There are better products.

This was my first dive into wireless. I was very disappointed and immediately thought wireless still wasn't ready for primetime. My whole idea was that I wanted 802.11a so that I didn't get any interference from my cordless phones or my neighbors who are close. DON'T EVEN BOTHER WITH 802.11a. Real world distance capabilities in my house were much less than 802.11g on this unit. I used it with a Dlink DWL-AG650 card.

Anyway. A friend at work let me borrow a Netgear WGR614 and it is working much better in my house than this Dlink unit. Zero dead spots using the Netgear on 802.11g with the same DWL-AG650 card. I also haven't experienced any problems in relation to cordless phone interference. The Netgear has better security features anyway.

The Netgear WG511 card had the same performance as the DWL-AG650 card.

Bottom line. There are better units out there.

Good range with 2.4Ghz, and Solid Connection

I am using a DWL-G650 in my laptop and my wife uses an 802.11a based card in her laptop she uses at work mostly. She gets a good connection from within the room of the office, but if she goes very far away from the room she loses her connection. 802.11a is that way for everyone so it isn't just this router. That is the price you pay for faster speeds.802.11g is a happy medium with adequate speeds and good range. I can go anywhere in the house and if I am furthest I can get from the router I still get a good 2Mbps transfer speeds which means no slow down in gaming online and surfing online.The router/AP keeps our connection fairly good. There have been times when we were dropped from the wireless connection, but it came back up in about a minute after that. It happened at completely random times so it might have been something do to with interference or some weird wireless thing. It rarely happens and it fixes itself so everything is fine with me.I'd recommend it to others and advise in changing the default password, SSID, and enable WEP to actually be secure. You'd be suprised that about 75% of people don't secure their wireless connections.

this is a 2 star or less router which will take you a week of screwing around if you havn't read my review. out of the box the DHCP Server within the router will re-lease lan ip's every 9min, 24/7, constantly restarting the lan, which somehow causes all kinds of seemingly unrelated problems throughout your lan if you don't follow these simple steps. when you get the router home, plug it into the wall, cable modem and computer. turn everything on and wait for things to settle down. log onto the web base interface by pointing your web browser to your new router's lan IP of http://192.168.0.1/ (BTW, 192.168.0.1 is not a public IP . . . it's contained within your local network), admin, no password. click the tools tab and firmware button and download the firmware to your desktop. MOST importantly: nOw . . . GeT a BaLlPoInT pEn aNd ReSeT the router _BEFORE_ u go back and update the firmware!! congratulations, you have a smooth running, art state, 5 star router

Haldir's not the selling point

I bought this set for the Haldir figure but after getting it I realise that he's not the reason to buy this set. All the figures are extremely well painted and have action features that work perfectly. Let me talk about each figure first. I'll list each seperately...

Haldir- Let's get him out of the way. I though that he was just a simple repaint with a head swap at first, but Toy Biz did attempt to make this figure a better value. He has a new cape and a completely unique sword. They could have easily given him Elrond's sword but they chose to give him a movie accurate sword. His scabbard is different from Elrond's also. For some reason they gave him the elven archer's bow and helm too though I don't recall him ever having those. And I agree with the other reviewers, the likeness is non-exsistant...

Aragorn- It amazes me what a difference a simple repaint can make. The original Helm's Deep Aragon looked nothing like Viggo Mortison but with a superior paint job, this version almost captures his likeness perfectly. He's even got the bald chin. By far, this is the best Aragorn figure yet...

Gimli- This is an excellent figure. It's basically the exact same Gimli that came with the Uruk-Hai. The only differences is that this one lacks the cape and has a slightly darker paintjob. Also, his ponytail hangs down instead of sticking straight out...

Theodin- I don't have the original to compare it to but this is an amazing figure. The armor looks fantastic and the likeness is dead on. My favorite thing about this figure is the fact that they gave him helmet hair. If you're familiar with armored combat you'll know what I mean...

That leaves Legolas. He's pretty much just a repaint of the Legolas in Rohan Armor figure. The green of his tunic is a much darker shade and the gold pattern on his boots is more vivid. The face has a bit more detail than the original figure so the likeness is slightly better. The arrows are different too. The arrows have the same tips as the arrows that came with the Elven Archer and Haldir...

