5Quality & Protection
By JDP
Primarily shooting in the elements, I need gear that can go the distance and not require me to spend my time waiting for repairs or replacement. Like anyone else, I give other products a serious look before settling in on the one that's going to work for me. I came back to Tamrac. The biggest reason is the same one when I picked up my first Tamrac bag 17 years ago. Quality. After giving this bag a solid workout, its all thumbs up. To be honest, I expected nothing less. The Tamrac 612 Pro System 12 easily accommodates my two Nikon SLRs, five lens, and other accessories. With interior real estate measuring in at 14.5"W x 7"D x 8.5"H its all about space. Weighing in at a little over 5 pounds its not a light weight by any means. The padded swing gate and velcro locking system safely protects all my gear. Unlike some fixed divider systems, I like having the ability to adjust as needed. From top to bottom and side to side, the grey interior is lined with a thick foam for providing the optimum in shock and vibration protection. I found that the slide pocket with red flag feature is great in managing my SDHC cards and batteries. The large zippered, pop off pocket is another nice add on. It easily holds documents, wallets etc. The front drop pocket provides two separated mesh accessory compartments for easy storage of smaller items. The bag's exterior is a big selling point for me. Its made of water repellent nylon material that has gone the distance for me time and time again. It does an outstanding job of keeping my gear safe from dirt and dust as well. The lid fastens with both a sturdy zipper and snap & lock straps. The two side pockets are roomy enough for small accessories and secure via velcro closures. A full length pocket is located on the back that I use for thin manuals, etc. The bag comes in both black and grey colors. The mounted loops for supporting lights or a small tripod is a nice add on. The handle is heavy duty all the way. The stitching is sound. The shoulder strap is nicely done and won't give up without a fight. The piggy back pocket feature easily allows for the bag to be mounted on wheeled luggage. It does come in handy. Unlike some of the stuff I've seen from the competition, the hardware is first rate. The metal D rings and hooks will last a lifetime.A glowing indictment for the overall quality of Tamrac's products is the fact that in 17 years, I've never had to take advantage of their lifetime warranty against defects. Make no doubt about it, you pay for quality. In the long run, its a quality insurance that delivers big dividends in protecting my camera gear. I'm alright with that.

4Good but not great
By C. Kerstann
This is the first camera bag I've purchased in 20 years. My Lowepro was looking shabby and had one broken zipper after two decades of use so I decided to replace it. The current Lowepro line up didn't offer what I was looking for but this Tamrac looked workable. It appears to be well made. I underestimated the size of this bag. A Canon 60D with a 28-105 lens takes up 2/3 of the interior. The two front pockets are designed so that if you open the zippers completely the entire contents will spill out. A short zipper just across the top of each pocket would have been better. The bag is well padded and provides a fair degree of protection from jarring and bumping. The main compartment has a zipper and also is secured by four plastic snap buckles. With the bag completely closed the contents are well protected from rain. The lid has a removable plastic pocket that snaps in place. I can snap out the pocket and bring filters and such with me if I'm moving but don't want to bring the entire bag.I can't really fault this bag in any area but I can't bring myself to really love it either. I don't believe it is as durable as my last bag. Maybe after 6 months it will grow on me.

5camera bag
By Lisa Underhill
I am very happy with my order of a used Pro System 8 camera bag. The description of the bag was that it was in good condition with only some dark spots on the shoulder strap from use. This was exactly true. Also, my order was shipped out very quickly and I received it within a couple of days. Very satisfied.

5USA Quality, plenty of room & great strap!
By P. K. Frary
My first impression of this bag was that it is lightweight with excellent fit and finish: tough high tech fabrics, dense padding and heavy duty stitching. It weighs over a pound less than my Lowenpro Stealth Reporter 200W yet has more room. It is so organized it is almost over designed with a multitude of dividers with protective flaps, an overlying gear cradle (lens bridge) and pockets galore. Yet it is all held together with velcro so you can rearrange the interior to your heart's content. This is a serious bag for working photographers and not a murse for hipsters trying to look cool (they need a leather Ona to match with their funny hat and glasses).THE STRAPThe strap is a pleasure to use: 2" wide nylon webbing, sturdy hardware with a well padded suede leather shoulder pad. I found the suede surprisingly grippy and stable while hanging off one shoulder. The shoulder pad is flexible and conforms to should shape well, distributing weight across shoulder and chest. The strap has 2 loops to attach small accessories, but I use them to hook my sunglasses through.FILL IT UPThis a bag designed to stuff: room for half a dozen small to medium sized lenses and a pro sized camera with zoom attached sitting in the lens bridge (cradle-like area running length wise). Mobile photographers will find it light enough to carry for hours yet roomy enough for a full kit. The box-like design affords maximum cargo space within a stable work platform. The 606 can sit rock steady on the ground, acting like a lens bucket, and would be a challenge to kick over. Plus it makes a great lens change platform while standing.FINAL BLURBThe 606 isn't just a lens bucket. It's riddled with thoughtful design details like a CF card wallet on a leash, ample pockets front, sides and top for your knickknacks and smooth fabric on the back to keep it from tearing up your silk shirt or tux. This is a well designed bag and build to last. Finding a USA made product on Amazon is a rare treat, so kudos to Tamrac for continuing to make products in the USA.

