5Want a perfect lens? Here it is. (At least as far as telezooms go)
By Roger J. Buffington
This lens has only two "faults." First, it is big and heavy--quality construction often yields a heavy lens. Second, once the photographer has seen the results that this lens can produce, there is a likelihood that he or she will be unhappy with the other lenses in the camera bag. Results first: the images are razor sharp with this zoom mounted on my Nikon D70s. I can get shots that I never could get before because this lens is so crisp that subjects taken at a distance nevertheless can be cropped to produce an acceptable close-up image. Subjects taken at more normal distances are breathtakingly sharp--as if shot with an excellent prime lens. This is a fast lens (F/2.8 throughout its entire zoom range). Almost more importantly, this lens has the best "Bokeh" that I have ever experienced in a lens. "Bokeh," to the extent that I understand the concept (it is a Japanese word meaning roughly "unfocused"), is a word describing whether the out-of-focus portion of an image (i.e. a blurred background in a photo in which only the subject is in focus) has a pleasing look to it. This lens produces wonderful, creamy Bokeh. The sharpness and Bokeh, combined with the excellent bright color rendition of this lens, makes this one a true classic.I have occasionally experienced minor ghosting on this lens when shooting into a very bright subject, i.e. the sun reflecting off of the ocean. This is a normal shortfall of a zoom lens comprised of a multitude of elements, and I have sometimes experienced this. But such occasions are rare. The autofocusing action of this lens is very good. Even birds at very long distances usually produce a quick, snappy autofocus lock on my Nikon D70s. Very seldom does it "hunt" for an AF lock, and these occasions are likely due to operator error rather than the lens. This lens also features Vibration Reduction (VR) which enables it to produce acceptable images below what an F/2.8 lens would otherwise be suitable for. The VR really works, too, although it is by no means a panacea for dim lighting. This is one of Nikon's professional lenses, and the quality of construction is excellent. The critical mount is metal, and the entire lens is built like a tank. The lens comes with a nice squeeze-style lens cap, and a very good lens hood that can be easily reversed for storage. The reader can see that I am extremely enamored with this lens. The reason is that, notwithstanding its bulk and weight, this lens produces the best nature shots that I have ever managed to take, by far.

5Already a Legend!
By Robert Brody
Yes, this lens is already legend, and no, it's not just a bunch of people trying to justify spending a whole lot of cash on a lens. Make no mistake, this lens is BIG and expensive. It's not fitting into your travel bag nor is it at home at a friend's party. For that bring the 18-70mm, 28-200G or just bring a cheaper P&S type camera in case you spill beer on it!The 70-200 VR is a pro level lens that gets almost everything right. It's size is the byproduct of an optical design that really makes few, if any compromises. This lens is SHARP...as sharp as my 50mm prime and sharper wide open that you might believe or expect. On a D70 the focus is lightening fast and quite exact. Color rendition is the best I've seen. I do much less post processing when this baby is on the D70.On the problematic side, this lens is BIG. It's heavy and in the way, though reasonably easy to grasp. I added a Harbortronics portrait grip and the handling/balance is improved. It needs a big bag and focuses down to a bit under 5 feet. While it's a fantastic portrait lens, you need room to get the most out of it. My first shots with this lens put my more experienced lenses to shame. The bokeh, or quality of out-of-focus areas were creamy and pleasing. Subjects had a 3D quality to them. The VR system is exactly what you'd expect. I sat on my couch, framed the text on my DVD player about 8 feet away and shot at F/2.8 ISO 200 for a 1/2 second exposure. At 200mm (300mm on the D70) the image was sharp. Without VR I got a big blur. The real question is: Do you need a 1700 dollar lens?Answer: Only if you want it. The quality is all there at a level that has people talking about this lens like it's magic. I have friends who shoot pro with Canon and Nikon. Even the Canon users say the 70-200VR is the best of it's kind. Sell a kidney and buy one!

