Great vest for a lot of things.

When I first looked at the vest I was surprised at how sturdy it is. I thought the mesh might sag under weight, but the mesh is very thick. And, what you can't see from the pictures is that fabric comes up the front and down the back, effectively creating suspenders for heavy items in the front and back pockets.I could probably carry a full size dSLR with a battery grip in one of the front inside pockets, and a decent size lens in the other. The back pockets are huge, but I'm not a big fan of putting anything but manuals or magazines in a pocket I can sit on. Maybe one or two small lenses could also be carried here and there. There are so many pockets that you had better figure out a system or you'll be spending more time looking in pockets than you care to.Even with a camera bag I will wear this vest to keep all of my personal items in, like glasses, sun glasses, cell phone, MP3 player, and on and on......... And the good part is that you could hang it up near a wall outlet and charge all of your devices, and the vest will be ready to go the next morning with no hunting around the house for everything!Definitely a good buy. I've looked at a few vests, and this is the best for the money, both quality wise and for the fact that it meets a photographer's needs.

Excellent Vest

I love my Domke Vest and wear it whenever I am shooting. I also find that it is extremely helpful when flying. I can keep my passport, boarding passes and other important documents safe and easily accessible. Some airlines, such as China Air, have a weight restriction on carry on gear that is very limited. I will simply take one or two items out of my carry-on when checking in and place them in the vest pockets. Then after I am through with check-in, I replace the items into my carry-on bag.The big back pocket is great to collect brochures and other information on the subjects or areas which I shoot.This vest is far superior to the fly fisherman's vests that are sold by other companies under the pseudonym "Photo Vest".Changes or modifications:1. I would like this vest to incorporate epaulettes on the shoulders to keep the straps of equipment bags or tripods from slipping off the shoulders. My wife has sewn Velcro tabs on one shoulder which does a good job securing the straps.2. I wish that there was one long vertical pocket on either side of the chest in which to carry a large telephoto lens upright. Since I am a right handed photographer, I would prefer this pocket to be at my left chest so I could easily remove and replace the lens.3. I wish that there was a mesh water bottle pocket on the side of the vest.4. I would like this vest to come in an olive drab color - simply because I don't look great in Khackie color and the black that the vest is also supplied in would be too hot on a sunny day.5. I'd like to see this vest treated with a water repellent. I have sprayed my Vest with Scotchguard which protects it a bit from moisture and protects it a lot from dirt.Caveats:1. Wearing this vest on a photo shoot requires discipline in pocketing the equipment. There are so many pockets available that unless I am disciplined, I tend to misplace equipment. However, once I decide on a specific location for each piece of gear, I can always find it easily.2. The vest can carry so much equipment that a photographer could tend to overload it and bring everything except the proverbial kitchen sink, Although the vest can easily hold the equipment and although it is easier for me to carry equipment in the vest because it distributes the weigh across my shoulders; I still try to minimize the weight of equipment I carry.

Domke photographer's vest

The vest is very well made and extremely comfortable. The fabric is of excellent quality. There are pockets everywhere. I am able to carry just about anything I need, including a couple of sandwiches or other snacks. The bellows pockets will accommodate a lens or two but there is no padding in these pockets, so some caution is required.I initially ordered a XXL, which turned out to be too large. It is already oversized, so it will fit over a light to medium weight jacket.I replaced it with an XL, which fits perfectly.
