5A perfect fit
By Tim Merritt
I had an older fiber converter from a different manufacturer go bad on a Friday afternoon. Due to past experience with Trendnet products, I chose a pair of these units with one day shipping and received them first thing Saturday morning. After installing them, the link came right up with zero hassle. They have been installed for a couple weeks now and are working well.

5Peace of Mind
By Emilie W. Cross
We have an old 2 story house and therefore need a 3 story ladder. I researched all of the newer ladders after I tried to show the kids how to use the old metal rung and chain ladder that I had which was heavy and tangled and would have been very difficult to deploy in an emergency. I chose the X-IT because of the many reviews that rate it #1 of all the ladders out there. It does NOT require installation. Hook it over the sill and release the velcro strap. No tangles. It's that easy and the ladder in its small yellow carry case is very light. I'm very pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone with a second story.

5Solid functional design. Great customer service.
By George C Huang
After researching a number of fire escape ladders in brick and mortar stores and online, I selected an X-It ladder. I chose it because it seemed light enough and simple enough for my young boys to deploy from their second floor room. After testing the release of the ladder, it was a simple matter to refold the rungs. The videos on the X-It website made it easy to understand how to deploy and refold the ladder. Some of the ladders I researched stated that they were for single-use only; I ruled those out, because it meant that I couldn't test it's operation. Finally, my ladder did not come with a storage bag. I emailed the company through their website and go a response later that NIGHT. They promptly sent me a storage bag.

5Buy this product now!
By Zoe
I just purchased the 3 story X-it escape ladder. I ordered it one afternoon and it arrived by noon the next day. I opened the ladder, figured out how it would fit on my windows and then refolded it and put it back in the bag. I have not practiced yet. The ladder ladder is about 8" x 7.5" x 11" when folded and comes with a bright yellow storage bag. It weighed 8.5 lbs. (Yes I measured it and weighed it for this review.) The instructions are sewn onto the bag so they don't get lost. They are clear and easy to follow. The ladder looks like it is aluminum. The straps that go between the rungs are heavy weight and woven. I'm not sure what material. This product is beautifully designed for function. They also have a bar you can get to permanently install the ladder under a window which you can get from X-it directly. I didn't see it on Amazon and did not get the bar. Before ordering, I spoke with the X-it company owner (and ladder inventor) at some length. He is very knowledgeable and is also involved with the ASTM standard setting. He gave me some important tips: You must practice using the ladder. The best way to do this is to suspend the ladder from a LOW window and practice climbing up from the bottom. Once you are comfortable with this, you can try climbing out the low window. Practice several times. Have your kids practice. Tell your overnight guests where the ladders are and what your fire escape plan is. The ladder should go to within 2 feet of the ground for easy and safe escape. To measure how long a ladder you need, put a rope out your window and and mark the rope when it touches the ground. Then pull the rope inside and measure the length. Buy the next longer ladder. It is OK if the ladder has extra rungs lying on the ground when deployed.I also purchased the child/pet escape bag directly from X-it. I didn't find it on Amazon but I wish they sold it. I tried this up to the point of lowering my dog out the window, which I skipped. The escape bag is 29" wide and 20" high when lying flat on the floor. The closure is a fold over Velcro flap that runs the full length of the bag. The bag has handles that are sewn to the bag completely on both sides and across the bottom. The lowering strap is sewn looped through both handles so it cannot come off and helps keep the bag closed but it did not get in the way when I put my dog in. The instructions are sewn onto the bag. It folds and comes with a storage pouch that is 8" x 2" x 11" when folded and stored. I am confident that the bag will not tip over while being lowered. I put my dog (8 lbs) in the bag, carried it around for about a minute and swung it back and forth. I expected my dog to go crazy, but she didn't. I bought one of these for my son's infant daughter too so I wanted to be sure I felt it would work well. She weighs about 15 lbs now and I think she will fit in the bag fine. I'm glad I got it for her. This bag would not work for a large dog or a large toddler. The company also has a different large pet bag with holes for the dogs legs to go through that is available but not advertised yet (as of 2/22/13). You can order it by contacting the company directly.