5Expose like a pro!
By Tom Schwab
I have used this lens for over 6 months now and have over 1k shots through it. It is as fantastic as others note herein. The 2.8 through the focus range is really great. Superb. The VR function is really a neat trick. It is super fun to play with. The drawbacks are size and weight. After a 1/2 hour of shooting, your arms will get tired. Remember to be careful and hold the lens and not the camera. This lens is definately heavy enough to bend/warp the camera body.Jan 07 updateThis lens still gets a lot of action and I am still very happy. I have been using it for some portrait work with the VR turned off and it seems to produce some very high quality images with nice bokeh. I used it at a large wedding and it allowed me to get a variety of shots that would have ordinarily required lens changes. The 70 to 200 is a very nice range to get some very nice shots. A really right stuff modified foot (lcf-10? I think) is also useful. Have fun.

5Excellent combination!
By Vince
I love this keyboard and mouse combination. I bought my 1st one about 7 years ago. I think it was $50 at that time and I still use it daily.Pretty basic keyboard and I love the cordless mouse. The batteries last a long time, probably 3-4 months for me and since I use rechargeable batteries for everything in my house the costs are almost nothing.I'm looking at them today because I'm thinking of getting a 10-pack to give away as gifts.

5Unbeleivably detailed...McFarlane does it again!
By Michael Pappalardo
This is by far the best representation of the Alien Queen that I have ever seen outside of the films. The queen is absolutely gorgeous...as gorgeous as a hideous, grotesque monster could ever possibly be!

Completely faithful to the movies, the Queen is rich in detail. She has multiple points of articulation, mainly in the arms and the legs. The legs, which are ball joints, can be moved easily, but initially they may be a little stiff. Her main set of arms are ball joints that can be positioned in a few different ways. Her secondary set of arms are ball-socket joints which can be moved easily, but almost too easily...they will fall out of the socket if you move them too much.

The queen, as was accurately pointed out by another reviewer, can only really stand in one position: a lunging, sort of hunched over position. The holes on the stand are required to stand her up, since she is so very top heavy. That's the other thing: the Queen is HUGE! Its not a bad thing...the size of the Queen makes it a very impressive figure, but the weight of it lends it to be a bit on the delicate side. The pegs on the bottom of her feet are pretty sturdy, and won't break as easily as some other McFarlane products (the Alien vs. Predator set broke within 20 minutes of being unboxed). The Queen's clear sculpted teeth are great, which is a minor yet very good detail that I appreciate. The 'bendy' tail is positioned while it is in the package, and since it spends such a long time in there the bendy tail takes on a permanent position which really is a negative attribute.

The chest burst victim is interesting. With good detail on the victim herself and the cocoon around her, the chestburster is operated through a small knob in the back of the base. You can rotate the chestburster and push it through and pull it back through at your leisure. The base itself is fairly bland but it is meant to be. The Queen is what really stands out in this set, and as I said before, it is by far the best recreation of the Alien Queen outside of the actual movie puppetry.

The bottomline: This is for Collectors only. The figure is not meant to be played with and should be handled delicately. It is finely detailed with a great paint job and excellent texture. Be forewarned that, as I mentioned earlier, the secondary arms are prone to falling out (taking down the durability a notch). Otherwise, this figure is excellent and I very highly recommend it to collectors. Consider the 5-star 'Fun' rating a general 'Like' rating...because I think this figure is outstanding, and I'm sure you will too.

5It's a Queen. She'll breed. You'll die.
By Jon Meisenbach
This is not really a toy. This is the kind of thing you put on your desk or shelf for the sole reasons of having something cool to look at and for inspiring awe for all those who enter your dwelling. This is inexpensive art at its best. The attention to detail is astounding, which is par for the course whenever you buy something from McFarlane. The durability is an issue for some of the protruding appendages on the Queen's back, but it shouldn't be much of a problem as long as you don't drop her or play with her excessively. That being said, the Queen should only be posed and not played with. Don't buy this for an 8 year old and expect it to survive a week (besides, the Alien movies are all rated R). Definately a buy for fanboys and geeks alike.

