Spode Blue Italian was made possible by Josiah Spode's perfection of blue under-glaze printing in 1784.This collection is a tapestry of blue scene's and figure's. Made in England Blue on White Perfection

This teapot offers a beautifully classic blue and white look, with the lovely old Italian scene of a pictorial country setting and the delicately lovely floral homage to fine china beginnings in China. Complete with a `Made in England' stamp on the bottom, this gloriously shaped 'Blue Italian' Spode Teapot arrived well bubble-wrap packaged within and without of its Spode collector box. This teapot seems to be porcelain or fine bone china in appearance and weight, but this Spode line has been listed as earthenware and stoneware too so maybe only Spode knows, but if it is either of those latter heftier two, it is very lightweight for those wares.Also listed as dishwasher and microwave safe, I can personally vouch for that promise on my coordinating `Made in England Spode Blue Italian' teacups and saucers, because they have been used nearly daily, and have faced the microwave and dishwasher here continually for years, without any hint of aging, crackling or fading. I also have many choice `Vitrified' or strengthened porcelain teacups, saucers, plates, creamers and etcetera (Villeroy and Boch, made in Luxemburg/Germany), that seem very similar in weight, functioning and delicacy to this Spode line. High marks on all these English and German made items I've collected.One coordinating Spode Blue dessert plate I bought from the A was made in Malaysia and it seemed heavier and darker - not quite the same. I've read that some Spode Blue items have come from other countries too, and there were those that were of lesser or differing quality. Apparently, the `Spode Blue Italian' teacups and saucers and a host of other items are not currently being made in England, and I hope this changes - that the manufacturing returns to England, because I will only buy Spode made in England for my continued `Blue Italian' collection. I would like to buy much more Spode Blue over time, but only if England is stamped on the bottom of the items, and the quality continues.This teapot did have a minor starring role on Downton Abbey at least once that I saw, and I'm sure I have at least seen the matching teacups and saucers on a few Jane Austen and similar movies, which would be in keeping with those and Bronte, Gaskell, Dickens or other such period pieces, because this china style and pattern has been around since the Regency period and persisted throughout the Victorian times and beyond. This delights my own senses, because of my eighteen hundreds romantic sensibilities. I live, eat, drink and breathe Austen, Bronte, Gaskell, Dickens and so forth, so to own and use these kinds of `period pieces' in my life suits me perfectly.Many repeated `thank-yous' to all the customers who answered my question about the `Made in England' stamp on the bottom so that I could purchase this teapot with the confidence I wanted. I couldn't be more thrilled to have finally brought this home, from across the pond. This will be a true blue English treasure amongst many in my teapot collection. High recommendations on this one.