5Outstanding ladder to have available
By R. G. Cvik
I have this 2-story model and the 3-story model. I have already installed the mounting plate (optional). I had two different types of escape ladders and returned them both when I got this one. They cost more and were no where near the ease or quality. Don't listen to the first reviewer. This person must be refering to a different product. Key note: You don't have to install the mount. I am going to purchase another one of these for another room!

5Good ladder for older houses
By Donald W. Flenoy
I agree with the second person. I bought one of these then bought a second one by Kidde because Home Depot stop selling the X-IT. I have an old house with deeper windows and the Kidde doesn't work without some modification to the window, which I don't want to do. That's why I did a search for another X-IT which I am about to buy through Amazon. The X-IT was very easy to put up and I prefer to install the bracket below the window.

5I hope my family and I never have to find out how good this ladder REALLY is
By Dennis McGinnis
While we haven't tested it yet, it is evidently a good product. Very lightweight, surprisingly small, apparently well-made, it has several features that speak to thoughtful design. The ladder is packaged in a vivid yellow nylon storage bag that uses Velcro fasteners for closure: easy to find in low light and easy to open in an emergency. The straps that bind the individual rungs together are only guaranteed to last ten years, so the recommended replacement date is printed on the straps themselves. The instructions are clearly written and include such helpful advice as ensuring that doors are closed prior to opening the window from which the ladder will be deployed in order to limit a sudden rush of oxygen that would fuel the fire. There's even a small personal touch: an 8"x10" glossy photograph of the inventor with his family.Although I hope we never have to use it, I'm confident that we'll be able to rely on it for our safety if the worst happens. Unlike other emergency ladders offered on Amazon, this one is reusable, which gives us the opportunity to practice with it.

5Looks good, Installs easiliy, certified CAT6 - Perfect
By Charles Hansel
I was concerned about quality because of the low price and mine was a Fortune 100 customer. Since I had the lead time to replace it if it were junk I ordered these for the job. When they arrived I examined them and they looked pretty much like every other one I had ever purchased at 2 or 3 times the price - so they went into the racks. No problems with the install, no complaints from the techs, compliments from the client and most importantly every line, on every panel passed the tests to be certified CAT6 and that is all it is supposed to do! I have found my panels for the future.

1Not CAT6 complaint
By Daniel Katz-Braunschweig
This product doesn't completely comply with CAT6 requirements up to 250Mhz. After installation, every single one of my lines fails NEXT and PSNEXT tests at >=218Mhz.If you want a product that will stand up to CAT6 specifications, avoid this one.

4Good quality for the price
By Milan Sinadinovic
I am using two of these patch panels for my home network. Installation was smooth after fixing a couple of loose connections due to the slightly less then sturdy construction of the cable assembly on the back of the panel. Once installed, all connections perform at 1Gbps without any problems.

5Save your fingers!!!
By Darrell Caldwell
If you have ever had even the smallest piece of wood kickback from a table saw, you know how scary it was. The Grip Tites were first demonstrated for me at a woodworking show. The demonstrator took a 8' long 2x4 and ran into midway into the saw. Then, in order to exhibit the power of the Grip Tites, he pushed the board sideways into the blade. If the Grip Tites had not been in use, that board would have kicked off the blade and caused major damage. As it was, the board started burning, the blade whined, but no kickback. After two very close encounters with kick back, I decided on the spot I had to have the Grip Tites.

5Great Safe Product
By A Customer
It isn't often I write to brag on a product, but I have the GT 2000 43" System I use on my table saw. I also have two Spare GT 2000 Which I use on by band saw and they really work great! I've tried a number of products, including some homemade ones, but the Grip-Tite is the best I've used. Using the product while ripping makes me feel much more safe and confident and the set-up is really easy and quick. Thanks for a great product!

