4Good choice for surround sound on a PC.
By D. Lloyd
I use this speaker system on my PC connected to a Yamaha RP-U200 CAVIT External Audio Receiver. The speakers are small and the sound quality is good for DVD playback, games, etc. on a PC. (These are not active speakers, you will need a receiver to power them). The system came with all of the necessary cable to hook it up, and floor stands are available seperately from Sony for the speakers. The subwoofer is fairly large and heavy, and has enough power. Paid $244 from Hype Audio, NY http://www.hypeaudio.com/.

5Good software if you're willing to invest the time
By Stephen Jenkins
Vegas 4.0 is not for the faint of heart or for those who are not willing or able to take the time to learn a software package that is capable of producing professional video productions suitable for broadcast or film.

That being said, if you are willing to put some effort and time into learning it, Vegas will reward you richly. Having moved from Ulead Videostudio, I found that I immediately had much greater control over every part of my video. Color correction, transitions, unlimited number of audio tracks, over 30 DX effects for sounds, and the list goes on and on. The key here is that when you create a quality product, it's because of your own creative vision, not one imposed by the software.

If you've outgrown lesser packages or need the power straight off, I highly recommend Vegas. If you are just starting off or don't have the time to invest, pick another product.;

5Great program, not for beginners
By A Customer
I am a Television production major and I work at a TV station editing commercials to pay for school. Between work and school I have used Adobe premier, Final Cut Pro 2,3,4, and various versions of Avid, Vegas is the only one that I have bought for my own use. Vegas takes the power of avid with a interface that is almost as simple as Final Cut. Unlike most programs in this price range it is possible to make broadcast grade projects using Vegas. It is also able to do a lot of things that would have normal taken after affects to do saving a lot of time.

PositivesVery powerfulLow priceHas a built in waveform monitor and vector scope. No more guessing if your colors are hot.

NegativesThis program is not for beginners, or for people that are only working with there home movies; it is actually a intro level professional product.

5The Most Powerful Video Editor
By Randy Lee
Sony Vegas 5 was something I didn't expect, I expected a more memory consuming version of Windows Movie Maker 2. But once I installed Vegas onto my system and ran it for the first time, I never realized how vibrant my movies could be. I had shot a movie and edited on Windows Movie Maker 2 a while back, and just today, I imported the original movie files into Vegas, and made a near similar cut, but I added split screens, opening titles, and the comic ending in just 10% it took to make the movie in Windows Movie Maker 2, and I didn't have split screen stuff like I did in Windows Movie Maker. And not only that, when you're done with your video, you can easily burn it to a video CD (If you want to burn it to DVD you need Sony Vegas + DVD), and the video quality alone is unbeatable. My Jaw dropped on my lap when I saw the price, but the test proves that Sony Vegas is the most professional video editor today, without the professional price tag. Vegas is worth...well it's priceless! Sony has hit gold. It will be a long time before Vegas goes out of style. Give it 20 years. It's that good.

5The Dynamic Duo of Technology
By tomfromboston
I just received my cordless mx duo and have to say that this is by far the best keyboard and mouse I have ever owned. The keyboard is whisper quiet, the mouse is so responsive I sometimes think it's telepathic, and the enclosed software (this refers to the Mac OS X software) is top-notch, easy to use and programmable to your liking, plus incredibly stable. The price alone for both products (and only having to deal with one cordless transmitter and losing only one USB port) is reason enough to buy them together instead of separately. Even if you're thinking of just getting a new mouse, or a new keyboard, get them both and watch your amazement at how wonderful these two products work seemlessly together. Even the keyboard has a little scroll wheel and internet buttons if you don't feel like reaching over to your mouse (which also has a scroll wheel) or taking your hands off the keyboard because you're busily typing. This is one mouse and keyboard that even Microsloth can't copy (their late-in-the-game accessories are made by hewlett-packard and redistributed under the MS logo) just yet. But give them time. ;)

Every button on each Logitech product is fully configurable, but you may not want to fiddle around in the Logitech control panel. The default settings are already intuitive, and the mouse feels so good under your palm, you'll probably be saying goodbye to sore wrists in no time! Speaking of which, the mouse is incredibly smooth and responsive (for a cordless optical), and you have to wonder how they did it. Which I did, and I learned that it uses the very latest in cutting-edge RF technology. If you're a graphic designer, or even a regular computer user, you will not regret this purchase. People who have tried my mouse and keyboard were simply stunned by its incredible looks, feel, and handling. And so will you. Though your boss may think you're not working because the keyboard is so quiet!