5Teeth and The Other Finds Found in Terraforming Space
By TorridlyBoredShopper
In many a future's passed, Aliens toys have been hyped for release, have looked good on paper, and then have been sickening when viewed. This seems to be the poison to many a movie monster, too, because they are prettied up for children to play with, the makers forgetting that the figures aren't some Disney byproduct and are for bigger kids. Normally they have something wrong with the way they look, their faces becoming too cartoonish or their bodies losing the darkness within them, the way they contort, or they simply have some funky action within them that doesn't make sense. Many examples can be included to prove this, too, with the Bull Alien released, the Scorpion Alien, the lovely Guerrilla Alien, and so on.McFarlane Toys seemed to learn from that failing example, though, and they did something nobody else has done. They've focused on things seen and loved by fans, kicking up the excitement with homage to the original and no gimmicks. And this has rebuilt something that seemed to be DOA in times passed.

In this piece, the Queen Alien looks wonderfully adorable. She has the walk of walks that says that she's not too terribly happy, the face that only a drone could love, and a body that is quite simply large.Like the image birthed in Aliens, she looks very much the part of the angry mother. When I first saw it I was impressed by the scale of this beauty, thinking it would be "action figure" sized like the drones that had been released, but it wasn't. The Queen is very much the part, with the size built in just like the movies indicate. That way, when set with the drones, they have a scale that separates the little boys from the fearsome lady.Added to her are also the ten points of movement, with the tail moving well and the head and legs posing, and the coloration that very much fits the part. If only the mouth would have opened and closed, allowing something to be held, it would have been wonderful. Still, it is a LV-426 dreamer's dream nonetheless.

The other piece provided is a blast from the terraforming past, showcasing what the Colonial Marines saw when they looked into the face of birthing. There's the wall and the substance transforming it into the Alien's hive, its color cobwebbed with organic looks and a concrete sheen, and there's also the human body in it with a chest burster sticking out that decorates it like a much-needed ornament on a shadowy Christmas tree. The body looks pretty good, too, with the skin tone looking ghoulism and that plastic form almost seeming to say, "kill me" right before the eyes.It could have had more detail to it, though, looking a little bit better to be perfect. The expression could have been exacted and the eyes done exactly right, contorting it all to the horrifying image that goes past the plastics of toydom. It added in is a nice thing to find, not required but given anyhow, and it helps complete the set despite those tiny objections.

Crowned with a nice little box that shows them both off, it is a keeper both in and out of the packaging and nice to set up. It is also part of a bigger series, too, and all of those toys are well worth picking up. The wonderful Dog Burster from Alien3 is done well, the Warrior Alien is good looking, and the Predator line-up is a nice cap for those gleaming, metallic teeth.Definitely recommended for anyone wanting to learn a little Xenomorphology.

4Great sound.. for others as well
By Ari Oppenheimer
I bought these headphones after being totally dis-satisfied with the Sennheiser MX300 earbuds. These are very uncomfortable and sound too bright in my opinion.

I went out and bought the Sennheiser PMX60's. These were perfect as I cycle and need something that doesn't go on the top of the head.

As sound quailty goes, these things are amazing! Beautiful, strong bass and crisp highs. The volume even goes very high compared to other headphones. Well done Sennheiser!

The reason why I am returning these, is because although they are one of the best sounding headphones I have ever heard, they leak WAY too much sound. Anyone in the same room can here the music that I'm playing quite well. Every word is audible to the outside listener. For me this makes then very unattractive.

I'm sad to part with these as they sound so good, but I need something a bit quiter to the public.

5Simply amazing
By Dmg
These headphones are amazing. The price is extremely low for the quality of these headphones.

They're extremely comfortable; the most comfortable headphones of any style I've ever worn. Being a huge audiophile, I'm picky about my headphones, and these have beautiful clarity. The range is great as well, the highs are perfect. The mids and lows are right on as well. As for breaking them in, the bass will only get better with time, so that's even better.