5Great product, especially for narrow rip cuts on the table saw
By Cary Swoveland
I use the Grip-Tites for various operations with my table saw and band saw, but I mainly use them to rip narrow boards on my table saw. For those operations, I generally proceed as follows:1. Position the fence.2. Crank the blade down below the top of the table.3. Place the material to be cut against the fence, covering the blade.4. Place both Grip-Tites on the fence, with the roller guides resting on the stock, one Grip-Tite on each side of the blade.5. Push down the handle of each Grip-Tite until the roller guide applies the appropriate amount of pressure to the stock.6. Remove the stock.7. Crank up the blade, checking to make sure it does not touch either Grip-Tite.8. Rip the material. The roller guides hold the stock securely against both the table and the fence. I therefore do not use the flexible plastic wings for this operation. I push the material though the blade with either another board that is to be ripped to the same width, or a scrap piece of wood that is no thicker (wider OK) than the stock being cut. Some practice is required to position the Grip-Tites quickly and accurately. However, even when one becomes proficient at that, it still takes some time to position them. For that reason, I do not use them for rips that are wider than about 2". I have an overhead guard for safety, and, for wider rip cuts, have no trouble holding the stock securely against the fence with a push stick.I initially bought two Grip-Tites, but not the steel fence cover or roller guides. The Grip-Tites alone were of limited utility when used on my (aluminum fence-equipped) table saw. Adding the steel fence cover and roller guides has made all the difference.A tiny negative: there is a bit of plastic material rattling around inside each Grip-Tite. I understand this has to do with the way they are manufactured, and is nothing to be concerned about.

5Only one little thing missing
By Miguel Castro
I'm giving this item 5 stars anyway because I don't thing one little detail should ruin a perfect score on such a great backback. I've been using a Kensington Countour carrying case (the leather one in fact) for a while now and it has been the best bag I have ever known. However, as I am a consultant, I just picked up a gig in Manhattan which requires me to walk a bit more than just from a parking lot to a building. While the Countour carrying case is very confortable, it is a larger size bag (there is a smaller one available but not in leather) and it is not light. So this sent me on a quest to find a good backback that's "city-friendly". Indeed the quest did not take too long because I looked at a couple of units in the store then went straight to the Kensington site since I've been a fan of their products. The backpack looked good enough to try out and I thought I could always return it if I didn't like it. I've only had it for a couple of days and it is awesome. As far as confort, it is unmatched (and I've had a couple of others). The size is perfect (I have a 15.5" wide-screen laptop). I'm not sure if it would fit a 17" laptop but those things are IMHO desktop replacements and not fit for carrying out the city. The arrangements of the pockets is excellent and the snug-fit pocket for the computer is superb. Now, you remember the title of this review - what's missing? Though I found snug little pockets for everything I want to carry, it would have been nice to have 1 more for the laptop power supply. Though this is not an item I carry on a daily basis since I keep one at home and one at work, when I travel, it is nice to have it in its own zippered pouch as my other Contour case did. In this one I would have to just through it in the main container area with paperwork and such. I supposed one of the pockets I used for my external mini-drive would have worked so maybe it's just that I personally need one additional pocket. The perfect place would have been a zippered area inside the main container area. Other than that, this thing rocks. The coolest thing is when you open the main container area, the laptop is secured in a tight well-protected sleeve and the rest of the area is quite open so you don't have to stretch the bag out to fiddle with its contents. I look forward to putting this thing through hell and high water in the streets of NY.

4Great backpack with only a few downsides.
By John M. Echeveste
I bought this backpack shortly after getting a Dell Inspiron 9300. The laptop is very large and is a very snug fit. However, I feel safe when i put it in my backpack. There are only a few things about this pack that i dont like. One is that the water bottle holder is not large enough to fit my nalgene bottle, so I've had to get a much smaller bottle. Another is that when i put my backpack on the ground, it often falls forward. It looks as if it was designed to stay upright when a laptop is inside, but when just filled with books it always manages to fall into the aisle. After the last few rainy days, everything inside my bag has stayed perfectly dry. It all seems to be holding together really well, the construction seems solid and sturdy.

