didn't last

I purchased this from Amazon direct (not a third party on amazon) so I'm confident it was an Infocus lamp versus an equivalent. Paid over $400 for it. It just died after 13 months. With OEM's going as low as about $150... I'm not going to invest in an Infocus one (now selling for less than $400) but still no better warranty than the third party ones (90 days). Its suppose to last 1500-3000 hrs. Calculating a generous number of hours of 10 hours a week (we use it at our church on sundays and fridays for 7 hrs a week)it should last 150 weeks.. not 56 weeks. I checked and this unit (ceiling mounted) did not accumulate a lot of dust neither which can shorten the life of the bulb. (our prior bulb didn't last the stated average neither but lasted a lot longer than this one).Update: did some more research in reviewing lamps and customer reviews of the third party lamps. I decided actually to take a chance and buy another infocus lamp rather than an 'equivalent'. In doing some reading it appears some of the 'equivalents' are exactly equivalent (least not the quality of the manufacturing of the lamps themselves). So while they work, overall they don't last as long. However, the third party OEMs units do use OEM lamps in generic housings. So with a quality lamp they should last. Only problem is many of these units end up costing as much as a genuine Infocus unit (or in the case where they were cheaper, I was not confident about that particular vendor based upon customer reviews that I want to chance it that they are truly giving me a real OEM lamp made by say Phillips or one of the other two major lamp manufacturers or giving me a knockoff). Will have to see if this new one lasts.Update 07/25/11 - After purchasing another Infocus brand replacement lamp and inserting it into the projector, it failed to light. So I ended up having to send the unit in to an authorized repair vendor so see what the problem was and repair it if it was a reasonable cost. I sent the unit in with the new lamp (just to be sure). Turns out they had to rebuild the power supply and replace the color wheel. So the lamp was not the problem. Note: one of the reasons we suspected the lamp burned out was because for a month or so before the unit went totally dead, the lamp was much dimmer. Turns out our vga cable was causing that problem. (after I got the unit back, and mounted it up in the ceiling again with the new lamp, it showed a dim image... even though when I tested it prior to mounting up in the ceiling the video was bright.) So the original $400 replacement lamp wasn't the problem after all. So I've changed the rating to four stars. I'm keeping the original $400 replacement lamp now as the backup unit while the brand new unit is in the projector. Another reason for doing this is to make sure it survives the initial 90 days (the warranty period) which it has.

Buy this name brand bulb or you'll regret it!

Before buying this replacement lamp for my projector, I tried one of the off-brand clones. It ran really hot, the fan was LOUD, and it clicked off after about 30 minutes of use to cool itself.I returned that, and got this name-brand lamp. It works great, and is still running several thousand hours of use later.

Great value!

This replacement bulb appears to be identical to the OEM bulb in the projector. Too soon to determine bulb life, but on the surface, seems like a great value!

I received this item quickly, but have not had time to install my computer that it will be connected to. Previously, I had an Iomega 250 mb drive that worked great. However, the computer that I am about to retire is about 9 years old, and it came with an Iomega 750 mb drive internally. My main use for this drive is to submit digital photos to our local newspaper on a regular basis.

What a deal!

