5Plasma qualify without the price tag!
By C. Fernandes
I first saw this TV at BestBuy and was quite hooked on it. The clarity is exceptional - with a good quality signal input (HD, DVD), you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this set and an HDTV plasma.I did lots of research before finally buying it from a reputed dealer on ebay. But I found out lots about this type of TV (DLP). I won't go into details of DLP, there's a very good site for this: http://www.dlp.comBut DLP is what makes this TV so wonderful. Remember, this really is no ordinary Rear projection TV. It has a 100W light bulb - this is the only component that needs maintenance (life span of the bulb is 8000 hrs, about 4 years). The screen does not 'age' or 'burn in' and there's no calibration of lenses, etc. So essentially, when you replace the light bulb (about $200) it's as good as a brand new TV all over again. As for the TV I purchased - it was plug and play. Simply wonderful, even with ordinary (Not digital) cable. (My cable provider is Comcast). The Tuner on the TV, even though sophisticated enough to have fine tuning, did not give as clear a picture as my Sony VCR Tuner (connected to one of the RCA inputs at the back of the TV) - so I watch cable through my Sony VCR. But it's clear enough.I use a JVC DVD player and I hooked this to one of the component inputs at the back of the TV - the picture is just awesome! The sound is not that great, but okay - the TV has this 'BBE' (Bass Enhancement) option that gives a good punch.I was able to program the remote to work both my Sony VCR and JVC DVD player, not bad!Update: I've had this TV for about 3 months before I realized that my old DVD player was not giving a progressive scan output. So I bought a new DVD player with progressive scan output and the picture is even better! Also, where inputs on this TV are concerned, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better TV. This one has it all, as listed below:1) ONE DVI input - you definitely want an HDTV with this type of input, it's the clearest form of HD signal you can get today.2) TWO High Definition component inputs (they can handle 1080i and 720p) - this is also a very high quality HD signal, but it is analog as opposed to DVI which is purely digital.3) ONE regular component input (handles only 480i).4) TWO S-Video inputs5) TWO regular (RCA jack) video inputs6) ONE VGA input used for your connecting your PC to. This is nice if you want to do a presentation from your PC using the TV as a monitor.

This TV may drop in price, but is really becoming popular for obvious reasons. If you see it anywhere on sale, go ahead and buy it, I highly recommend it!

5Wow!
By WT
I finally took the plunge and purchased the Samsung 50" DLP. And "wow" is pretty much all I can say. The picture quality is unbelievable. I finally understand why everyone is oogling over HDTV. I hooked up the DVD player (an old Sony, non-progressive scan) and I sat there dumbfounded. I started the "testing phase" with Apollo 13. Wow. I could tell very little difference between S-Video and Component Video, and while Component gets the slight edge, you have to be picky to care because the picture quality is outstanding either way. Hooked up the digital cable box... and again, two wows! The first wow is for how bad a standard television signal looks! It was embarrassing... I can't believe we've been watching this junk for decades! The second wow is for how much better the digital signal looks.

I then ran out and upgraded my cable box to a HD box.... ok, this is a big wow! It's so good it's almost stupid. I sat there mesmerized by this almost surreal picture. Travels through Italy, Hogan's Heroes (who knew this stuff was in HD?), Three Days of the Condor, and the College World Series... it was almost like being there... actually it was better. I may never leave the house!

Hookups are great. Plenty of component, s-video, and even a DVI (which I haven't used yet, although my cable box does have DVI, hard to believe the picture could be better). As integrated speakers go, the Samsung sounds great. It has a simulated surround sound mode which I tested with Apollo 13 and, while not high end surround sound, I was quite impressed. This ain't your daddy's tv speaker. Out-of-box experience was as good as it gets. It was well packed, easy to unpack, and everything worked perfectly. The remote will not win awards for revolutionary design, but it was intuitive enough for me to get to everything I needed.