5most comfy backpack I ever bought
By Jakub Saufl
I am using it for HP ZD8000 notebook with 17" screen. It is a tight fit. The notebook is about 9 lbs but you can barely feel the backpack on your back. The backpack has plenty of adjustments so you can make it fit just right. I would definitely buy it again.

4Easy-to-use, finishing tool
By Jerry Robison
I do residential construction and was looking for equipment that can shape concrete foundations, piers and slabs. Although I already have a 4.5in angle grinder with a diamond cup, I was searching for something that would leave a smoother, flatter surface and would not put out clouds of harmful annoying dust. The Bosch 1773AK Concrete Surfacing Grinder is well designed and made from quality materials. It requires no skill to use. In fact, its boring. Just set it on top of a foundation wall or slab, apply a little pressure and drag it along at about 1/4in per second. The surface grinder has a dust removal port that mostly eliminates the dust clouds. An adapter (included) brings the diameter up to 1-1/4in and then another one on the vacuum hose (not included) allows connection to the 2-1/2in port on a Ridgid shop vac. Although the Bosch surface grinder functions correctly and does remove dust, I would call it strictly a surfacing tool rather than a grinder. Ironically, the equipment works best on surfaces that are already flat. This expensive, specialized tool leaves a flat, finished surface of exposed aggregate. It is for this specific task and does not replace the angle grinder. If I have to remove chunks, round corners or shape the material down to a somewhat flat surface, I go back to the angle grinder.

4Right tool for the job
By Maureen
I purchased the Bosch surfacing grinder to perform some floor preparation for a tile job. The concrete slab was cracked at one of the induced cracking points. One side of the crack was raised about 1/8 inch higher than the other side. The crack was near the door, and the height difference made it impossible to set the new tile so that the new tile height matched the old tile height, outside the room.I used the Bosch surfacing grinder to level the crack along a 3 foot length of the crack. It work flawlessly. In about 15 minutes, the leveling job was done. The tiles line up perfectly, now. The grinder was used with a shop vac, and there was virtually no dust, until the shop vac filter got plugged. One of the previous reviewers mentioned a problem with the circuit breaker tripping when the grinder is used. I also experienced this problem. It occurred to me that the shop vac was operating on the same circuit as the grinder. The combined current load exceeded the circuit breaker rating. I switched the shop vac to an outlet on a separate breaker, using an extension cord. This fixed the breaker tripping problem. If you have high powered stereo gear, other appliances, or heavy lighting loads on the same breaker as the grinder, the breaker will likely trip. Make sure to put the grinder on its own lightly loaded circuit.Over the years, I have purchased several other Bosch tools from Amazon.com. I find Amazon's service to be good, and I think very highly of Bosch's tools. Bosch's Bulldog hammer drill, router, jig saw, and 1/4 sheet sander all exceeded my expectations for quality, durability, and value. The Bulldog is excellent for broken tile and thin-set removal, by the way. You wouldn't want to tear up flooring for an entire house using this thing. But for removing tiles in a bathroom or bedroom, the Bulldog is a great asset. My only gripe for the concrete surfacing grinder is the price, and the price for alternate grinding wheels. Both seem a bit steep. There aren't that many choices out there, and I think Bosch plays this fact to their advantage. I would buy it again, though, in spite of the price. I dinged the product 1 star for the price. A Bosch 8.5A, 5 inch grinder is about $150. Add $20 for more amperage, and $75 for a grinding wheel and you're up to $245. I think this is the true dollar value for this tool, and I would give 5 stars if the price was in the $250 range.06/13/06 Update: I ended up grinding about 30 linear feet of concrete cracks to achieve a smooth and level surface. The Bosch concrete surfacer performed flawlessly. It easily paid for itself on that one tile job. I also used it to remove old drywall mud from the slab. The residual drywall mud was left over from the initial house construction. The carpet guys just installed carpet pad over it. The tool cleaned the concrete very nicely, thereby leaving a fresh concrete surface for the thinset to adhere to.Make sure you get supplemental dirt bags, rated for concrete and drywall dust, for your Shop Vac. The regular bags catch most, but not all the concrete dust. The regular bags also allow the Shop Vac pleated filter to plug up very quickly. The bags rated for concrete dust work beautifully.