5Only one snag
By R Phillips
I've only been using the keyboard and mouse for a couple of days, but am pretty happy so far. My MX 700 isn't having any trouble on a semi-glossy table top and the range is nice. So far, the only problems have been these:

1. After installing software from included CD-ROM, mouse stopped working (I assume an issue with microsoft mouse driver or old mouseware compatibility, not sure). I restored my setting and downloaded the newest mouseware from logitech indivually and it worked fine.

2. F11 and F12 keys are supposed to go to "My Pictures," and "My Music" respectively, but they are instead linked to "Owner's Pictures," and "Owner's Music." Running XP with different users, I want the F11 and F12 keys to be user specific. I have contacted Logitech and will update if the problem is solved (I have downloaded the most recent i-Touch software).

Overall, a very nice product so far. Even if the F11/F12 doesn't straighten out, I would probably only drop to 4 1/2 stars. Nice design and functionality. The mouse is ultra usable in that all 8 buttons are useful.

*****UPDATE--Problem worked out. Under configure for F key, had to choose "open folder" and another pull-down appears to let you browse what you would like to link to an F key. Also, logitech customer service was surprisingly friendly and useful.

3Great combo, but some limitations and poor design choices
By Erik Harris
My faithful keyboard of about seven years died suddenly. I decided to spring for a wireless keyboard and mouse. I've never used wireless keyboards or mice before, so I can't compare the responsiveness of these devices to anything but wired devices.

I can't complain about the mouse. It's really responsive, the buttons are nicely customizable. I've found one app that ignores the "cruise scroll" buttons. "Universal Scroll" works in relatively few programs, and when it does work, it goes WAY too fast to be useful. These are both very minor issues, and this is a huge improvement over both the mouse and trackball I was using before (I still use the trackball sometimes).

I'm less impressed with the keyboard. I often find myself typing ahead of what's appearing on screen, which has never happened to me with a wired keyboard (except over a slow modem connection). Additionally, many of the buttons assume I'm a MicroSoftie. iTouch buttons configured to launch URL's don't work in Mozilla 1.4 (they do nothing). Same with the iNav "Go" button. Function keys set up for email functions don't work in Eudora 4 (they do nothing, and cannot be reconfigured to the point of assigning a key combination to force them to work with your email client). "Favorites" opens Internet Explorer and its Favorites sidebar, despite Mozilla being my default browser. The iNav "back" button is pretty unresponsive when using it in "forward" mode (shift-back. You have to let up on both "shift" and "back", making multiple rapid "forwards" hard to do).

There are also two incredibly poor design choices made that will require you to change your habits around the limitations of the hardware. First, there are no LEDs on the keyboard, which means that if you want to quickly check to see if Caps Lock or Num Lock is on, you need to look at the base station (or an on-screen display). Second, the base station needs to be placed at least 8" away from other electronic devices, yet it comes with a very short 4-5' cord. With a full tower case on the floor on one side of the desk, this severely limits placement (Logitech suggests AGAINST using a hub, like in some monitors, a switchbox, or an extension cord). When I move in a few months, I'm going to need to design my new computer layout based on the limitations of the Cordless MX Duo base station's short cord!

Overall, the convenience of going wireless has won me over, and none of the "problem keys" on the keyboard are essential. The time lag issue is not significant. The only issues that I think are significant are the hardware design issues I mentioned. Those will be an annoyance for years to come. I'd rate it a 3.5/5, but since I can't, I'm choosing 3 instead of 4. Some of these issues may be resolved with future software updates, but the worst of the issues cannot be resolved without replacing hardware.

** Note - since writing this review, I took someone's advice and placed the base station where ever I wanted to (right near the monitor, in my case). Despite Logitech's warnings to the contrary, I've noticed _no_ difference in performance or reliability since doing this. This also makes NumLock and CapsLock more easily viewable than if I were to follow Logitech's advice.

4good for laptops/notebooks
By R. Dowling
I own a laptop computer which has decent onboard sound capabilities, but I recently discovered that it only has one audio input -- a microphone jack -- which is mono, and therefore is not suitable for recording stereo sources. Due to the fact that there is no way to install a "real" sound card in it, I needed an external solution. This USB sound system from Creative fits the bill. It didn't make a dramatic -- or even noticable -- difference in the quality of the audio coming out of my speakers; however, it did allow me to digitize my old cassette tapes and vinyl records, which is the main reason I bought it. If your computer can't accomodate a real sound card and its audio abilities aren't good enough for what you need, this might be the solution you're looking for.