My only real world experience with big screen tv is my dad's Sony rear projection. What impressed me with the Samsung compared to that experienece is... you can't get too close (no tunneling), it looks great from the side, from the floor, and standing up.... you do lose a little brightness, but it's still very watchable. It's not as good as plasma, but it's not far off. One of my pet peeves with big screens is the finish on the glass... I much prefer the "matte" non-reflective finish of the Samsung. And when combined with the superb brightness, you can watch (and enjoy) the picture even in a brightly lit room.

It wasn't easy for me to pull the trigger... I've spent the past several years of lusting over big screen televisions... never passing up the opportunity to peruse the aisles at BestBuy and Circuit City... watching the evolution from rear projection to plasma to LCD... and nothing really impressed me (ok, the plasma did impress me, but the pricetag was beyond comprehension). But there was always something that turned me off... my dad's Sony projection is cool, but when I watch a movie on it, I can see "CNN" and "Live" burned into the corners of the screen... and then I learned that you can get burn-in on plasma as well. Yikes. Then I saw the DLP... and I came close to falling in love.

If you're thinking about going HD and you can afford it, you will not be dissappointed with the Samsung.

5Think long term -- HD vs. SD
By cotasm
I recently bought the newer version of this TV (Model# HLN507W, which can also be found at Amazon) from a local store. It was the DLP technology which sold me on it. I brought it home, hooked it up, sat down in front of it, and turned it on. However, I quickly saw why many people (on other sites) were giving this TV a bad review. The biggest complaint was that a digital non-HD picture (known as standard definition or SD) didn't look as sharp as they'd hoped for a high-end projection TV. They were right! So, disappointed, I got up and walked away from the TV towards my wife and said, "bad picture." She replied, "I think it looks GREAT!" I turned around and it DID look great! After doing some reading, here are two very important tips that I've learned:

1) Distance is key for achieving a good picture from a non-HD source!!!

Even the manual gives you a mathematical way of determining appropriate viewing distance. I've never seen anything like it. I could see the picture falling apart if I just took a step or two inside the recommended distance, but it looked excellent otherwise. I should probably note that the distance issue is almost eliminated when you are viewing from a HD source like a HD tuner or DVD player that has progressive output.

2) Think long term!!!

This TV was not built to impress those who are satisfied with a SD picture. Any complaints about the TV that I (and most others) have had deal exclusively with a non-HD picture. This TV's picture when viewing from a HD source is second to none! It's far better than any plasma or LCD screen I've seen -- thanks to DLP. The day is fast approaching when all transmissions will be in HD, and when that day arrives, then there should be NO complaints about this TV. Its HD picture is simply stunning!

4What do you want to today?
By austin_Larry
Should you get a PocketPC? Should you get the Ipaq H2215? Depends of course on what you want to do, what difference it will make in your life, is it worth the money. The price of the unit is without a memory card...and yes you will need a memory card. I have a 1GB card and it was worth the money. Was the Ipaq worth it? For me yes.

I also bought a foldable keyboard so add that to the price. I am a graduate student and I bought the Ipaq knowing it had a recording function. This is very handy for me in interview situations. I like being able to display PDFs, PowerPoints (not very usable but a nice 'toy' this since the slides are so small), word documents, EXCEL, etc. The addition of the keyboard actually allows me to create files and I really like the size of the Ipaq even with keyboard compared to a laptop.

Of course it is not all work. I had an audible.com subscription for a couple of years and can play my library on this. If you have never tried audible with a pocketpc...it is a worthwhile experience. I am an avid reader but I have found that there are times when listening to a book is just the thing. With 1GB it is not an Ipod but it gets the job done for me and the sound is very good with MP3s. Add avantgo, ebook reader, and ahem, Pocket Everquest and it is a pocket entertainment center.

It is also extemely verstile. To get an idea of what a pocket PC can do for you visit a website that had downloads of applications. I found a very nice scientific calculator with graphing functions that would be at least $70 or more dollars for $12 as a download today. I am also trying out something called pocket earth that is very interesting.