4Works great with Dewalt grinding wheels!
By Charles B. Naumann
This reallly is a great tool. It grinds down concrete with little to no mess. This tool works very well for cleaning paint, thinset, drywall mud and splattered concrete off of slabs. It is also great for smoothing joints or cracks and for making minor slope adjustments in concrete to eliminate standing water. I am amazed at the number of uses I am finding for this tool!I do have a few tips. Dewalt makes a grinding wheel that fits this machine, part number DW4774. It costs about half what the Bosch wheels costs and lasts more than twice as long. It is available at most Lowes (usually only one per store) for about $60. It is slightly smaller in diameter (4.5in vs. 5in) so it does not get as close to the edge of the shroud. You will also have to use a spacer on the grinder shaft towards the end of the DW4774's life (use one clamping nuts that come with the grinder). The tool _must_ be on its own 20A branch circuit. Do not run your vacuum on the same branch circuit! I have had no trouble with breaker tripping, but the tool does peg my current meter at 18.5A.I docked one star mostly due to price. There are a few other minor issues. There needs to be a way to secure the vacuum hose in place other than friction. You don't want the vacuum hose to come off, even for a second! A high-power, low-power switch to reduce current and prevent breaker tripping would be nice. I would love to see a wet/dry version of this tool. I would also like to see a larger version (may have to be 240VAC).

4Best KVM for the Price
By Michael Hall
Great product. Not fancy, it just works. Easy to install and understand. I had it up and running in 10 minutes. Don't forget to purchase as many cables as you need. I found generic 6 ft ones for less $10.00 each.

4Good replacement for ATEN C128
By Rick R.
Used this KVM to replace a failed ATEN C128. The comparable ATEN product was going to be significantly more expensive. Does what it is supposed to do.

5Freedom from the tyranny of the cord!
By R. J. Merzi
Years ago I bought my first cordless tools, one a screwdriver and the other a light. Both wound up on the trash heap because it seemed like they spent more time on the charger than in actual use. How times have changed! First 3, 6, & 9V, then 14, 15, 18, 24V. Wow!... talk about power and convenience. As an old time retired contractor (I'm an active 73 yrs. young) I sometime feel like I should begin a movement to erect a national monument to whomever it was that started this cordless tool thing. Talk about utility and convenience! No more frayed or tangled cords (or worrying about cutting through one accidentally) or finding a close enough electrical outlet. This is real freedom from the tyranny of the cord. Those are the reasons why this Bosch 18V cordless Jig Saw is only the latest to join the arsenal of cordless tools I am accumulating. While admittedly it might be a mite rich for some pocketbooks, once you have one in your hand you discover that the legendary quality of Bosch comes shining through. And if you admire superb tool engineering as I do you will love this tool.My last Bosch jig saw was purchased over 15 years ago and today it still provides the same dependable service as the day I bought it. If I had one complaint about the old one (a minor one) it was that I couldn't always remember where I put the long and thin shafted screw driver that I needed to change out the blade.Well, in the cordless model, Bosch solved this problem in spades. The new blade locking and eject system firmly locks the blade in place and spits out the old blade when you want to do a change out like a ball player ejecting a "chaw."But the convenience doesn't stop there: the balance is excellent with the placement of the battery (more about the battery later) providing just the right amount of ballast to help keep the weight of the saw on the work surface without the operator having to press harder, thereby allowing more control of the cut. When you have to do some jig sawing on a surface that you don't want to mar, Bosch provides an easily slipped on smooth plastic cover for the base plate that lets you glide across the surface leaving nary a trace behind. Not a big deal but certainly beats having to look for some masking tape to put over the base plate to protect a delicate surface. The three-position blade selector, which controls the tilt angle of the blade may not be new, but these are: A built in blower to keep the area ahead of the blade clean and the blade guard for the blade to help prevent you from losing a digit are both conveniences that were lacking on my older corded model. Thanks Bosch! The NiMH battery seems to take forever to run down and when it's completely discharged you're looking at about an hour to recharge. Of course since the battery is NiMH , you can put it on the charger whenever the tool is idle, since unlike the NiCad there is no memory problemAll in all this is a superbly crafted and well engineered tool and even though I have not had it in my possession very long you can rest assured that it will get the same hard (not abused) workout the other saw got and I feel confident it will work just as efficiently and dependably as its corded mate. Nuff said!