5the Zen solution for better PC sound quality
By Eduardo Nietzsche
My Dell PC has an integrated soundcard, which provided mediocre-at-best sound quality whenever I tried to listen to Internet radio stations through my compact stereo system. I researched a whole slew of internal sound cards but read too many complaints about software glitches/slowdowns which made me balk at forking out $80 and up for them.

This USB external card does what I need perfectly: at a very reasonable price, I now get CD-quality sound from online music radio stations (the corporate FM stations here in Houston are just too pathetic for words) and without ever having to install any additional software on my PC, so zero noticeable resource drain. Sure if I ever decide to do surround sound (unlikely in my already-cramped home office) or do some cross-medium recording (unlikely due to my lack of time) I may regret not buying a more expensive card---but in the meantime I'm VERY happy with this sleek little baby. Simplicity, functionality, and cost-effectiveness...I couldn't ask for more!

And yeah, the sleek silver casing and flashing blue light are pretty cool too.

BTW, some awesome Net stations with zero commercials, awesome playlists, and free too: di.fm (the classical and modern jazz channels), kexp.org, radioparadise.com

5Great Product
By ADC
I bought this unit simply as a replacement for my Dell laptop sound card, which was very noisy. What I got was much more.I use my PC when I am learning new tunes on my guitar, so I usually have my sound card line out going to a small mixer where I mix in my guitar effects unit then ultimately out to a set of powered speakers. The MP3+ fits perfectly into this set up with no noise. I can also change my setup by dropping the mixer and running my guitar effects into the MP3+ line in. This allows me to record my own rhythms to play against. An unexpected bonus was the fact that I can create tunes using Finale Guitar and then record them to mp3 format simply by selecting midi as the recording source in the media source software. Recording to mp3 is not an option in Finale Guitar, but with the MP3+ it becomes one.The software that comes with this unit is great for folks like me. Wave Studio and MediaSource Player allow me to record from albums, mp3 players, cd players, XM radio...whatever and trim, fade, cut, loop, slow down, speed up etc.Not having to deal with a power chord is icing on the cake. I highly recommend this unit to anyone that enjoys playing around with music as a hobby.

4Very good for the price!
By Kevlar_PCs
Although very cheap, these speakers deliver great value! Crystal clear audio and great bass, these speakers are perfect for just about any use. The Corded remote makes ajdusting the volume easily acessible. The power switch is a little smaller, and more out of the way, but you can get used to it. To experience the full 4.1 surround sound, you need to have a creative sound card, or one that supports the 4 chanel output. otherwise you're limited to 2 front speakers. Overall, its a fairly decent set of speakers, and very good for the price!

5Great surround at a cheap price.
By A. Chen
These Creative SBS 450 sounds crisp, with a booming bass subwoofer and very nice midrange. It's a little lacking in the high range though, but that's probably due to the tiny 3 inch satellite drivers.Buy two more 12 feet RCA extension cables and you can wire up your room with four speakers on each corner in the ceiling, makes for an amazing mini home theater. The wired remote is also a big plus, now you don't have to craw around to adjust the volume. All in all, as a first time Creative speakers customer, these exceeded my expectations.

5Superb Sound Quality! Highly Recommended!
By D. Collier
When I got a new computer several months ago, with DVD compatability, I got rid of my television. Now I only watch movies on the computer. But the speakers which came with the computer were horrible to say the least.

When I finally purchased this particular speaker system, I was amazed at the sound quality. I'm not an electronics guru or anything like that, so I am easily intimidated by stuff like this. But the setup was very easy, straightforward, and self-explanatory. Very little instruction was required. One thing which was required (and is not included in the package) was a Y-plug. This may be required for most computers. If you end up needing one and don't have one, you can still enjoy quality sound from two of the four speakers. But Y-plugs are very inexpensive.

I highly recommend this system.

5Can't kill a SCSI
By Robert Weir
Got this drive in my system for a couple of months now. I guess I am old fashion but, every single SCSI drive I own is still working. I don't understand it but I have blown IDE drives in the past and even DVD drives. I also have a SCSI CD and SCSI CD writer and they will not quit. There is a reason these drives types were used in servers.