Why 4 stars? I didn't really need bluetooth and there are other products out there a bit less exsepsenive if you don't need that. But HP customer service is A1. If you ask an email question they usually reply within 24 hours although for my old Jornada it use to be within in an hour. The unit comes with a CD-ROM with multiple utlities that you will find useful. In addition to price (and it is a very fair price btw overall) I feel the battery life could be better. Granted size played into that but you will find yourself recharging quite often. In a way that is a backhanded good thing though, it means you are finding uses for it, even if they are frivolous. So if you are willing to spend the money for the unit AND the money for a memory card big enough to serve your needs AND the money for a keyboard if you plan on actually creating documents with the Ipaq and it still seems worth it, enjoy your new pocket computer and your new toy. I am.

4Best mix of features for decent price
By A Customer
I owned Palm Vx for 3 years and finally found a decent color PDA that is sleek withhout sacrificing any features:

PROS

- Sleek- Great navigation button for game lovers (even sony CLIE's aren't close)- Integrated bluetooth- Good display and good speed- HP support was good when I had problem setting up AvantGo- Even though HP doesn't mention bundled software, they did infact bundle quite good collection of software which I think is around [money amount]worth.- The synchronization software that comes with Palm is useless. You have to buy additional software and configure it to really get all the contact information mapped to the Outlook contact fields. If you are going to synchonize with Outlook, think no other than Pocket PC based PDA.

CONS

- Notes support in Pocket PC sucks. PDA device vendors should start bundling HPC Notes software along with this until Microsoft decideds to make it better. Can't even filter notes by categories.

- Carry case should be flip-open type. You have to take the PDA out before using it.

CONCLUSION

Even if money is no constraint, I would still go for this model.

I still can't understand why it takes Sony so long to come up with a good mix of features that is sleek. Inspite of being a big Sony fan, I wouldn't pay $800 for Sony PEG-UX50.

Add value to your PDA by buying Pocket Informant or Agenda Fusion.

I gave 4 star instead of 5 because:- I want it to be as sleek as iPAQ h1910 with iPAQ h2215 feature set- Software like HPC Notes is not bundled

5HP GOT IT RIGHT THIS TIME.
By John L. Price
If you are like me, you just want a good reason to buy the Pocket PC you are now looking at. BUY IT!

Why? Because the OS software and Sync software loads and operates flawlessly. HP answered every complaint ever made about PDA's from its competitors and its own PDA products. This machine tops them all. It was my last machine to review after three days of intense research. When I went to buy the second best, this unit had just hit the rack. After working with it and despite the fact there were no reviews out by other users, I took a chance because it looked and worked absolutely perfect. In the electronics department, this was one the smartest moves I ever made.

Before this, I didn't know what to buy: Pocket PC or Palm. How glad I am that I chose the IPAQ H2215. I am a minister of the gospel and loaded this thing with Bible software, a mini-word processor - heavy weight programs and they work like a dream. It is not a toy or a gadget - it is a wonderful tool!

The battery is replaceable and operates a good 5-6 hours in heavy use. The cradle connection is solid; there is no doubt that you are charging the unit. There is a place on the charger for a second battery, as the battery can be replaced by the user. Also, there is an adapter to permit you to charge on the road, without the cradle. Nothing extra to buy.

It uses both CF (compact flash) and SD Card, has blue tooth installed and the screen is marvelous. The processor is lightning fast. The unit fits in your shirt or pants pocket easy enough. If you work a lot away from the office or home desk top, this is the unit you want.

Buy it!

HOYA 77MM CIRCULAR POLARIZER SUPER HMC FILTERBuy HOYA 77MM CIRCULAR POLARIZER SUPER HMC FILTER

HOYA 77MM CIRCULAR POLARIZER SUPER HMC FILTER Product Description:

  • Creates dramatic sky/cloud contrast.
  • Saturates colors without changing color balance.
  • Mount rotates to control amount of effect.
  • Super Multi Coated for maximum flare protection.

