5Even Baking!!!!! Wow!!! Great Gift for Hope chest/Bridal
By Sarah E. Morgan
Ok, I'm not like the best cook, but these bakeware products by Calphalon make it hard to mess up.

This is a great set because:

1. TWO 8" round pans- You always need 2 pans when you're making a cake and for the price amazon has this whole set is like the same as just buying the 2 pans.

2.Jelly Roll Pan- This multipurpose! It has just enough sides on it to cook brownies, but flat enough to also make cookies. Also Calphalon products are great about not sticking!

3. Loaf Pan is great size for banana nut bread for the holidays!!

4. 6 Cup Muffin Pan- perfect for the cook who needs those few muffins in the morning for a small family

Great Starter set for the Hope Chest or Bride

5A Great Bargain!!!!
By Judith N. Reynal
Simply the best - don't fool around with the discount store run of the mill bakeware. This is a set that will last forever (with proper care). The only negative - you cannot wash it in the dishwasher. To do so voids the lifetime warranty and damages the nonstick finish.

  • 18/10 stainless-steel exterior and interior with brushed finish
  • Hard-anodized alumimum for superior heat conduction and distribution
  • Ergonomically designed stay-cool handles; tempered glass lid; flared rims
  • Oven-safe to 450 degrees F; dishwasher-safe; lifetime warranty

Product Description

If you are drawn to the beauty of stainless steel, yet are reluctant to sacrifice the cooking efficiency of aluminum, you can now have the very best of both worlds. A mirror polish stainless steel exterior, a heavy gauge conductive aluminum filling, and a satin finish stainless steel interior form a 3-ply disc. The disk is then formed into a pan shape, with walls and bottom of equal thickness, which allows heat to be conducted evenly. A glass lid allows you to monitor food and its domed design returns condensed moisture to foods. A stay cool handle features an ergonomic design and secure attachment. This shallow pan is good for warming leftovers, making reduction sauces and for cooking grains like rice and bulgur.

