Lello 4070 Gelato Junior Product Description:

  • Makes frozen treats one quart at a time in about 30 minutes
  • Built-in compressor freezer for continuous use; auto safety shut-off
  • Electronic timer; removable bowl, transparent lid, slim ingredient window
  • Recipe book and ice cream scoop included
  • Measures 11 by 14 by 12-1/4 inches; 1-year limited warranty

Product Description

With a minimum freezing temperature of -4 degrees F, the Simac Gelato Junior takes only about 30 minutes to satisfy your craving for a frozen confection. Plus, the built-in compressor freezer operates continuously, so you can turn out multiple flavors of ice cream while your guests finish their dinner. A 60-minute electronic timer frees you up for other activities, and an automatic safety mechanism sounds a warning beep if the integrated spatula blade gets stuck. A removable 1-quart bowl, transparent lid, and slim ingredient window all simplify operation, and the unit is also useful for crafting frozen drinks and chilled soups. Though not lightweight at 31 pounds, the Gelato Junior is fairly sleek for its class, measuring 11 by 14 by 12-1/4 inches. Simac includes a booklet of tasty ice cream, sorbet, and dessert sauce recipes, as well as an ice cream scoop.

5No more days of planning and prep to make ice cream
By A Customer
Just received and tried out the Gelato (reportedly manufactured by Simac...but the company name on the machine is Lello..don't know why a different name). Results were great! The machine is rather large and heavy, due to the self-contained compressor, but that means you don't have to plan ahead or take up freezer room to prefreeze the bucket. Makes enough ice cream for about four people, although if you need more you can start another batch right away by moving the first batch to another container (or your mouth )and refilling the bucket.

The machine runs quietly and freezes well (albeit I would add 10 minutes to times listed in the included receipt booklet). A timer is included to signal when the "set time" has ellapsed. The timer does not stop the churner or turn off the machine. However, according to the manual the machine will shut off before mechanical damage is done, if the ingredients become too frozen and the churner stops.

For a few dollars more than models requiring prefrozen buckets, you can buy this model and reap the benefits of higher priced models. You may get a larger capacity bucket on some higher priced models, but for home use this machine will put you in the ice-cream maker "big league" with no apparent short comings.

5A step above the rest.
By Jeffrey D. Spahn
I have gone through my share of ice cream makers. I have had the hand crank and electric version of the ice/salt mix and I had the Villaware ice cream maker available here on Amazon, sold it and my old icewater/salt type at a garage sale. None of them compares to the Lello Gelato Junior when it comes to convenience and ease of use. You just dump the ingredients in the little bucket, put the mixer/lid on and go. With other models you have to keep the bucket in the freezer or mess with an icewater/salt combination. Sure it might take some of the fun out of making your ice cream by eliminating the turning of the hand crank, but so does buying store bought ice cream or for that matter store bought butter. The big plus with this model is that you can even dump in the ice cream mix while it is still warm off the stove (you have to cook a custard ice cream base). Just turn on the compressor a few minutes before you begin and it will start chilling the bucket. You might be concerned about the noise this machine makes when running, don't be. It is quieter than a microwave running and by far quieter than almost every diswasher on the market. I would say it is louder than my Bosch dishwasher, but my Bosch is the quietest dishwasher you can get. You're not going to notice the noise from the Lello.A note about their recipie for vanilla ice cream. When it recommends using a vanilla bean, do it. They are very expensive, like $8 a bean, and for good reason. It is the greatest vanilla ice cream you have ever had. The smell of fresh vanilla will forever blow your budget because you won't ever want to use vanilla extract for anything again. Save the rinds of the bean in a small tupperware bowl full of sugar, you can use it for baking or flavored coffee or something.A few little things to note about this machine:1. The opening for adding ingredients is small, m&m's are about the largest thing you can reasonably expect to put down the "chute"2. The timer won't shut off the maker when it expires, just lets you know your ice cream is ready to eat.3. It weights about 30 pounds or so. If you can't lift that amount easily without straining youself, leave it out on a counter somewhere.\4. Unless you are the type of person who likes the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard, don't even think of using a metal utensil in the aluminum bowl, you will cringe like never before. Can you say chewing on tin foil with fillings in your teeth?5. Keep excercising regularly, with this thing you are going to have lots of extra calories to burn.