I give this set 5 stars for educational value becuse the armor is very detailed and authentic to true medievel armor

Durability-wise, these figres are a little fragile. I've accidently broken the hands off several other LOTR figures so I'm betting that these are made with the same brittle wrist joints

The ultimate gift pack

Looking for a pack of awesome LOTR figures to add to your collection? Look no farther, because here it is! This has 4 figures you can get seperately, and one exclusive figure that is ONLY available in THIS SET! I will review each figure separetly:

Legolas: This is just the rohan armour TTT Legolas, but this one has a MUCH better paint job. Believe me I have both. He looks exactly like Orlando Bloom, with a stern warrior face. He comes with his rohan sword, 5 arrows, 2 elvish daggers, and his bow. He does NOT come with his skateboard shield, which is a bit dissapointing seeing the fact that this is the HELMS DEEP gift pack. There are new versions out that have the helms deep legolas sculpt in this pack, but still no shield.Grade:A-

Aragorn: Just helms deep aragorn with a better face paint. He looks a lot like Viggo. His action feature is kinda lame, but looks cool. He comes with his ranger sword and elvish dagger. His chain mail is so cool! Grade: B

Gimli: WOW what an AWESOME Gimli. He comes with 4 axes that are very detailed. 2 throwing, 1 regular, and his huge battle axe is included. He also comes with his helmet, which makes him look like a true dwarf warrior. His action feature is very smooth and cool. Grade: A

Theoden: This figure is alright. His head is WAY too small for his body, and his face doesn't look like the actor. His armour is very cool though, and same with his sword. His action feature is pretty cool too. Grade:C

Haldir: Finally, we get to Haldir. Definetly the best figure in this set. One of my favorite LOTR figures so far. He does not look like he does in the movie, but if u look at him from the side, he kinda looks like it. His armour is awesome and I love the red all over his outfit and his red cloak. He comes with his bow, 4 arrows, and his sword. His sword is very big and awesome! So detailed! His bow shooting action works great too. Grade: A+

Overall a great pack. 5 nice figures for 30 dollars, is a good deal. Plus, its the only way to get Haldir! OVERALL GRADE:A

Great LOTR set!

I got this quick from Amazon! In it includes previously released figures of Helm's Deep Aragorn, King Theoden in Amor, Gimli (from the two pack with a small different paint scheme but DOES NOT include his cape/cloak which must have been an error on Toy Biz's part?), TTT Legolas (a little different), and the exclusive Haldir figure (basically the Elven Archer from the two pack with a new sword, paint schemes, and head sculpt)! This is a great figure set for the people who don't have the other figures and even if you have Gimli and Legolas it still works out! If you have the other and desperately need Haldir I recommend getting the set if you can afford the cheap price! The durable rating. I choose three because the swords and other accessories are hard plastic and can break and the educational value rating I chose was three because there is very little information about the set and none on the characters but there is a nice small story about Helm's Deep with some good pictures of the battle. The joints on the figures were fine. Sometimes Toy Biz's joints on there figures which is mostly the wrist and ankle articulation sticks and cannot be moved. Move the joints VERY CAREFULLY and if this happens put them in the freezer for about 15 minutes to an hour and this sometimes makes the joints move! Even though Gimli's cape isn't included in this set it is a must have especially if you are an action figure collector completeist or a LOTR action figure collector completeist! This set is is a winner!

Oh by the way, make sure you save the Proof of Purchase on the box!

Awesome Hole Saw Set

Great hole saw set at an awesome price. At $60 (9/24/08 price)I got the entire set for the price of 2 hole saws alone! Used it to install venting for a tankless water heater and it cut through the wood and siding with no problem. Nice deep cut; not those cheap, shallow hole saws.

If you can't direct connect your SkyFi - GET THIS!