5Worthy accompaniment to its larger brother
By Senor Zoidbergo
In my opinion, Calphalon Tri-Ply is just as good as All-Clad's Stainless line, except it's 3 times cheaper. With All-Clad, you're getting the same three-layered stainless steel with aluminum disk, but paying hundreds more. I was considering All-Clad for awhile, but there were two things that changed my mind. The only possible advantage of All-Clad Stainless over Calphalon Tri-Ply is that it utilizes magnetic steel, which may help if you have an induction cooktop. Add to that fact that I don't have an induction cooktop, and magnetic steel tends to be of lower quality as well.1) It just seemed insane and stupid to have to pay nearly $100 for an All-Clad lid, and that's for the LID!! Can anyone say price inflation?2) I like the glass lids on the Calphalons, because I can then look inside without having to open the lid.Quality of the 2.5 quart saucepan is excellent. There are big rivets holding the cool-V handle in place, and I like the feel of the handle. I tried the All-Clad analogue, and the handle just wasn't very comfortable. The size of the saucepan is just right. I was a bit annoyed that the Amazon description does not include the sizes, but this pot is about 8" in diameter, and 3.125" deep. Perfect for making sauces (duh!), sauteeing veggies, cooking rice or oatmeal, etc... The glass lid is also very nice, and actually helps to channel the moisture back inside. The mirror finish is just beautiful; I noticed that on some of the other tri-ply reviews, people were complaining about the pot not cleaning well and giving poor ratings. Morons I say. First of all, you should be purchasing a pot because you intend to cook in it, not because you want to leave it in a museum. Secondly, if they bothered to read the directions, you can maintain the original luster just by using Barkeeper's Friend. The pot heats up very quickly, and quality control is excellent here. Furtheremore, the tri-ply line comes with a lifetime warranty. People have complained that just because it's not made in the US, and made in China, that it is of poorer quality. Get off your xenophobic butts people; the quality of this line is excellent AND easy on your wallets. Even accounting for increased labor costs in the US, there is no reason that All Clad needs to overcharge (in my opinion). I have no qualms about purchasing cookware in China, this is quite the exemplar.I expect to use these pots for the next 20-30 years at least. The only downside of the tri-ply line is that there isn't a greater variety of pans/pots, and it's hard to find lids for all of them. Just a caveat about the lids- the glass lid for this 2.5 quart shallow saucepan is slightly greater than 8", so it will not fit the omlette/fry pan, which is annoying. However, I checked at a brick and mortar store, and the 8-quart stockpot lid is interchangeable with the 10" omelette/fry pan, and 3 quart sautepan. But, it does NOT fit the 10" stir fry pan, arrgh!***EDIT***: I've used this pot enough that I can comment some more on it. One feature that I especially like is that the pot is oven safe to 700 degrees F, and the lid to 450 degrees. Therefore it's so easy to mix up some batter in the pot, then transport directly into the oven, and back out. Also, it's a shallow saucepan, and the walls are just deep enough for making your favorite reduction sauce, or baking a nice apple crisp.I've been very satisfied- also, the 'dripless' rim is great! Has prevented many potential messes so far.Additionally, the lids enable moisture to collect, and drip back towards your food, resulting in much less dry victuals. After having also purchased the 3 quart saute pan (hard to find as an open stock since it's only in the sets now), I must add that this 2.5 quart saucepan doubles as a smaller version of the saute pan. The diameter is large enough, ~8", and deep enough to function as a saute pan, so this pair of pans is unbeatable!A note about cleaning- after extended use, there will be tarnishing and brown blemishes (at least on my gas range). To get rid of these, do NOT use Bon Ami because it's too gentle- doesn't get rid of stains. Best way to go is Barkeeper's Friend, ($2.50 at your local supermarket), or Cameo Stainless Steel Cleaner (~$1.29). However, Cameo is more abrasive than Barkeeper's Friend, and WILL reduce the mirror polish of these pans. Barkeeper's is the way to go- remember to ALWAYS rub in a circular manner- back and forth will scratch the surfaces.** 2nd EDIT **I've had these pots and pans for 2 years now, and have steadily added to my tri ply collection. I'm still very pleased with them.- They have still retained their mirror finish on the exterior.- Cleanup is a breeze- just rub a bit of barkeeper's friend (I'd like to shake the hand of whoever invented that- best thing since sliced bread).- The moisture channeling from the lids is very much appreciated- everything I cook is definitely juicier.- I was amazed at the quality of material- I boiled some eggs in a pot one day, and 14 hours later, I kid you not, the water was still warm, not lukewarm, but warm! The biggest complaint I have about the pots, and the sole complaint that I can think of, is that the handles on the lids do get a bit hot when cooking. Just do yourself a favor and grab a pot-holder when cooking.Otherwise, I'm still very satisfied with them!

5This Pot is HOT HOT HOT
By Cheryl Gethers
I have been shopping around for the best buy on Calphalon for several months. This pan is worth the price and some. It cooks evenly, heats in a jiff. The glass lid is a plus and fits snug on the pot. The handle is sturdy and stays cool. You wont have to worry about it coming off like the cheaper brands. I read other comments about the rivets and cleaning them. That is a small minus when you think about the quality and cooking performance of this cookware line. I have hard anodized and stainless steel pieces all are great. I do advise looking for discount prices. Another great tip is cleaning with the distilled vinegar when the stainless steel gets discolored. This works instantly. Whether you cook a little or alot, gourmet or not, you NEED this pot in your cabinet.

