visible or feelable slop in the leg hinges either. All in all an impressive tripod but heavy enough so it is not what I would call a readily portable unit.

5The Best Tripod
By steveofoto1
...if you're an architectural or landscape photographer or if you have particularly heavy equipment. If feels like you could park a Humvee on it when you have the camera mounted. It's steady as a rock. I'm an architectural photographer who needs to work with all parts of the camera level: tripod, head, and camera. The base level adjustments allow you to level the legs from the base (at camera level) which makes getting the legs level fast and easy. You can also raise it to a tad over 8 feet (extensions purchased separately can take it even higher). I love the geared center column because it allows for micro height adjustments and is also dead on steady when tightened down. Negatives: I haven't quite mastered on how to securely tighten the smallest leg extensions. They want to slip if they're not extended all the way. Secondly, weight. This is not a tripod that you'll want to haul miles along a trail for landscape photography unless you have a horse or an assistant with a strong back.

5Manfrotto 3251B Tripod
By Allan R. Soucy
More than capable of supporting my RB67 Pro SD w/ 500mm lens, a 400 geared head and a few accessories. Very stable with a "pleasure to use" leg system. Excellent quality and finish. If you don't mind the weight of this unit, especially getting to a field location, this is a must have.

4Heavy pro tripod great for studio and astronomy photography
By N. D. Graham
I bought a used copy of the 3251 on eBay for $150. When it arrived, one of the legs did not function. Fortunately, I was able to dismantle it and free up the part that had jammed. A little lubricant and it was working again as good as new. I like this tripod for taking indoor studio portraits and outdoor shots of the moon with a 1000mm equivalent lens that has to be rock steady for clear photos yet tall and maneuverable enough to follow the moon trajectory between shots. As the other posts here suggest, this is a heavy beast that you can't really take into the field unless you can drive in. In short this is the best large tripod I will ever have.