4Great Gelato maker !!
By Paul J. Yoh
I ordered this unit from Amazon.com when it was offered on a Friday Sale at such an attractive price that I could not let it go. Some reviewers commented that the booklet could come with a better instruction... I agree !! The first time I tried to use the machine the paddle would not turn around because the lid was not closed properly. I was trying to figure out why ? It was because the freezing basket was not placed in properly. After I figured it out then everything else worked great.

The recipes from the included booklet assume certain things like when you buy frozen rasperries, they are the kinds with sugar or syrup. The kind I buy is without sugar added. So the first raspberry ice cream I made was kinda tart as the recipe did NOT call for sugar. Now I know I have to add sugar to the frozen raspberries that I buy !!

The negatives to this unit ? I wish the timer was set so it would shut itself OFF automatically; I went like 10 mins longer than it should and the ice cream was totally frozen in the unit and the paddle was stuck in it. So, you do have to watch your time. This is NOT a set it and forget it type unit !! But what do you expect from an INEXPENSIVE Gelato maker ??

I do enjoy this unit and I made passion fruit sorbet which was out of this world. I used passion fruit concentrate with a little water. I also made lemon sorbetto using fresh lemon juice, organic evaporated cane juice ( it is unrefined sugar) and water. The intense flavor and the creamy texture was just sublime. There is NOTHING like a freshly made sorbetto !!!

Since this is relatively small unit one can bring to trips or other places and make ice cream / sorbetto on site but since this has freezing unit built in, one need to be aware that you have to set this machine horizontal ALL THE TIME and never tip or place it upside down. Even the outside box has an arrow pointing UP so the delivery guy knows it should not turn the box on the side.

So for the price / performance , this unit is just wonderful !! Why 4 stars ? Poor instruction booklet.

4Pleased with this level!
By shopsone
Ships in factory sealed box well packaged. I shopped around I think the quality of this level is perfect for a contractor or serious do-it-yourselfer such as myself. The level, tripod, and grade rod are all good quality. The instruction manual from David White could be a little more detailed. It's a small booklet giving just the basic instructions.

5Stop Shopping Around - This is the One You Want
By Marion McDonald
After having carefully shopped for a 17 inch flat panel display since Christmas, the moment I saw this one I knew it was what I had been looking for. I upgraded to a new computer last week, but as much as I am an HP junkie, I could not buy their second rate flat panel in good conscience. I had originally wanted one with built-in speakers, but when I got a look at the clarity and brightness (500:1 contrast ratio) of this new model, I quickly changed my mind. It is an incredible value for the money, and the rebate currently offered by Sony makes the deal even sweeter. I am convinced that this model is by far the best flat panel in its class and I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone.

5A Review of Sony's 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor
By Cornelius Hays
You'll be shocked when you open the box with your new Sony monitor - there's almost nothing in it. A manual, 2 cables and the display. The instructions for connecting are very brief and to the point. Follow them exactly. If you are using an old monitor, just disconnect the cables from the monitor and use them, rather than the new ones. Saves time. You should be delighted when you turn it on. There seems to be no problems out there waiting for you, at least I couldn't locate any thru the sales clerks. A fine product.

The quality of this monitor is amazing. I purcased the Limited Dark Blue Edition off of Sonystyle.com. The qualiy is simply amazing. It is definetly worth the extra $$$. However I would reccomend the 15 inch version for the typical user.

5Great mix of quality and style
By A Customer
I recently picked up this LCD display because my old moniter was seeing the last of its days. i looked at a lot of displays, and i ended up with this one because it was affordable. i was pleasantly suprised at the quality of this product, and it looks really cool. if you are looking at a new moniter this is most likely the one for you!