5A Good Sauce Pan and Here are My Reasons
By Richard Wong
I bought this 2.5 quart shallow saucepan for ~$40 and I like it. The pan is 8 inch in diameter and 3.5 inch tall. The handle in ~8 inch in length. You may be still deciding if stainless steel is for you. I don't believe every cookware should be stainless steel. For example, I believe a carbon-steel wok is superior to a stainless one and a cast-iron skillet is just unbeatable. Nevertheless, stainless steel is a good all-purpose material and should play an important role in one's cookware collection. The initial cost for good stainless steel cookware can be high, but they last a lifetime. In the long run, a $100 stainless steel sauce pan is cheaper than buying $20 nonstick pans over and over. The Calphalon Tri-Ply stainless steel cookware belongs to the medium-high end cookware. There are several pricier brands, such as All-Clad. The Calphalon Tri-Ply is just as good as the All-Clad in most aspects. They are both heavy and sturdy. The only two exceptions are that All-Clad stainless steel cookware can be used on an inductive stove and they are made in USA. The reason All-Clad can be used for induction cooking is because the exterior surface is 18/0 stainless steel which can be magnetized whereas Calphalon has 18/10 stainless steel on both exterior and interior surfaces and cannot be magnetized. If you think you will be using induction cooking, then Calphalon will not work for you. If not, the 18/10 exterior surface of Calphalon is better, as it is considered of higher quality steel. I prefer "Made in USA" when possible. However, All-Clad is just too much for me. For example, an All-Clad saucepan of similar size is $100-180 (All-Clad Stainless 2-Quart Saucier Pan, All-Clad Stainless 3-Quart Saute Pan with Loop). I could buy the $100, but I definitely would not want to spend $180 on a pan. Calphalon has three main lines of stainless steel cookware. They are: "Simply Calphalon Stainless", "Tri-Ply Stainless" and "Contemporary Stainless" (least expensive to most expensive). All three lines has aluminum sandwiched between stainless steel. Stainless steel is a poor heat conductor, so aluminum is incorporated to provide uniform heating - avoiding heat spots. "Simply Calphalon" only has aluminum on the bottom of the cookware. "Tri-Ply Stainless" and "Contemporary Stainless" have the tri-ply continues up to sides. Overall, I slightly prefer "Tri-Ply Stainless" over "Contemporary Stainless". The "Contemporary Stainless" line is very stylish and it has a brush stainless steel exterior so it will retain its "first day look" better. I also like the thicker and shorter handle on the "Contemporary Stainless". On the other hand, the "Tri-Ply Stainless" line is slightly heavier (which I prefer), has flared rims to allow liquid to be neatly poured out, and is less expensive. The saucepan is very sturdy and has a decent weight to it. In my experience, the pan handle does not heat up -- the handle on the lid does. If you have trouble removing water spots, vinegar will do. For tougher stains, (Bar Keepers Friend Cookware Cleanser & Polish: 12 OZ) will remove them. Buy yourself a bottle of Bar Keepers Friend, it is good for many other things. At the end, I like to clarify that I am not giving this pan a 5 star rating because it is the best on the market, rather it has a great performance-to-price ratio. Paying $40 for a fully triply stainless steel sauce pan is a great deal.*Update Dec 2009*The Contemporary Stainless line has an advantage over the Tri-ply Stainless line. The lids on the Contemporary cookware are easier to clean because the glass-to-metal joint is smooth.*Update Jan 2013*My pan is still working fine. One thing I like to bring out is that Calphalon stainless steel cookware have been modified to make them induction-ready. This msot likely mean the exterior stainless steel is no longer 18/10, but 18/0, since it is very difficult for 18/10 stainless steel to be magnetized by induction cooktop.

5Do NOT Hesitate to Buy These
By Justin
All reviews I have read here which are negative come without warrant. Seriously, read the directions before you use your cookware, no matter which brand you buy. Any non-stick cookware will tell you NOT to put it in the dishwasher. Dishwashers destroy non-stick coating, not to mention your warranty! The directions will tell you this. READ!Now for review...Cooking:Heat a little hotter than my last set and will need to get used to it. However, at the same time it seems like boiling water takes a little longer. I am still trying to get the hang of them. Transferring straight to the oven is indispensable. I was never able to previously cook by sautéing, then transferring directly to oven for a few minutes. This is the only way to cook! Honestly, I always watched the pros cook in this fashion and let me tell you, now I know why! This set can withstand up to 450 F temps.Cleaning:I went from Circulon to Calphalon Contemporary. Night and day is the range of difference for cleaning. My wife even says she doesn't mind washing these pans one bit because they are so easy. She told me the other day that sometimes she could probably get away with just wiping them out with a paper towel. And, every time she cleans them, she always mentally thanks me for buying them.Issues:One issue I have notice is the tightness of the lids. They suck to the pans and are sometimes hard to remove. However, I think this might be better than if they didn't. If you need a solid seal it is there for you, if not, then crack them slightly. I have yet to stew chops with peppers and onions in this set, but I think it will work out great because of the quality seal.Do not hesitate to buy this set. Just ask my wife!6 Month UPDATE: I am still loving this set of cookware. Have definitely got a better grasp on cooking with them now and must say they continue to please both the wife and I.