Product Description

HOYA 77MM CIRCULAR POLARIZER SUPER HMC FILTER Light rays which are reflected by any surface become polarized and polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. PL (Linear Polarizing) and PL-CIR (Circular Polarizing) filters have the same effect, but it is important that you choose the correct version for your camera. They allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer, with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. HOYA's polarizing filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot.

5Used on Tokina 12-24 Wide Zoom
By Ole fart
This lens had vignetting with the "normal" Circular Polarizer. Replaced that with the "Extra Thin" polarizing filter and problem solved..Now images are sharp and clear edge to edge..Additionally this protects the $400+ investment on the lens itself, and works great in making ordinary skies pop..

5Adds a Wow Factor to Your Sunny Daylight Images
By Mark VanDonge Photography
This is the first polarizer I've owned and I've been very pleased with it. It rotates very smoothly and fits snugly on my Canon lenses. Given that this is so thin to accommodate wide angle lenses there are no front threads so your snap-on covers will not work while this filter is attached (it does come with a rubber cover that works just fine though). While I purchased this primarily for artistic landscape and travel photography one of the applications where this has improved my images the most is in architectural photography. I often shoot a couple homes per week and there is simply no comparison in the outdoor images with and without the filter. Consider it a must have if you do very much with real estate.

5Nice filter
By SeaHuntFan
A good polarizer is a mandatory piece of equipment for any photographers gear bag. This polarizer is very thin and designed to be used on a very wide angle lens without any vignetting. The Hoya 77mm polarizer is a design success.

I have used this filter for about six months now. It's perfect. Sky becomes vivid blue and the grass becomes vivid green. It also eliminates the reflection perfectly. 4NOXB3 Performs Well In Hostile Environment
By H. J. Rossi
Night Owl Explorer BinocularsI mainly selected this NOXB3 Night Owl product on the recommendation of a user on another site. It was a long review, and it was obvious he was very knowledgeable on electronics and specifically, night vision equipment. He especially praised the double optic feature, an expensive design which is rare in such a reasonably priced device. The binoculars got a good field test I thought, with a 10 night border watch at the Tex/Mex border in October, 2008. This is a hostile, violent environment south of Corpus Christi, Texas, with very fine dust that can invade even the most well-sealed electronics. During the test, there was also a light, with sometimes steady, rain. Neither problem bothered our unit. The terrain itself is hostile, with cactus, needle spike bushes and ball burrs that easily penetrate a military utility ACU uniform, thus the unit was used on occasion to simply observe a reasonably safe pass when walking in areas not on the beaten path or maintenance roads. The eye piece end has eye-adjustment, but we found that they were comfortable to view while wearing glasses, and adjusted the vision part accordingly. On the focus end, the reader must understand that night vision devices require considerable fine-tuning to put your image in focus, but our unit did well with this, out to 75 or 100 yards, and although fuzzy, were usable even beyond that.DOWNSIDE: The one, but irritating, downside was the focusing stability. Although the eye adjustment had firm and notched stops, the focus did not, and dropping the unit from your eyes onto your chest could slightly move your hard-fought-for fine focusing. To combat this, the user could gently rest them on the chest or simply continue to hold them in the rest position. Another option is a tripod, and the maker installed the nice feature of a female receiving post under the unit to receive the tripod screw.Another small, but irritating feature were inside flaps released by Velcro. these were loud and non-tactical, and an issue where stealth is important. This is by-passed by simple folding down the flaps and ignored. The opening Velcro piece was fairly small, and if careful, removed with only a slight, small, noise._____________________________Continuing....During the test, the unit was also used by another operator who had considerable experience with night vision equipment and owned a Generation 1 unit made by another company. He, frankly, was amazed at the performance of this Night Owl. Far more clarity and depth of field than he was used to. During the times I was using a more powerful unit furnished by the organization, he used my Night Owl, rather than his own.Overall, I rated this Night Owl NOXB3 s 4.5, considering the Generation 1 technology and it's reasonable price, I thought it was a good value for the money spent.(Reviewer note: In Product Dimensions, it advises the weight of this unit is 8.8 pounds which is incorrect. The true weight is 2.0 pounds.)Rossi
