When being Uptight is a Good thing

I suppose it seems a tad pricey but this device is well-made and it does exactly what it was designed to do. The installation instructions were clear, no missing parts, and it's safe. It took me about 30 minutes to install. If you use your bandsaw a lot and hate fooling with that tiny knob, it really is a joy to lock-in the appropriate tension with a quick flip of the lever.

I am now reminded when I leave tension on the blade of my Delta 14" Band Saw by the red knob sticking straight up from my saw. Prior to installing this Quick Release, I would typically forget to loosen that annoying knob that came with the saw. This product is a bit pricey, as someone else pointed out, but I was doing the Riser Block and decided this would be a good time to do both. Since you basically remove everything from the upper half of the saw to install this release, the riser block is a piece of cake when done at the same time. This release had clear instructions for installation and the fit and finish is excellent.

I have an older hex post rockwell 14" saw which has the closed front upper arm casting and I was not sure if this tensioner would fit. It does, but you can't just drill throught for the mounting holes like they suggest in the directions because you have no way to put nuts on the screws. You must in stead drill and tap two 1/4-20 holes into the cast iron of the saw to mount the tensioner. despite this additional step the installation was a snap and took only about half an hour start to finish. as for the tensioner itself, man is this thing nice. blade changes are super fast(which is a blessing if you own a wood/metal cutting version like mine where you are changing blades fairly often), it is really nice to be able to relieve tention on the blade when not in use, and it is built like a brick $#!?house. the main body is machined out of a solid block of steel and the quality is top notch. It seems expensive but when you get it you will know where your money went.