Sennheiser PMX60s get LOUD! If you have hardware that can push it, these can bring you to ear drum shattering range and still sound crystal clear. The are only two downsides. These are open headphones, so people around you can definetly hear your music as well. But if you're getting open headphones, that's obvious. Also, the cord is kind of short, but it works for me.

The headphones are stylish, light, and very well put together too. All together, their sound quality, range, loudness, style, comfort, durability, design, and construction are all topnotch; not to mention the very low price.

These are great! Pick them up now!

5Great sound quality, lightweight, and under $25...great deal!
By Hey Its That Dude!
I usually buy behind-the-ear headphones to go with my Ipod because I hate the earplug types, even the overpriced Shure types. Most of the time, I'll buy the Philips HS500 or the Sony MDR-42s for good sound and a cheap price. Finally, I paid $10 more for the Sennheiser PMX60 Headphones and I'm glad I did.First things first, these headphones can get loud! Every song on my Mp3 player is louder but, the sound quality is still clear. Another thing I noticed was that these headphones are soo much more lighter than the others listed above. Now, I'm not sure about the durability, but so far, so good. The sound quality of the headphones seems to be a big jump from Sony behind-the-ears. The bass isn't as present on these headphones like they were on the Sonys, but I guess thats the trade-in for clear, clear sound.Overall: May not be suitable for rap music but, sounds great on anything else. 4.5/5

5NO FCC LICENSE REQUIRED
By FOX
FIRST, TO CLEAR UP THE FACTS ON THE LICENSE REQUIRMENT:This radio uses BOTH GMRS AND FRS frequencies. It is perfectly legal for anyone to buy and use this radio on the FRS channels only, and not require a license. Even the OWNER'S MANUAL states that the FCC requires you get a license IF you use the GMRS frequencies. And even THAT is not completely correct, because many of the channels are SHARED by BOTH FRS AND GMRS!On the shared channels, one without a license would only be able to use 1/2 watt instead of 1 watt. This unit happens to use 1 watt on the shared channels, and 1/2 watt on the FRS only channels. Thus, although it would be perfectly legal for anyone to buy and use this particular model on channels 8 - 14 without the FCC requiring you to have a license, channels 1 - 7 are also FRS, and would also be legal to use without a license, you just can not use 1 watt, which this unit does use on channels 1 - 7.However, being a licensed radio technician holding both commercial and ham radio licenses, I can ASSURE you that there is NO WAY anyone listening to you on channels 1 - 7 would EVER be able to tell that you are using 1 watt instead of 1/2 watt! That is IMPOSSIBLE and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The ONLY way would be for someone to TAKE your radio and measure the output power directly, but if they are just listening to you talk on this, even with the most sophisticated technology and equipment, they would never be able to tell if you are using 1 watt or 1/2 watt. Also be assured that no one, including the FCC is going to be driving around the country listening to the millions of kids using these radios, tracking them down, and checking to see if they are using licensed output power or not, especially since we are only talking 1 watt here! A CB radio uses 4 watts! And you don't need a license for that either. Now using channels 15 - 22 are GMRS ONLY frequencies, which means, although no one listening can tell how many watts you are using, no one without a license is supposed to be talking on those channels without a license no matter what output power. However, no one listening can tell if you have a license or not, they don't know who you are, or where you are at, let alone if you have a license or not unless they tracked you down and asked to see it, and not even a police officer has the authority to do that, only the FCC has the authority to do that, and they don't go around doing this, they only go out if there has been a complaint, and that is usually about people running high powered 100 watt or more pirate radio stations. Even then, the first case is a slap on the wrist telling you not to do it anymore. Only repeat offenders get fined for those much bigger violations,no family using this radio, even on the licensed channels without a license, are ever going to have to worry about anything.Every store from Walmart to Sporting Stores sell these radios and millions of American families are using them on the GMRS frequencies without getting a license. In fact, at one time CB radio had a license requirement too. But in the 70s, most didn't bother to get a license for that service either, and the FCC isn't going to find and fine millions of American citizens, so instead, what did they do?They ELIMINATED the license requirment for CB radio! Now NO LICENSE is required for CB radio today, and very soon, the same will be true for GMRS frequencies, just as they recenlty became for the itinerant business band frequencies, because if millions of people don't follow the laws, then the laws change to follow the people. But although at the time of this writing, yes, technically using the GMRS frequencies or one watt power of this particular model without a license is illegal, it is perfectly legal for you to own and use this radio on the FRS channels that operate with a half watt.If you forget which ones are legal to use or not without the license, just look at the display. The channels with the light "walkie talkie" icon are legal for everyone to use, the dark colored icon displays on the channels using 1 watt, which require the license. But again, I assure you, no one listening is going to HEAR or MEASURE a difference between 1 watt and a half watt! Just as if YOU listen to others on these radios, you can't tell who is using 1 watt or a half watt, who is licensed and who is not, and nor would YOU care or go and check other people to see if they are operating legaly or not either. Nor do you have the authority to demand to see anyone's FCC license.-------------------------------NOW ON TO THE REVIEW...I have had and used this set for a few years already, and these radios are GREAT. Being a licensed ham radio operator, I have a set of 2-meter VHF "walkie talkies" that operate on 5 watts and do not have the range and reliability that these 1 watt radios do! I now only use this set, and retired the ham radios, and going to many hamfests (a flea market exclusively with ham radio equipment and computers) many other hams are doing the same thing as I see a lot of these around recently. If you want to know about features, you can download the PDF file of the owner's manual to get that info.About all I can add, is that I have found (and read other people saying the same thing on the internet) is that Motorola FRS radios tend to not pick up or hear other brand FRS radios as well as it's own, and this set even has a feature to insure that even more. I like this, as I don't want to hear other people with the cheap sets, only my friends and family. Since most people won't spend the money for a good set of Motorolas, and instead buy the $15 or $30 set at Walmart, This insures me I don't have to hear as many of those people, let them buy the inferior brands. However, They still tend to hear you, but that is their problem, not yours.Perhaps next time they will do some research BEFORE they go out and purchase something.