It was not possible for me to connect my SkyFi directly to an auxiliary input on my vehicle. I got the wireless FM modulator (the one that plugs into the cigarette lighter) and was completely unimpressed with the sound quality. I had lots of static and interference - it sounded like an AM station; not even FM quality. I knew direct connecting the signal to the antenna input would help, so I decided to give this device a try. Well, let me say: WOW! It was well worth the effort; the sound is nearly as good as a CD! I could not be happier.Installation is a bit of work, but well worth it. If you have ever installed a stereo in car, this should be no problem. There are three things you need to do: 1) get is access to where the antenna plugs into the back of the existing stereo 2) find a switched power lead (usually from the back of the cigarette lighter) and 3) locate a good chassis ground.One of my main questions was if this device switched off the external antenna when the SkyFi is powered up. I even called Delphi's tech support and asked this question. Many of the 3rd party FM modulators have a switch that mounts somewhere in your car to disconnect the car's antenna, thus eliminating any interference. I really didn't want to cut a hole somewhere in my dash to mount another switch. The tech support told me it did NOT have anything that switched off the external antenna. While technically this may be true it DOES have some filtering because whenever I turn my SkyFi on, the entire lower half of my FM stations goes to static. So, essentially even if there is a local station near the frequency you select, it should not interfere with the sound quality.So, if you have a SkyFi and are using the wireless modulator (or even if you are using a SkyFi2 with the built in wireless modulator) you are getting lousy sound quality compared to how it COULD sound. It takes a bit of work to install - but it's well worth it - trust me!

Clean and Clear Sound

Overall a great solution to connect xm receivers to the car radio. According to xm the highest quality signal to the head unit is from the tape insert and the fm modulator is a close second. Frankly I prefer the clean installation provided by the fm modulator (i.e. no hanging wires).Pros: If properly wired it will turn your xm receiver (mine is Skyfi 2) on and off with the car stereo. It provides a clear signal to the radio without interference. Provides a really clean installation.Cons: You have to get to the back of your car stereo which in my case required taking apart the dash. If you don't know your vehicle, this is a bit like figuring out a puzzle. It usually requires some tinkering to find the right combination of screws and pressure clips. I found [...] had some good online installation help on the basics of this operation. If in serious doubt, get a professional installer.Tips: ONE - Figure out where you want the xm receiver. Ideally it should be easy to see and use while driving (If you channel surf like me I strongly recommend taking time to figure out the right placement). Make sure it does not interfere with anything else (steering wheel, turn indicators, shift lever, etc.). I personally preferred keeping it located down near the center consol in front of the stick shift. TWO - During installation you need to find a switched power source (i.e. turns on and off with the car). Some cigarette lighters are switched but mine was not. On your car stereo there are two 12 volt leads going in. One is switched and one is not. I found the switched line by using an extra car lamp (turn signal) and two wire leads to create a simple circuit tester. Place one lead to a grounded metal surface and try the other on the wiring harness till you find the (likely red) lead that switches off when you remove the key. One final piece of advice - connect the black ground wire to the same wire harness as the red switched wire (this minimizes the chance of interference).

excellent XM accessory

I bought the Roady2 because it has a built in wireless FM modulator. That works OK if you are in the middle of nowhere. When you get close to a big city, (NYC, Washington D.C., Baltimore, etc.) forget it! You won't find a station without interference.The SA10003 is the solution.Piece of cake to install (if you've ever wired anything on a car). I know, it doesn't provide digital sound, it still sounds great, crystal clear with NO interference.It installs behind the dash (do yourself a favor and run your satellite antenna cord behind the dash as well.) so all you see is 3 wires sticking out of a hole that you drill (choose a location wisely, preferably close to where your receiver is mounted.) In addition to the audio plug, it also has a power plug that supplies the 6 volt power to your portable XM unit. No need for those annoying lighter plugs and cassette adapters.Thinking that such an easy, affordable solution sounded too good to be true, I only bought 1 to try it out. Well, I'm about to buy 5 more.

Great value for a superior product

I have had many cordless phones with varying results. With that experience I can tell you that this Uniden product exceeds any other I have owned. Physically, the phone is very sleek in design and comfort of use. The base unit, with a very nice digital answering system is simple to program using the voice confirmations the system provides. The handset menu functions and soft-keys operate nicely and are also very easily programmed. There is a very nice selection of options for personalizing the phone to your needs. The battery life has been excellent, including a battery strength indicator on the display. In addition, we also added a second handset to this expandable system by merely placing the expansion handset into the base cradle. The only drawback is a minor one in which you must program the second handset manually, not a major task. The expansion handset also provides very nice intercom options, walkie-talkie like features, and is a nice value at $... The system we replaced with the Uniden was much more expensive with fewer options and poor performance. We use a wireless network for internet connections, and the phone system works perfectly without interference or signal loss. We are very pleased with this system and would highly recommend it. Simply put, the very best telephone we've owned.