5first long run cordless
By Ronald B. Ruiz
Out of all the cordless tools I own this one does the most on a battery. I own the bosch corded jig and have not used it oncesince having this one.

The tool is made tough, the grip and balance is almost perfect. The blade change system is phenominal. If you break a blade just pull the lever and the hot broken blade spits right out on its own!! The put a new blade in just push it in!!!

The 18v jig cuts anything with the right blade and really you can use it most of the day before the battery dies out.

I would NOT recomend replacing your circular saw with it the battery is not that, good but for jig saw work it is the bestand will impress the hardcore professional.

I must correct a previous reviewer however, the battery is not NMH(nickel metal hydride) it is NCAD, which is the standard battery used by all tool companies. He is growsly mistaken and readers should always double check reviewers statements I findmany mis- informations written by novice tool users on the Amazon tool rewiews.

What is cool is that when bosch puts out a battery upgrade it will work on this tool, I just dont know why you would need it.

Top of the line tool. Bosch is releasing a new corded Jig sawthat is just like this one and I will not evan consider it,because once you have this you have no need for the cord!!!!!!!

5Finally retired the Bosch 1 578 1 Jigsaw
By Cooncatbob
I've retired my 25 year old Bosch 1 578 1 jigsaw. This saw has given me excellent service for 25 years, it's only short comings are you need a special srewdriver to change the blade, it doesn't have a cut blower and you have to plug it in. The 52318 addresses all of these. It's a great saw goes anywhere and for me doing pickup work in unfinished house where sometimes the power isn't in that's important. The only thing I didn't like is the funny little wire guard right in front of the blade blocks my veiw of the cut, but a srewdriver popped it right out so everything is fine. Don't know if it will last 25 years but we'll see.

5One of the best 18V drills on the market--TOUGH!
By Pruitt Hall
Currently, I have in my arsenal of cordless drills two 14.4v Makita's, an 18V DeWalt, and this Bosch 'Brute' 18V. I also use (and heartily recommend) cordless impact drivers, but that's the subject of another review. Suffice to say, when one simply opts for one or two drills daily; I go for either the Makita 14.4v (if I've got a ton of things to drill and want the reduced weight) or for all around use, the Bosch. I don't think any manufacturer is offering what Bosch brings to the table on this drill. Notable items (from a professional contractor's perspective) are:

>Unbelievable run time from the batteries. Bosch really pegged it on these batteries. 2.4 amp hours, one of the largest in their class. Only Panasonic has longer amp hours, but have you tried to get parts/service on a Panasonic?

>Thoughtful, well-engineered ergonomics. Bosch is the ONLY manufacturer I know of that includes a clip (similar to a carabiner) on the back of the drill that allows you to clip into a belt hook. Other drills, notably drywall guns have these in their corded models, but only Bosch is including it in their general cordless line. Also, the drill has a very, VERY nice rubber grip set. Unlike DeWalt's, which is a harder rubber (or Makita that doesn't include it for some reason), Bosch's rubber is 'tacky' and gives a good impression that you won't lose your grip. Nice touch: They even apply this 'tacky' rubber to the trigger; that's sweet.