I picked this up for $29.99, and it's beautiful. In my opinion, Calphalon Tri-Ply is just as good as All-Clad's Stainless line, except it's 3 times cheaper. With All-Clad, you're getting the same three-layered stainless steel with aluminum disk, but paying hundreds more. I was considering All-Clad for awhile, but there were two things that changed my mind. The only possible advantage of All-Clad Stainless over Calphalon Tri-Ply is that it utilizes magnetic steel, which may help if you have an induction cooktop. Add to that fact that I don't have an induction cooktop, and magnetic steel tends to be of lower quality as well.1) It just seemed insane and stupid to have to pay nearly $100 for an All-Clad lid, and that's for the LID!! Can anyone say price inflation?2) I like the glass lids on the Calphalons, because I can then look inside without having to open the lid.Quality of the 3.5 quart saucepan is excellent. There are 3 big rivets holding the cool-V handle in place, and there's an additional smaller handle as well, but take note that the smaller handle will get hot when you cook.The mirror finish is just beautiful; I noticed that on some of the other tri-ply reviews, people were complaining about the pot not cleaning well and giving poor ratings. Morons I say. First of all, you should be purchasing a pot because you intend to cook in it, not because you want to leave it in a museum. Secondly, if they bothered to read the directions, you can maintain the original luster just by using Barkeeper's Friend.The pot heats up very quickly, and quality control is excellent here. Furtheremore, the tri-ply line comes with a lifetime warranty. People have complained that just because it's not made in the US, and made in China, that it is of poorer quality. Get off your xenophobic butts people; the quality of this line is excellent AND easy on your wallets. I have no qualms about purchasing cookware in China, this is quite the exemplar.I expect to use these pots for the next 20-30 years at least. The only downside of the tri-ply line is that there isn't a greater variety of pans/pots, and it's hard to find lids for all of them.Just a caveat about the lids- the glass lid for this 2.5 quart shallow saucepan is slightly greater than 8", so it will not fit the omelette/fry pan, which is annoying. However, I checked at a brick and mortar store, and the 8-quart stockpot lid is interchangeable with the 10" omelette/fry pan, and 3 quart sautepan. But, it does NOT fit the 10" stir fry pan, arrgh! Unfortunately, they do not carry the 3.5 quart saucepan (this item that I am reviewing) in-store so I could not compare lid sizes. In fact, when I received this item from Amazon, it came in a box marked as something like 'special add-on gift for you', which suggests to me that perhaps this isn't a regularly sold item at your local store.Just a few other notes; they did not carry the 6 quart stockpot at my local BB&B, so I couldn't compare that lid/pot size, but the 8 quart stockpot is huge. Also, the 8" omelette/fry pan is a bit too small, perhaps good for 1.5 eggs for a single person. One more bit of information which might help you in your other tri-ply purchases- the 3 quart sautepan is about 2"-2.5" in height, about comparable to the stiry fry pan, except that the sides of the sautepan are vertical.A note about cleaning- after extended use, there will be tarnishing and brown blemishes (at least on my gas range). To get rid of these, do NOT use Bon Ami because it's too gentle- doesn't get rid of stains. Best way to go is Barkeeper's Friend, about $2.50 at your local supermarket, or Cameo Stainless Steel Cleaner. However, Cameo is more abrasive than Barkeeper's Friend, and WILL reduce the mirror polish of these pans. Barkeeper's is the way to go- remember to ALWAYS rub in a CIRCULAR manner- back and forth will scratch the surfaces.** 2nd EDIT **I've had these pots and pans for 2 years now, and have steadily added to my tri ply collection. I'm still very pleased with them.- They have still retained their mirror finish on the exterior.- Cleanup is a breeze- just rub a bit of barkeeper's friend (I'd like to shake the hand of whoever invented that- best thing since sliced bread).- The moisture channeling from the lids is very much appreciated- everything I cook is definitely juicier.- I was amazed at the quality of material- I boiled some eggs in a pot one day, and 14 hours later, I kid you not, the water was still warm, not lukewarm, but warm!The biggest complaint I have about the pots, and the sole complaint that I can think of, is that the handles on the lids do get a bit hot when cooking. Just do yourself a favor and grab a pot-holder when cooking.Otherwise, I'm still very satisfied with them!

I love this pot more than the hard anodized set it came with!

I'm not crazy about the set of hard anodized pots, mainly because they can't go in the dishwasher (automatic dishwasher detergent will damage the coating). BUT my set came with this free stainless pot and I LOVE the stainless pot. After almost 10 years it is still in perfect condition and it CAN go in the dishwasher! I use this pot 5 times as much as the hard anodized pots.

This is a great saucepan and has been a great addition to my cookware. The quality is great, it seems to evenly dispurse heat and it is nice to be able to "peek" in without having to remove the lid. I would recommend this product.

Great set, tough and pretty

Okay, let's get one thing straight. If you're the type of person who requires your cookware to remain 100% scratch free forever- you are probably not much of a cook. Sorry, but pots and pans are not invincable and if you use them . . . *really* use them, they are going to get dinged, burnished and yes, even scratched. Yet, I have found that these are actually quite resistant to the kind of wear and tear that I have experienced with cheaper products and I have most definitely USED them (metal spatulas, whisking with a fork, accidentally burning oil in them . . . those of you who wince at scratched pans are probably in the fetal position at the mere mention of such practices). Despite my rather kamikaze approach to cooking, the triply has maintained a high degree of beauty and strength. A few scratches here and there, but they conduct wonderfullly and make up for my cheesy apartment range.The copper discolors when it is exposed to a lot of heat, but I don't really care. The burnished copper turns purple, green, yellow, even blue sometimes, but it scrubs away easily with the proper polish- if you must polish it away. I think it looks fine and is a sort of badge-of-honor to the world. Tarnishes and scratches all declare to my kitchen's visitors that I spend more time cooking with my pans than I do maintaining their pinkish-orange sheen.

Good cookware, but delicate

I have recently purchased a full set of Calphalon Tri-Ply Copper cookware. It is much like a traditional sports car -- sexy and well-performing, but high-maintenance. It's nicely designed and solidly constructed, and the thick layers of metal evenly conduct heat all around the contents. It's slow to heat but once up to temp, is easily controlled and cooks very gently. Typical of copper, the exterior layer requires polishing to keep its shiny good looks, and can easily be scratched -- that comes with the territory and is something to be expected. Surprisingly, however (and quite unlike other stainless steel cookware I've used), the s/s interior layer is also exceptionally prone to scratching. The interior's mirror-like appearance is attractive and useful for viewing the contents, but use of ordinary metal utensils leaves unsightly tracks which are there to stay (e.g., cannot be polished out). Calphalon's Tri-Ply Copper brochure advises that metal utensils will not harm the pan -- don't believe a word of it! Be prepared to use nylon or wood utensils if you want to avoid an ever-growing matrix of scratches, or go to a different brand of cookware altogether. I like Tri-Ply for its performance but am not impressed by having to use soft utensils as if it were old-fashioned Teflon.

