3Good performance, Poor layout
By RDC Tech
I have been using this Minidisc recorder for about 6 months and overall it's not a bad little recorder. The battery life is excellent and it can record upto 320 minutes of audio. It has a reasonable speaker for its size. The few hiccups I have are;Built-in MONO microphone (Sony calls it a flat mic.), no back light for the display, slow rewind/review response, Track mark button should have been placed closer to the Record button, the open catch could have been recessed - More than once I have picked the unit up while it was playing and the case opened and the MD fell out! Hmm... frustrating. This unit does NOT allow you to label tracks. Useless carry pouch - what ever happened to those great custom fit leather cases Sony used to produce with their portable electronics? I miss those! I suggest anyone contemplating purchasing this unit to look at the B100 model. Or even hold off for a while until the new Hi-MD format reaches the notetakers. It could save alot of heartache.

5Unique item. Worth the investment
By M. Tigner
Looking at all record formats including solid-state recorders I settled on Sony's MZ-B line of recorders. Since the MZ-B100 I wanted something that could provide me with a cheap removable media solution as well as the flexibility of a digital unit. This recorder uses proven minidisc technology and creates a recorder that is truly unlike no other except its bigger cousin the MZ-b100.It has a built in pitch control (-50% slow and 100% fast) and twin speaker playback, a stereo mic and headphone jack, and a professional quality flat mic. It's great for musicians and with 5 1/2 hour (320min) LP 4 mode great for executives, students, doctors...etc. The sound quality is exceptional even in LP 4 mode. I have a Net md recorder and it plays my prerecorded discs as well. There are few minor negatives I have to bring up. The record mode button on the side can be pressed inadvertently. The pop up record button may lock into record mode one or two seconds into your recording. Otherwise, you can be assured that this unit is top-notch Sony product. If you've never been fortunate enough to own a minidisc device get a net md first (used) and then get one of the MZ-B's I recommend this unit as a voice recorder only since It cannot download music.

55 stars for the item, 0 stars for Amazon.
By Adam B. Lee
This item is great, I gave it to my girlfriend so that she could record her choir's performances in Ireland. It produced excellent sound, has good battery life, and a reliable onboard mic. I used SoundForge to transfer the audio to my PC and edited from there for a compilation CD. For the product, I say A+. However, after trying to purchase it here and striking out, I ended up going with J&R Electronics, who I fully recommend. On Monday, June 5, I ordered the Sony MZ-B10 from Warehouse Deals, an Amazon.com subsidiary that handles all their returned, refurbished, and overstock merchandise. At $170, I was saving $50 off the lowest advertised price (and it lists for $399). After selecting the expedited shipping option, a package arrived on Friday (well within their advertised time for expedited shipping).Upon opening the package, however, I discovered that they sent me someone else's order. I received two adolescent psychology books that should have gone to Los Angeles.Figuring it would be a simple matter to send my package back, explain the situation, and get my minidisc recorder, I was then told that they could not send me the MZ-B10 because they only had one. More surprisingly, they told me that even if they recovered the item, they could not pass it back to me, but would instead sell it again on Amazon.com. While refunding my money, they explained that because of their error, there was no possible way for me to get my purchase. After speaking to a manager at Amazon.com named Eric, he gave me a $100 promotional credit towards an Amazon.com purchase. With my $170 refund and the $100 credit, I could then purchase another MZ-B10 for $220 (new) and have $50 for my trouble. Unfortunately, I discovered that the promotional credit I received was not good in the whole Amazon.com Marketplace, and that the MZ-B10 is not available directly through Amazon. After speaking to another manager, named Nikki, I was told that there was no possible way a credit could be issued that would be good throughout the Amazon.com Marketplace. This, despite the fact that I am a frequent Amazon.com Visa user, and am aware that their reward certificates are good throughout Amazon.com, partner vendor or not. She refused to change my promotional credit to a reward credit. While I have been a frequent and loyal Amazon.com customer for many years, I will not be patronizing them in the future. The fact that they can allow a subsidiary to sell me a product, not deliver it, and if they recover it sell the item again, is just unacceptable. While I appreciate the $100 promotional credit, and am glad that my money is being refunded, what I really want is the item, which is going to cost me no less than $50 more, take me more time, and isn't even available directly from Amazon.com (which makes the $100 credit pretty useless). Thanks for nothing Amazon.