great service - awesome company , March 20, 2005Reviewer: M. Melton (norman, ok) - See all my reviewsi first purchased this item and was not initially too unhappy with it. problems with documentation and adjustment.i initially posted a review reflecting my frustrationsI received a call from Dale (President of Rousseau Co.) who managed to track me down through a web search. He was very concerned about my displeasure with the product and wanted to make it right - whatever that took (his words).we spoke for nearly 20 minutes - Dale was very attentive and listened to my complaints. He also provided me with some helpful tips on assembly. Stand works fine now after some guidance. I've never had a CEO call and actually care as much as Dale. he genuinely wanted to make a happy customer out of me. he succeeded in spades.I could not be happier with rousseau and their products. this is definitely a company i would do business with again.please ignore earlier post - written in heat of frustration.matt

Before I bought this product I read the only review on the web and it bombed. I decided to but it anyways becouse of the companies reputation. Anyways it is a very well made stand thank god all the parts were there and not damaged. It took me about a houre to put it together but after you cut all the wood and align it about 3.5 houres. The directions could have been better and more pictures would have been helpful. Also the acc. are very expencive at 119.00 for the fence and 40.00 for the cut stop. Also the caster sould have been a little wider.I was also impresed that the last reviewer got a resonce from the companey thats standing behind your product.

5A solid stand at a great price!
By Jim B.
My first choice for a Miter Saw Stand was the Rousseau 2875XL... the description of the quality of that model, as well as the rave customer reviews, made me itch for that one. But, with only a home basement workshop that I putter around in, I could not justify paying the price of that model. So, I was a little hesitant to go with the Model 2850, because I thought that with its' much lesser cost, the quality might be lacking. After ordering it, and during assembly, I was happy to find that my hesitancy was unwarranted. The fit and finish is first rate... it is a very sturdy, and well-built stand.