Great Quality to Price Ratio!

I am shocked to read some of the reviews that complain about the copper discoloration! It's copper, you should have known this!!! Also, how is it the fault of the cookware if you cannot cook an egg without a nonstick pan? (sounds like the cook and not the cookware!) These pans are great, and easily the highest quality ever offered by Calphalon. The copper exterior makes them super responsive, giving you perfect results. One small quibble is I feel that the fry pans are a bit lighter than my All-Clads so there is a noticable dip in pan temperature if the pan gets crowded or the proteins are not close to room temp before cooking. Also, I hesitate buyuing a set of 10 pots and pans, since it's usually the same 3-4 you end up always grabbing. Still, a solid buy!

Great Backup

I installed this UPS along with its companion expansion battery pack over a year ago. The unit continues to function properly and passes integrity tests without fail. I do recommend this unit for back-up power covering critical communications installations. It is not an "ON LINE" UPS but an interactive UPS, it switches from line to UPS on Power failure. However it switches fast enough to satisfy our remote communications stacks.Tripp Lite has impressed us with this sine wave UPS, it is a leap forward in technology compared to the days of modified square wave units they manufactured in the early days.

a husband and son for Midge

My nine year old daughter had to have the "Happy Family" set andshe enjoys playing with them very much. She has Midge(sold separately) who can be transformed from pregnant to new mommy by taking off her magnetic "belly" and removing the adorable newborn baby girl. Alan is handsome with his plastered-down hair do and Ryan is a cute little boy with a Tommy-like face. The stroller can lay back so Ryan can nap. I think a better idea would have been to include a double stroller instead of a single so the new baby can ride in it too since the family is supposed to be a set. It reminds me of the Sunshine Family I had (and still have)when I was a child back in the 70's. My daughter got Alan and Ryan, Midge and baby, and the Happy Family nursery set for Christmas and she plays with it every day. I hope Mattel continues to make accessories for this line (despite the "controversy" over Midge's visible pregnancy) for those of uswho carefully and thoughtfully choose toys for our children and believe that these characters promote family values.Bravo, Mattel.

AND I SURE AM GLAD I GOT THE WHOLE SET INCLUDING DOC.BARBIE MY SAVANNA WAS SO EXCITED SHE HAS'NT STOPPED PLAYING WITH THEM SINCE I GAVE THEM TO HER.I LIKED THEM SO MUCH I GOT ME A SET TO ADD TO MY COLLECTION.IT WAS SO MUCH FUN WATCHING HER PLAY,AND SHE DON'T ASK WHERE BABIES COME FROM ANY MORE,YOU KNOW KIDS ARE ALOT SMARTER THESE DAYS AND THESE TOYS SURE DID MAKE IT ALOT EASER IN OUR HOME.I WAS TOLD AT [a local store] IN GREENVILLE THAT MICHIGAN IS PULLING THEM FROM THERE SHELVES,BUT THAT THERE DIST.MANGER SAID NOT DOWN SOUTH THERE A HOT ITEM HERE. IT'S A DARN SHAME IF THEY DO PULL THEM...ALL I CAN SAY IS THERE MAKING A BIG MISTAKE...AND I SURE AM GLAD I GOT MINE!

African American Family Album for African American dolls

I'm glad they have a toy out that promotes the relationship between father and son. I'm glad the African American version has pretty authentic looking rooted hair. The stroller's pretty durable under adverage stress, destructive children may easily destroy it. The accessories (like the camera) are easier to handle than some itty bitty accessories and proably won't be lost as easily as the baby things in the Midge/baby set. The dolls have survived some rough play, so I think it's a good durable set, more so than Midge/Baby overall.

The only problem I have is that mattle doesn't make an AFRICAN AMERICAN family album to match it's AFRICAN AMERICAN line of this 'Happy Family' set. I have the African American Ryan, Alan, Midge, Baby, and Doctor (hoping to catch the grandparents on sale after the holidays) and the 'Happy Family' album that comes with them shows the caucasian family. I have no problem with the white dolls, I make it a practice to have a diverse set of dolls to represent the world, but the purpose of getting the african-american happy family was to make it look more like ours and it would be nice if I wasn't stuck with the caucasian image every time I added to the 'Happy Family' (with certain playsets for example). It would be nice if a child's album that comes with the doll matched her (or his) doll set.
