5Great step up
By Keith Riser
First off let me commend Amazon on the shipping. I ordered Wacom 6x8 on a Tuesday around 11:00 am, and it was delivered to me the next day around 10:00 am and I ordered it using the free super saver shipping!

The product is great. I was previously using an Aiptek Hyperpen 6x8 pad. There is no comparison. I found the Wacom to be much more precise at slow movement speeds. In addition the writing surface is very nice. There is a little bit of texture to the overlay which feels very good when using the pen. With the Aiptek, the surface was so smooth, I had to tape a piece of paper over the surface.

I will give one bit of advice though. The overlay is initially very hard to lift. Static cling makes the thing almost impossible to lift. No where in the documentation or online does it say how to lift the overlay. After contacting tech support, it was suggested to take a piece of masking tape, place a strip on the bottom of the overlay, right by the Wacom logo. Make sure you leave a bit extra over past the overlay to act as a handle to pull on. Then just pull up slowly and it will lift the overlay. The overlay is fixed at the top, so only the bottom part will swing up, so don't bring it up to far otherwise you could bend the overlay and it would be hard to get flat again.

Otherwise I don't have any complaints. It is a great product and I think the 6x8 size is perfect for pretty much all tasks. Any bigger would require too much arm movement. 6x8 is pretty analogous to the movement you would make on a regular sheet of paper. If you are thinking of a larger size and don't really have need for the ability to trace large images or drawings, try this for a test. Measure out a 9x12 area, and take a pencil and try drawing a line from the top left to the bottom right. You will see it take a lot of arm movement. Imagine having to do that whenever you want to click a tool somewhere on the left and then draw somewhere else on the screen, it can get tiring. Bigger is not always better.

I would highly recommend anyone who does graphical work on a computer to pick up this product.

5An excellent tool for artists.
By Alex Wolf
I have been holding out for a neutral-colored professional tablet from Wacom for quite a while, and here it is. The Platinum 6 x 8 Intuos 2 tablet works very well with my Mac, and it looks great too. It is very obvious that the build quality is excellent. The pen, which is very comfortable, comes with a stand that will not easily tip over. The replacement tips will come in handy over time. I think the 6 x 8 model is a very good deal, especially considering you receive Photoshop Elements 2 with it in the software package.

Artists will love the creative freedom you have with the pen. The amount of control you have over brush strokes, for example, is as exhilarating as a computing experience can be. I stayed up until 4:00 am drawing in Photoshop, I couldn't put the pen down! Do not hesitate to buy this new Platinum model.

Amazon also deserves credit for getting this tablet to me, via UPS 2nd day air, within 26 hours of when I purchased it!

5I've tried both 4x5 and 6x8
By A Customer
It was really hard deciding between the Intuos2 4x5 and the 6x8. In the past I've used these tablets both at home and at work. I mainly do photo retouching in Photoshop. The 4x5 is pretty expensive for a little tablet and there is a great deal on the 6x8 Platinum (cheaper than the purple 6x8). At these prices I can only afford to get one tablet. I want it to be the right one. I picked both of them up at a local electronics store and have them side by side in front of me now for testing. I'm only using a single 19 inch monitor. The 4x5 is a little small. You have to be more accurate with it to select menus, click icons etc. This accuracy requires you to make very small and precise hand movements that I'm finding makes my hand a little stressed and tired. You have to remember that a pen is not like a mouse. With a mouse you can move over an icon and hold it there without clicking on it. With a pen you have to have the tip hover over the pad in that location. If you touch the pad it means you clicked something. Any little movement of the hovering pen causes the cursor to move around. You are much more steady with a mouse. The 6x8 tablet is physically twice as big as the 4x5 and thicker. It is a bigger commitment of desk space. I must say that it feels more comfortable than the 4x5. With the 4x5 my hand would have to go off the right edge when I wanted to select something all the way on the right side of the screen. With the 6x8 the cursor isn't as wobbly when hovering over a point. My hand movements are a little looser since the tablet's active area is bigger and my hand is not as stressed when trying to click a tiny button on the screen. If you ever want to go with dual monitors forget about the 4x5. It would be way too small. Don't even think about getting anything bigger than a 6x8 either. Many have forked out the dough for bigger tablet and live to regret it. I'm keeping the 6x8 and returning the 4x5. If you can afford it, get the 6x8. If you can't afford the extra cost, you can make due with the 4x5. Where I would recommend the 4x5 is for laptops.
