I have used an older model of this mill for a 24" bar. That older one was good. This newer one is great. Better design for strength, bracing, adjustability, accuracy and easier to use. The mid brace between the measuring/depth guides makes for a smoother exit cut. The mid vertical handle is also an improvement. I just might need to buy a larger mill and get a 36" bar. Shipping was prompt.

As the helper with most chainsaw chores, I am very happy with this purchase. This sawmill is well designed and easy for two people to use. I would recommend purchasing a guide for the initial cut unless you can make one, as we did. It can be tricky to attach to your chainsaw at first, we had to make sure it wasn't pinching the bar in the wrong place. Properly attached, it made quick work of a large downed cherry and smaller walnut, beautiful boards. We made some 1" and some 1.5" boards, over a foot wide. I don't think this would be so easy for someone to use by themselves, especially when you get to the end of the log. Please watch some youtube videos on using alaska sawmills. I can't compare this to other alaska sawmills, because it is the only one I've ever used, but it is USA made, always a plus

good for hobbyist

I had three trees that I wanted to turn into lumber, and this was the right price and work pace for me. The setup is easy to figure out but can be a little time consuming.