5Well-made, functional, fabulous-looking set
By Jocelyn Miller
If you like quality, non-stick pans, and you like looking at your food while it cooks, then this is the perfect set for you.

There was some commentary on there being a paint/plastic-like substance under the glass covers--that was the case in the original version of these pans. I am not sure what it was exactly, but Calphalon noticed and addressed the issue. Any set that you order now has properly-made glass covers. In addition to that, if you ordered any of these pots and pans before Calphalon made that change, just notify their customer service people and they will send you replacement lids with no questions asked. I have great respect for a company that addresses its mistakes as quickly as it can through fabulous service.

As to putting these pans in the dishwasher--do NOT do it! Calphalon makes no claims that these pots and pans can go safely in the dishwasher, as, they are lined with _Teflon_. Just as you should use nylon utensils instead of scraping away the Teflon with your metal implements, you should also keep these pans out of the dishwasher as the machine will wear away your non-stick surface. Bottom line: the dishwasher will ruin your pans and void your warranty. Hand washing with non-abrasive sponges is the price you pay for the benefits of non-stick pans. If you don't want to deal with that, buy some stainless steel pans (Calphalon has a nice variety of those too).

As to how the interior lining (Teflon) holds up, I have burned milk in one of my pans, (n.b., scalding and burning are not synonymous in the realm of cooking), and the crud that remained just peeled away without doing any damage to the pan. (I let it soak for a bit to ensure that was the case, but I don't even think that was necessary). And, frying eggs is made so easy! I am even able to make eggs over easy without excessive breakage of the eggs:).

I would say that most people will probably best appreciate the non-stick qualities of the pans for the two frying pans and could safely get a set with non-stick frying pans and stainless steel pots. Calphalon has those varieties as well. Another thing to keep in mind is that non-stick pans do not brown as well as stainless steel or cast iron frying pans. I would recommend having one cast iron frying pan in your set for browning.

In addition to great quality, Calphalon has a lifetime warranty on this line of pans. Don't do anything to void your warranty, (like, put these pans in the dishwasher), and any problems you have with the pans will be remedied by Calphalon. Calphalon has proven to be a strong company thusfar, and I have no reason to suspect that their status will change anytime soon.

Overall, these pans are great for anyone who enjoys ease of cleanup, likes to cook low-fat meals, wants to be able to put their pots and pans in the oven, and/or enjoys a sleek, contemporary style in the kitchen.

5Customer Service is Excellent!
By R. MCCONNELL
I have purchased several individual pieces of the Calphalon Contemporary series. Out of the 8 pieces, that I have purchased individually, I have had two that had the "paint" defect on the lid. Both times I called Calphalon customer service first thing in the morning at about 8:00AM EST. Both times I waited less than 5 minutes to speak with a representative. Both times they simply took my name and address and asked me which lid I needed. Both times they immediately sent me a replacement lid which did not have the defect. Both times they did not require me to send anything back. Both times it required no effort on my part except to verbally tell them that the lid was defective.I totally commend their customer service and will continue buy Calphalon products. It seems that some of you must be living on some other planet or something. I can not figure out why you seem to be having so many problems.