5Replaced 17" Princeton CRT
By DDudley
..... This flat panel is plug and play ; disconnected my old 17" Princeton CRT and connected the Sony in about 15 min. The panel is very light and certainly takes up a lot less desk space. I read the 7/24/03 review on cnet.com where the editor writes a goofy analysis ... "The Sony SDM-HS53 attempts to come off as slick and stylish, but it just ends up looking smudged. Its wide bezel--an inch and a half on the sides, an inch on the top and bottom--is made of shiny, black, reflective plastic that seems to serve no purpose other than to show off fingerprints on CNET"; then she writes ... "What the SDM-HS53 lacks in looks, it makes up for in performance". That's why I bought it. This is a new product, it was released by Sony on 2/3/03.

5Great LCD
By A Customer
Simply a great LCD. Very crisp on both graphics and text--even if you scroll slowly you can still read the text. I don't play many high-speed, 3-D games but the ones I do are handled perfectly. The only con so far is that the screen controls are not very intuitive. Takes a bit of work if you need to adjust the screen though I have not really needed to do so because the setup was super-easy plug and play. Also, the Sony 3 year warranty was a strong selling point for me. I know prices are coming down but this is a fairly new product so I like the security that offers. As far as style it looks great sitting on my desk. Very sleek lines and thin profile. I would recommend getting the gray or black trim as the monitor with the white edge seems to make it just a bit harder to read text and it almost seemed that the screen was running off the edge (hard to explain). The dark color makes a nice contrast as well. All in all I think Sony did a great job on this monitor but if you can afford it I would check out the 17" as well. For me this monitor works just fine.***Four months later...Still working well but something I noticed from the start but forgot to mention was that sometimes when the monitor is first turned on there is a slight blurring of the image in the middle of the screen. It is minor and does seem to go away after less than an hour but it is visible. Note that this only happens when the monitor on/off button has been used. If I just let the comp log out by itself the monitor does not have any problems. And about my only complaint is that the screen stand is not adjustable enough. Only vertical motion in the stand, otherwise you have to move the whole monitor. Not a big deal but more mobility would be nice.

1Opened Boxes-Product Tampering??
By JDJ
I received my boxes of test strips in a very short time, but the boxes had been opened and there were dirty fingerprints all over the vials. Also one of the boxes of test strips was expired. Since these are used for the testing of blood sugar levels and are really an item for medical needs I would call this product tampering. I will be contacting the supplier as well as the Texas Attorney General. I will never buy from this supplier again and they have been on Amazon for some time now. I would rather pay a higher price somewhere else than get test strips that are more than likely no good. A waste of money

5One Touch bargain
By Sheri M. Holmes
I can't get my test strips from my pharmacy more often than every 3 months (Medicare). I always run out before I can get more. So I have to purchase them myself between refills, and take a real hit to my limited income. Very good price from this vendor, very fast service. They sent 2 boxes of 50 strips each (not a problem--same code), and they arrived quickly. Will definitely re-order when the time comes.

4A fine, versatile toy...but don't use the fish in water
By Jeff Potter
This is a great toy, like all Legos. The motor seems nicely versatile, usable in as many ways as a kid can think up.I'm writing this review because I note in the Amazon Editorial Review that the reviewer says "...and a fish (that really swims in water!) were just some of the things you can make."Because of this, we used our fish model in water and after a couple tries the motor became waterlogged and quit working. After a day of drying out, it started working again, thankfully.I just got an email from Lego Tech Support verifying that the motor should not be used in water.I had my suspicions because the User Manual has icons showing "no water" whenever they depict the fish but the Editorial Review here said you could. Only now do I realize (upon a second reading) that Amazon's blurb is not an official toy company description but just an Amazon in-house review perhaps. At any rate, don't put the motor in water.Have fun! : )

