Great Stand!

This is a well constructed stand that articulates to also act as a boom stand. Very stable, high quality materials used throughout. The sand bag is a nice edition, though I perfer to use water bottles for counterweights where possible.

Sexy Quality

There is just something about pulling a Manfrotto product out of the box... Exquisite quality and feel every time. If you've heard that the cheaper stands are just as good, you've heard wrong. They can work, but imho, are not worth the savings. The last cheap stand I used nearly cost me a flash unit when it collapsed at the most unnecessary of times. Think of a good stand as an insurance policy... that is sexy... and will make you smile instead of fret while you shoot.The stand works wonderfully in every way advertised, and even the counter-weight bag is high quality with a handle and all.

Wow...I wish all my stands were this good

Yes, maybe a bit pricey, but this is the best stand in my bag. You can use it as a standard light stand or as a boom. Made of excellent materials, and extremely sturdy. This stand is not falling over unless you are booming a lead truck.

3181 bogen sticks tripod

this tripod is a great tripod I have used it for over 6 years with a bogen 301 fluid head. It doesnt travel very well , because it doesnt collapse down to smaller than say 3 ft. so if you need it on a plane be sure to have a hard case. Ask Delta how many times they have purchases one for me. however and the feet that "dont come on it" are just rubber boots, so you will need feet if your not wanting the wabble of rubber bottoms, you can take off the rubber bottoms that are covers for the dual spikes which are great if you are in grass. But real life says you grab and go. which for me i dont want to polish off the dirt and such off the spikes. I put on flat feet that are more oblong and round and this is much better for my event weddings that we go inside and out side frequently.If you get the not included spreader that goes between the leggs it is easier to go up and down with a big camera on it.

Great features, short battery life

I've owned this unit for three weeks and used it during a one week holiday. So far it has worked without problems. It has performed as described on the Amazon web site and also on the Smartdisk web site. I can view RAW files from my Canon 10D and I have no problems with AVI files created with my Canon G2. I've basically used it for downloading JPEGs and AVIs from a Lexar Professional 512MB Compact Flash card and have no problems to report.

Only minor disappointment is that the time between recharging the battery is short. Now this is understandable as the battery is physically small and the Flashtrax does use a laptop harddrive so this is to be expected. This would normally only be a problem to someone who expects to be far from an AC powersource for several days and expects to take a lot of pictures within a short time period. An extra battery or two could be useful for those needing extended use. My unit's power supply works on 110V and 220V, so I should be able to charge it just about anywhere as long as I have the correct plug converter.

A device that meets specifications

This product has a very compact and ergonomic design. It came with a 5-volt converter, a USB cable, a remote control (don't seem to be useful), a video cable (so that you can view the image on TV), and a nice little carry case.

Menu nevigation is intuitive and does not require a whole lot of handbook reading.

I used a Sandisk Ultra II 256MB to do a test. It can download 22 fully-filled cards (with minimal use of the LCD screen) before the device finally running out of power and unable to download anymore.

When the battery level is high, the average download time is a little more than 3 minutes. However, when the level is below the indicated 60%, the download time is significantly longer. When the battery reach 60% or 0%, a warning message will appear on the screen. You can ignore and continue your download, or recharge the battery immediately. Even with 0%, you may have a chance to download one or more flash card.

The battery indicator is almost useless. It only shows 100%, 60% or 0%.

You do not need to turn on the device in order to download. Just stick the flash card in, and press the button. This can be a good feature if you are busy in the field.

The LCD screen, although big, does not have a very high resolution. Retrieving images is somewhat slow, especially it takes 3 seconds to view a RAW images.

The device does generate some heat while being used intensively. But it in no way can damage the LCD screen.

I never test its MP3 function.

Great Device, no battery life though

This device is great. It does everything I wanted it to do, plus more. Displays my high resolution pictures, including JPEGs embedded in RAW files. It does MP3 files, but I don't use or listen to them. Nice display, great capacity, easy to use. Watch pictures on the TV too. Only one problem, battery life. There really is none. Also the parasitic draw/loss when the unit is off weill drain the batteries completely in about two weeks of non-use. The solution, buy an extra battery and get the car charger. Other then that, it's great!!!!

Camera and Notebook backpack

This is a nice backpack with lots of storage space and I even fit my 15.4" HP widescreen notebook although it is very tight and not designed to accomodate that size notebook. I do have a problem with the zippers around the main camera section. They are imbedded in the outer layering of the case and take a bit of work to get them zipped up. I also do not like the front section accessory compartment as it is also a bit tight to get into and the bottom section has another zipper section inside that I cannot even get my hand into. It has an outer setion for carrying other stuff that I really dont need. I would have liked them to instead left that off and allowed the front section to open all the way. I do like the main area storage space and can fit most of my lenses, 580 flash and hood covers fairly easily. When this is loaded with everything, it is pretty heavy but the shoulder & hip straps make it very comfortable. This is a great pack to haul your camera gear on a trip but kinda clumsy to work out of if your in a hurry. It has lots of smaller zipper compartments for lens caps, spare batteries, CF cards, and other small accessories. I have not yet figured a way to attach my manfrotto tripod though it does have strapping for it. Maybe I am not as smart as the bag :) Overall, I am able to fit eveything I need for my camera, lenses & HP notebook into it with a little spare room left over for extra cords, wireless mouse & even a book.