4The Jeep Grand Cherokee of Roasting Pans
By currer_bell
Most of my cook- and bakeware is of the hard-anodized Calphalon ilk. That said, I will admit that the Calphalon was not my first choice for a roasting pan. I will also admit that my first choice was the shiny, uptown All-Clad Roti. And I will even be so brazen as to admit that the Roti was my first choice because (a) it is shiny, (b) it is All-Clad, and (c) I am not immune to the whole cache of All-Clad and that whole "kitchen-bling" thing that it has going on. But then I realized that for the cost of the Roti, I could get the Calphalon, a 25 pound turkey, two bags of cranberries, a bottle of wine, and a vintage cookie jar that I have had my eye on.This pan, like all my stove-tops items, fared amazingly well. The handles are very sturdy. At first, I was a little perturbed by the fact that the handles tilt in (i.e., over the interior of the pan, rather than sticking out), but then I quickly realized that this was handy for many reasons. I thought the pan was easier to lift than other similar-size roasters, even when fully loaded with a 25-pound turkey. Also, I would imagine that for one with an oven less cavernous than mine, having the handles angle in would be more space-economical.I also liked the shape and depth of the pan. Don't think that a roasting pan of this size is something that you bring out only with the Thanksgiving cornucorpia. You can use it for everyday things like casseroles, broasted potatoes, and cobblers. I have used it quite a bit as the "bain" for a bain-marie.It also is very easy to clean, even in the aftermath of mammoth turkey.Drawbacks: I gave it four rather than five stars because while this is a "better" pan, it is arguable that it is not the "best." But there really are not any deal-breaking drawbacks to the pan itself. Especially if one can acquire it at such a low price. I will say, however, that the inward angle of the handles might encroach on the cooking space of the pan. But you would have to be cooking something VERY, almost unimaginably large for this to occur. My biggest peeve was the lifters. I found them pretty much useless, but then again, the lack of efficacy could have been due to the girth of my turkey. Did I mention the 25 pound turkey?Bonuses: The baster rocks. It really makes your carcass of choice moist and delicious. And you get that whole Jonas Salk feeling.Recommendations: Get a flat rack to use in addition to the vented rack that comes with it. That way you can roast and broast smaller, flatter items. Also, try not to through out your meat thermometer with the turkey bones. Which doesn't have anything to do specifically with the Calphalon, but in general is just sound advice.Summary: The All-Clad Roti might be the Cadillac of roasters, but the Calphalon is definitely the Jeep Grand Cherokee -- it works hard, gets the job done, and cleans up nicely.Cheers!

5Makes cooking a great turkey sooo much easier!
By S. Brockman
This is a great pan and the accessories are also great. The handles really make it possible to lift the pan without getting burned or having to fear dropping it. And the injector baster is great--it really make the bird taste great!Excellent product. I'm getting one for my sister, who's a professional cook.

I've had this stock pot for 4 years and it still looks brand new and works great. Often times in the winter I make two batches of soup at the same time so I purchased a second one about a year ago. Couldn't be happier.

4Great, but...
By L. Shimek
I needed a saucepan to cook oatmeal in that would let go on the bits that stick to the bottom. Sounds silly, but I love oatmeal and hate cleaning the pan afterwards. This cleans up easily and cooks evenly. I have used it for cooking rice, gravies and other foods that seem to stick and it always cleans up well. Now, for the lid. There is a black band on the inside of the lid and it scrubed off one night recently. I sat down, wrote an email to the company and by the next day, they have a new lid on the way. They asked only where to send it, nothing else. I like companies that stand by the product they sell. So, if you are going to buy from this line, check that black band, it should be between the glass and the metal, not on the inside of the lid. If you have a problem with the product, ALWAYS notify the manufacturer, they will almost always make it right, like Calphalon did for me.

4Quality Product from Calphalon
By Steven Doherty
This is a great pot; durable, easy to clean, great design. Also, the Contemporary line is Made in USA, whereas the cheaper line; Simply, is Made in China. The only negative about this pot is that the lid handle gets hot and you need to use a oven mitt to take it off. Otherwise, great product

5Great Cooking Gear
By Marchwind1949
My wife and I first purchased Calphalon Contemporary Nostick cooking gear about a year ago. We both love them. Not only do they cook evenly and quickly, but they are easy to handle & store. Additionally, clean up is easier then anything we have previously owned. We purchased some additinal items through Amazon, and received them in less than 5 working days. We are thoroughly impressed with both Calphalon and Amazon.