>Warranty. Bosch sure understands the pros needs here. 3 year on the drill; you can elect in those times to either send it in for service if it needs it, and they'll guarantee a 5 day turn-around, or you can swap it for another one. The battery guarantee is, I think, industry leading. For 12 months they'll swap it out, for the next 6 months they'll let you have a battery at 50% discount. Nice touches.

>Case. I guess I'm going to have to face that we're not going to get metal cases from anybody, anymore, but Bosch has one of the best plastic ones I've seen. Ample room for two batteries, the drill, the charger, etc. it also includes a smaller, separate storage case for loose items, and has an area of 'rows' that allow insertion of drivers and accessories (very similar to what Dremel offers in their small cases). Get this: real metal latches, too!

>Torque. Good golly, Miss Molly. This drill is on the cusp of offering impact driver spec's!!!! 500 inch pounds of torque; my old DeWalt 18V was 350; this thing is aptly named 'Brute'! Want a real seat-of-the-pants description of the torque? Put this drill in one hand and pull the trigger; you can feel it move sideways, due to the torque. Not badly, not scary, not unsafe by any stretch. All drills to it to some extent, but the big Bosch is NOTICEABLE in your hands. Very torquey, very strong.

>Impact resistance. I saved the best for last, especially if you're a pro. This Bosch offers UNBELIEVABLE protection from common falls. In fact, Bosch regularly demonstrates the tool falling from 40-45 feet at home stores; I caught one in Salisbury, NC and was blown away. You can even check out Bosch's website (www.boschtools.com) and see an actual movie of it being dropped. I have yet to see ANY other manufacturer have that type faith in their product. Drops happen, it's a fact of life. Nice to see a manufacturer designing tool integrity into the product and not keeping their fingers crossed that it might not happen. Overall, this single feature to me is worth the price of admission to professional-grade Bosch tools.

Cons: With all of that glowing prose, you might think I'm a Bosch rep. I'm not. The drill, in my opinion, DOES have two drawbacks, though they're slight. First of all, it isn't small nor lightweight. You will know you're carring around a big, powerful piece of equipment. Second: Bosch, for some engineering reason I'm sure, keeps the top speed of this drill to 1,300 rpms. That is, overall, a good, generic speed. But occasionally, I DO want an ability to spike up to around 1,700 (or faster). My five year old DeWalt 18V is just SO much faster. This is probably more of a personal opinion that job-site necessity, but I do try to uncover any of the nuances of a tool in my reviews, so I had to bring it to the forefront.

VERY, VERY Highly recommended. One of the best tools I use daily. Will withstand a tremendous amount of abuse and it's got a superlative warranty.