5Invites creativity
By S. Stephens
My son is 8 years old and received this toy for Christmas last year when he was only 7. I ordered it from the Lego store in Florida as it was not in the stores, yet. He got the product to work as the walking on a tightrope thingy, but he did tell me that he had to modify one of the parts or replace it with a piece from another lego set. This was my first sign of pleasure from the toy because my son began to think out of the box and got it to work.Later, I would enter the house to find my precious artwork removed from the walls and replaced by string on the picture hangers and a new invention that was like a robotic spider. After, he completed the sugestions in the book, he was on to personal inventions with this robotic. The batteries are still operating nearly a year later with no replacement. He has made some of everything and now he thinks he is a master inventor. I'd say that makes this toy worth all 39.99 plus the effort to get the right item brought back from Florida. My son now notices parts from automobiles on the ground and can identify them as the brake shoe, etc. Lego is amazing and for any child that has the interest or tenacity to continue in this creative area, I'd say keep buying sets like these.

5Favorite Christmas Gift!
By C. Smith
This is my son's (age 5+) favorite Christmas gift this year. He plays with it for hours each day. The instructions are easy to follow for a child with patience and good fine motor skills. When he's not creating something from the instruction book, he's making his own "thing-a-mi-jig" and loves hooking the battery pack up to it to see what it will do. As the other reviewer noted, only six step-by-step designs are included in the instruction book. The other designs are suggested by various photos and angles to give the adventurous (me) a real challenge. I would buy it for a gift and I plan to buy other "Inventor" series LEGO products for my son.

5Record & Play is a nice set
By Mark Pontius
I have a ton of LEGOs, including a Mindstorm and a Spybot, so what's different about the Record & Play? The core of this set is the brick with two motors with integrated rotation sensors. Push the red button and push the robot through it's moves (up to 20 seconds). Then hit the green button to play it back. It plays back fairly accurately, although it is a bit jerky (it doesn't play the motors slow, but short bursts of fast). As a bonus, the tail end of the brick has a shaft input that does the same thing as pressing the play button every time the axle turns. This is useful for building something that has the motor block hidden inside, making the buttons hard to reach, or for making the 'bot respond to some stimulus (My next plan is for a passing LEGO train to flip a lever, causing the shaft to turn, which will trigger the playback to lower and then raise the crossing gates). There is an on-off switch on the bottom, and the robot will remember it's programming even when turned off, as well as an auto-shutoff if left alone for 10 minutes to save batteries.Normal play mode runs through the actions once and stops. Hold down the play button for a couple seconds and it switches to mode 2, which repeatedly plays the commands forwards and backwards. Pretty cool. Do it again to get into mode 3, which repeatedly plays the commands forwards. This is very handy too.The 192-page book shows how to build five models: a bug that hops along on two wheels and 2 legs, a dog with 3 wheels, a pen plotter, a 4 legged crab with claws, a standing-up walking robot, and a drummer. Much briefer instruction are shown for a dune buggy, a catamaran walking bug thing, tractor, a grabber, a block thrower, and a card dealer (and probably a few more). The other pieces included in the set are fairly standard, a nice mix between Technic and standard bricks in pleasing tan and greens (lime and forest). The only really new piece is a right angle 1:1 gear box. Two are included in the set.I like the fact that there is no real programming involved, no computer required, and it is very quick to get the bot moving. The kit has LEGO's usual excellent quality throughout.

4Basic Motor Set
By Robert J. Voss
This set is a good beginner's set for those interested in the Lego Mindstorms Robot sets. It is easy to build the sets included and introduces the concepts of gears. It can build many gear configurations found on MIT's Constructopedia Site. A good set to introduce motors and gears. My five year old son is interested in the set, but it is too advanced for many young builders.

5Outstanding Lego
By S. Thomas
I just bought this Lego for my 10 year old son. He loves it. He has already made a few different things such as the robot, the car and what I call the bug. He says that it is the "the coolest and best Lego" he has ever had. I would definitely recommend to ages 8+; even though the box says 7+ in age. It would be a little much for any child under 8.