Great Phone at a Great Price

I have had my Uniden phone now for just under a month. I bought it to replace an IBM phone that started having problems within a few months of purchase. The Uniden phone has been great. Reception is clear as a bell and it has a ton of features that I love, including volume controls on both the handset and the base. It also features 16 different ringer options, and the ability to assign ringers to certain callers (so you'll always know if it's someone you actually want to talk to or not). The digital answering system works wonderfully as well, and is very easy to operate. That feature alone saves me [money] on voice mail from my phone company! I highly recommend this phone to anyone wanting a high quality 2.4 GHz DSS system. UPDATE: I've now had this phone for over a year and I am still very happy with it. I haven't had any problems with the battery yet. I've dropped the receiver from high up at least five times, but this phone just takes a licking and keeps on working great! The only minor complaint I have is that you have to be careful putting the handset back into the base if you have it mounted on a wall...otherwise it tips forward and falls. Still a phone I'd recommend to anyone.

Amazing Phone

I am very picky about my phones, and after much research and experience with this phone, I think it is safe to say that it is a terrific phone. I bought several phones that would suit my multi-handset needs, including a different Uniden model, and returned them shortly after because either the features were lacking, or because the sound quality was poor. However with the DCT 5280, the sound quality is great, as is the range. In addition to this, the features of the phone are outstanding, including distinctive rings, speaker phone built into both the base and handset, and the ability to use the handsets as intercoms or walky-talky style units away from the base (like at the mall) and standard AA size rechargeable batteries, allowing for great flexibility to my needs. This said, it is important to note that the sheer amount of features does make the phone complicated to begin with, so if you are somewhat techno-phobic, perhaps this phone isn't right for you, but otherwise I highly recommend this phone (along with the additional handsets) to anyone who is in the market for a great cordless phone.

Only OK; sound = price paid; no good for a bookshelf

I hate to rain on the parade of the other reviewers, but I bought this system and returned it. I won't buy another without first going to a retail store to listen to it. I strongly recommend you do so before buying this - I've seen it all over town, even stores like Target. If you like it, buy it from Amazon - their price is better (plus no tax) and even though I have to return it, I love Amazon. Also, they shipped it, for free, well before their "estimated" ship date. Prop's to Amazon.

There are 5 basic problems:1) The sound is good, but it doesn't fill the room. It is low-power and will sound "great" only if you position the unit right in front of you.2) It is not clear from the description, but this thing has an automatic door which opens by sliding up. If you want to put this "bookshelf" unit on a bookshelf, you have to allow TWICE its height before the next shelf above - this is a huge amount of wasted space in your bookshelf.3) This unit has a telescoping FM antenna - no provision to connect an external antenna. Again, on a bookshelf, this is useless. You cannot extend it, and if you try to extend it up and forward, it gets in the way of the up-sliding CD door described in 2). Reception was really lousy so I couldn't use it.4) It has a clock on the display, but the display is set at least 1" back behind a clear plastic window, and when the unit is not on, the display is de-powered and you cannot see anything. You cannot see the clock when it is off.5) It has radio presets, but you can only access them sequentially by scrolling forward and backward; this is like almost all boom-boxes and bookshelf units today. The problem is that if you don't set exactly all 12, you still have to scroll through the un-set ones.

Don't expect a bargain - it is exactly worth what it is priced.