5Really good IR filter, no distortion
By Stephen Kalman
I had been wanting to try Infrared for some time, but always kept putting it off. Finally, I bought a few books and studied for a while, then took the plunge. Let me summarize what I've learned.1. The term Infrared photography has two meanings. One is to gather heat images. The other is to gather reflected IR light. We're talking about the second here. The first takes completely different equipment.2. Make sure your camera can take IR. All modern digital cameras have a filter over the sensor that blocks IR light. Some of them are far more sensitive than others and the ones that are too sensitive make using a filter like this impossible. There's an easy test. Grab your TV remote and set up to take a photo of the business end of it (as if you were going to use it to control your camera) then press any of the remote buttons while taking a photo. If you have live view, you don't even need to make an image. What you're hoping for is to see the IR light from the remote. Ideally, it will look like the light beam you'd get form a very tiny LED that you might buy for a keychain to use at night. More is better (shorter exposure times). If no IR light is present, stop here or use a different camera.3. Now, get this filter in the right size for your lens. In my case, my SLR blocked all IR, but my Canon G12 was fine. I bought the filter adapter for the G12 (which I also use for other filters, such as a polarizer) and I bought this filter.4. It will be hard to compose and frame your images. Use a medium or high F/stop and set your camera to bracket exposures if it has that feature. Pick something far enough away so that you can manually focus on infinity. If you really want to focus closer, get a measuring tape. Either way, manual focus is pretty much required.5. When you take shots, they'll appear in shades of red when you first look at them. If your camera has a setting that lets you see images on its LCD in monochrome, you can use that. Either way, you'll have to convert to Black and White in some editing program.6. I use Photoshop and Nik Software Silver Efex Pro to do my IR editing. You can start with Google's Picassa for free if you're just getting started with photo editing.7. One of the major benefits of IR photography is that the best IR times are mid-day, which is usually the worst time for color images. The opposite is true, too. Great morning or afternoon light won't usually give great IR photos, tho there are notable exceptions. All in all, I'm very happy with IR in general, and with this filter in particular. As with all filters, it makes no sense to put a cheap, distortion-prone filter on an expensive distortion free lens. Tiffen makes quality filters. You can pay more for other brands, but there's no need to do so.

5Yes, this actually works with a DSLR!
By freemachine
This infrared filter works perfectly with a Nikon D7000. I was very worried about spending this much on a filter not knowing if the outcome would be desireable. There is some debate as to whether or not DSLR cameras can process infrared (IR) light due to IR blockers employed on the camera's sensor. Newer cameras, such as the Nikon D7000, are supposed to be increasingly less sensitive to IR than older ones. Some people say that the only way you can take IR photos with a DSLR is to have the camera physically modified (at some cost and risk), while others maintain that all you need is a suitable IR filter. I can verify that using a filter to remove visible light and pass only near-IR wavelenghts to the digital sensor works, as least with my Nikon. The effect is exactly what you would expect, some objects are dark while others appear to glow intensely. Long exposures are required, so there is a softness to the clouds in the sky and leaves on trees from movement. I've always wanted to take IR photos so this filter was well worth the investment, especially since I would never seriously consider gutting a very expensive and brand new camera.

5A Real Review For Tiffen 87-IR
By D. Mitchell
Don't know why this product is linked to reviews of 'Tiffen 58mm Photo Essentials Filter Kit' but I've seen stranger things here. I summarize it is from reviewers misusing the Product Link option. The Review: The #87-IR is a true Infrared filter and is opaque. See my photo example under `Large Images' above (lastly, after all the unrelated other photos). The photo was taken thru a Digital Samsung NX-10 w/Rokkor 20mm/2.8, 8 sec.Tiffen as been in the optic biz nearly forever and this filter carries the same heritage. It is costly because good IR filters are very costly to manufacture. In addition, the treaded-ring is not cheep and will run smooth without locking-up and the glass is of professional photo-optic quality. Hope this is of help to you.F.Y.I. at present, I would not say that the Samsung NX-10 is a good camera for IR photography.