5Powerful, but a bit heavy and large...
By Victor H. Agresti
The first thing I did with my new 18v Bosch drill was to accidentally drop it 6' onto a concrete floor - didn't seem to affect it as it seems to be designed for the occasionally careless user.Review:1. The chuck is an engineering marvel. You can remove and insert a bit, and tighten it, in practically no time at all - with only one hand on the chuck. I.e., hold the tool with your left hand (or left foot!) and unscrew the chuck with your right hand (about a half turn is all it takes). Insert the new bit and tighten the chuck. (You can perform this operation with just one hand; just laying the drill on a flat surface or holding it between your legs.) Other drills have one-handed chucks, but the Bosch drive shaft has no play and no wobble, and works flawlessly. Many keyless drills have dual-ring chucks, the ones that require two hands to work. When the bit slips, those chuck designs are nearly impossible to get REALLY tight. Tight is no problem for this tool. I also own a DeWalt half-inch electric drill that requires you to hold a button down to tighten/loosen the chuck. That works OK, but on this Bosch drill, the drive shaft locks when the motor is off, so that button isn't necessary. It really is ingenious.2. Massive torque. If you're used to a 14.4v, 15.6v or even other 18v models, keep your eye on screws you're driving. This beast keeps driving until the trigger is released. I've snapped screws due to the high torque this tool has, when the clutch setting was on maximum torque. A well-designed quick-attach handle is included - it's only necessary for high-torque applications. It can be set to any point within 360 degrees in a few seconds, and it stays put until you unscrew/release the handle.3. Speed. Low speed is fine, and high speed (1300 rpm) is OK most of the time - but, occasionally, I'd like it to be a tad faster. Of course, Bosch gets more torque through lower RPMs. Besides, for the types of large hole cuts and other things owners would be doing with a tool this powerful, the 1300-rpm maximum does make sense. The trigger's control of speed is flawless and when you release the trigger, the drill stops quickly.4. Battery run-time. These batteries last a long time before needing a recharge, and they recharge is under an hour. I've never run down a battery prior to the other battery finishing its charge cycle - so there's no down time on this score.5. Balance, comfort, and other ergonomics are perfect, at least for me (I have big hands). Very comfortable handle - no sharp places. It's not uncommon for me to dislike tools because of ill-conceived handles, triggers that pinch your finger, sharp corners, too small, etc. This tool feels just right in my hand. It also comes with a quick-detach hook for attaching a strap or hook - nice touch.6. Weight & size. Other than price, the only downside to this tool is, it is about 1/3 heavier and larger than 14.4v or 15.6v drills - e.g., it's too heavy for my wife to use comfortably. (Of course, it's much more powerful, holds half inch bits, battery run-time is better, and it has that ingenious chuck.) In any case, I usually keep two cordless drills handy on jobs: the Brute and a 15.6v Panasonic drill for more delicate/small-hole drilling, for cramped locations where the Brute won't fit, or when working overhead extensively. The other reason for having two tools, in spite of how incredibly easy it is to change bits on the Bosch, is, to avoid having to change bits/drills as often.7. The gears are made of steel. That's important to me because my Porter Cable 14.4v drill stripped its weak nylon gears after a couple of years, long before the batteries wore out. P/C doesn't sell just that $3 gear of course - you had to buy an entire "gear box", as they call it. $60. Heck with that. No more P/C nylon-geared drills for me. (One Brute reviewer said his gears "stripped out, i. e. the motor was turning but not the chuck" - my guess is he had the speed selector set between high and low.)8. Nice plastic case, with a mini-case for bits. Everything fits, and it even has decent metal clasps. Well done.9. Has the best warranty I've seen for such tools (and the battery), but somehow I doubt if I'll ever need it.In summary, if it's not too heavy for you to use comfortably, this is a terrific choice.

5Seek no Further!
By Daniel Groseck
Choosing a new Cordless drill when the 12 year old Makita 9.6v gave up the ghost was a tough decision. How it lasted that long I don't know. Based on the projects at hand, I made the decision to step up to an 18v 1/2 drive drill. I don't use my tools to make a living, but I use them every night. I am currently redoing a boat and renovating my house. I always believe you get what you pay for. I was considering another Makita and went to Home Depot to look at an 18v. I was unimpressed. It seemed cheap compared to my old 9.6v. I did not like that spring loaded button on the top that switches betwen drive and drill. It looked like something that would break or get clogged by sawdust and grit. I also considered the Panasonic 15.6v. I chose the Bosch because of the ratings they got here and by Consumer Reports. I made the right decision. This drill takes everything you throw at it and then some. With this drill, its the little things that make a difference. For example, the charger flashes while charging and stops when finished charging. You can see this across your shop or worksite. Like other manufacturers, Bosch claims their brushes are replaceable. They show you how, and you don't have to take the whole drill apart. The torque adjustment knob is metal, the chuck is solid and easy to adjust one handed. This drill is no lightweight, but I find it more balanced than the 9.6v stick Makita. If you need an 18v drill - seek no further!