Great sound to my ears

I bought this as a birthday present for my husband to take to his office. I set it up at home to see how it sounded, and well, it is staying home now. It's set up in a bedroom, and I think the sound is great. There are four settings to choose from on how you can listen to the music, bass, soft, vocals, and clear. When I have regular rock/top 40 CD's in it, the bass setting is the only one to go with. Classical or jazz music might sound better on a different setting. There is also an equalizer on or off choice, which slightly changes the way it sounds. Their book says that the equalizer on makes music sound more live, although I couldn't really tell. True, those selections are available only with the remote, so you don't want to lose it. I don't mind how the CD player opens upward, that allows the system to be thinner and more attractive in my opinion. I was worried that when I pushed the buttons on the front of it, that the whole unit would slide backwards from the finger pressure, but it is heavy enough to stay put. It is kind of a bummer you can't read the clock when it is dark, but I bought it for music, not to tell time. It has the ability to work as an alarm clock also and can wake you up to your music setting choice. I like that, as I have set it to play music for 5 minutes as a wake up and then it automatically resets itself to do the same thing the following day. You can also set a sleep timer. As for playing CD-R's, mine plays one I made on my computer using a standard Memorex CD-R and the Veritas computer program. I'm not thrilled with the antenna sticking up there, as someone else said, but I was able to easily find 12 stations to program. Reception will undoubtably be different for everyone. Overall, I think it is a sweet machine, it made the old AWAI boombox we were using sound like a cheap radio. I might just buy another one to put in the kitchen.........

good desktop cd player

I think this unit has a nice balance between size and sound for use on a desk. As an audio buff I always check out sound quality. This is a step up from many units you'll find up to about $150. However, this is a 'personal' unit, not meant for room filling sound. Its just very listenable and non-fatiguing. It has a nice sound balance from the bass through the high end. Sound is best with the equalizer turned off - the bass can be heard but its not boomy. The soft setting of the equalizer is nice for background music that won't disturb your concentration. The bass setting is attactive on first listening and ok for room use, but I find it thumpy when sitting at my desk. Ergonomics and subdued appearance are other plusses. There's also an extra input that can be used to hook up to your PC - so you can still hear your MP3s on this unit if you want. The Panasonic five disc changer has better sound but I think its better suited for a bookshelf and use in a small room. But if you're really looking for the best desktop sound and don't mind spending the cash you should check out the better JVC executive systems. This panasonic unit, however, is definitely the best bang for your buck.

Solid product you can depend on.

Before purchasing this unit I searched many sites on line for reviews, and kept finding the same 3 reviews, as if they were copied and spread from site to site because no one else took the time to review this product. So I will now add my thoughts, recently having purchased the Sony ZS-X1 boombox.

I will admit that I hesitated a bit before buying this because of several negative reviews I found. There's a review floating around saying the sound quality is terrible. The person did say that they were using it outside constructing decks or whatever, and admitted it sounded better at lower levels. I think I can understand how this boombox will not rock anyone's world outside, which is actually a difficult task with any portable player, given the ambient noise of the outdoors be it urban or suburbia.

My review is based on this; I am replacing a boombox I had in my kitchen, and I usually play music while doing the dishes (some ambient noise in itself, yet of course in an enclosed environment). I think this Sony unit sounds excellent. The 'megabass' feature truly does add bass that my last TWO units NEVER had... I believe my former units were in the $45-65 price range. This Sony is definitely a bang for the buck device, and I am truly happy with the sound and physical design.

I had no need for a waterproof device, yet my Sony sports Discman always outlasted any other brand due to the anti-shock, rugged construction, so I figured the boombox should also have a long lifespan. Are you paying for a name? Possibly... but it certainly is one I trust.

I confess that I cannot accurately comment on the longevity of this product, since I've only had the unit a few days. However, I just wanted to add a few thoughts to let people know that this device sounds excellent and best of all has a little low end punch to make music lovers of any genre enjoy. I bought the boombox based on Sony's reputation and my previous experiences with their products, and I have no regrets. Remember, it's a portable boombox, not a home theatre system.

Very nice

This stereo is really good if you need to bring it with you a lot. I've had mine for about a year and it still works as good as it did when it came out of the box. The only problem I had was that the antenna broke after the second week of having it, but still get good reception on the radio. It sounds really good, the bass on it is really deep and doesn't distort the sound, even at high volume.

Solid Performer

I purchased this boombox just as a hurricane was threatening (the third of the season) and wanted a decent battery powered radio. The unit was well made and extremely convenient to haul around given the handle configuration. Additionally, the tuner's ability to capture even weak/distant fm radio signals was a great bonus. As always, Sony comes through and although I agree that you do pay a little more for the Sony brand, the quality is always there.
