Product Description

Tripp Lite's SMART1500 intelligent, line-interactive UPS system protects servers, networking accessories and telecommunications equipment from blackouts, voltage fluctuations and transient surges. Large internal batteries offer 20 minutes of half-load runtime, and 7 minutes at full load during power failures. 1500VA / 980 Watt power handling capability supports a variety of networking, telecom and various other application types, including the support of multiple network workstations. This UPS includes a total of 6 outlets, 1 of which can be individually powered on and off via software interface to selectively reboot remote equipment or to automatically shed less significant loads to extend battery runtime for more critical equipment. The SMART1500 supports remote monitoring of UPS and site power conditions via built-in USB and DB9 monitoring ports. This unit also includes PowerAlert UPS monitoring and unattended shutdown software, along with complete cabling. The SMART1500 supports SNMP with an optional SNMPWEBSOLO external adapter. A built-in audible alarm and 5 front-panel LEDs indicate the status of line power, battery power, battery low/replace, voltage regulation and load level. This UPS is also Wall mountable with a UPSWM wall mount bracket. It provides network-grade AC surge suppression, protecting equipment from damage and performance problems resulting from transient surges. The attractive, small-footprint tower housing uses less than 66 square inches of floor or desktop space.

4works well

First, the supplied power management software doesn't work on OS X. Is it really that difficult? No, it's lazy.Next, after being powered ON for 24+ hours, the unit failed to immediately switch to battery during a power failure. My area was experiencing power problems... after the 2nd or 3rd failure to switch I called Tripp Lite tech support. They were very easy to contact (on a relative scale). We looked at the issue. It had switched properly once during the few failures. We decidfed to give it break in time, which worked. After a few days, the UPS began switching reliably during failures.Lastly, tech support was USa, but the unit was made in China. This country is doomed if we can't start making more things here.

3Not bad while it worked.

Worked fine for just over 3 years, but then the batteries failed. This is completely normal, and is not a problem. The problem was how the batteries ended up when they failed. We have many UPS's at our organization, and have started purchasing replacement batteries from a local shop as an alternative to replacing expensive UPS devices. On this unit, there is a back panel with two screws covering the batteries. There was a piece of duct tape wrapped around the 3 batteries to aid in removal. But it didn't help at all because after it broke I could see that the first visible battery was swollen on all sides. This was preventing the removal of the battery because of the extremely tight tolerance the UPS casing has. I probably spent 10 minutes on each battery with a screwdriver and other tools prying them out.I have seen a lot of bad batteries in UPS's, but never ones that have swelled up like this. Once I got them out and put the new ones in, I could really see how tight the battery fitment is. There is zero room for a battery to swell. They should rethink how the batteries are held in place. My only other complaint is the cryptic icons. Instead of labeling a light with 'Load', they put a icon of something like a teeter-totter. I've included a picture of the 3 swollen batteries.

5Works as advertised

I've been a longtime fan of Tripplite UPS's because they have very automatic voltage regulator circuitry in them to help combat the "brown" power issues we typically encounter at our office. This unit is replacement for an old Tripplite unit we had that lasted about 5 years in constant service on our file server - pretty good in my estimation.
