4Wheelwriter 1500 review
By B. O. America
Our IBM Wheelwriter 1500 has worked fine until yesterday, when it began beeping on the sixth character of every typed line. I've downloaded a manual, which gives instructions for several combination of beeps and blinking lights but nothing applicable. The machine was serviced a couple months ago, and there are no blinking lights associated with the beeps. Consultations on this issue to me kindly provided experts from the company Enjoy Depot [...] and I am very grateful. The IBM Lexmark Wheelwriter 1500 Typewriter is great for general typing tasks such as forms, envelopes, labels and memos.

5Enables you to take a trip down memory lane (typewriter memories)
By Tom Brody
I bought my IBM Wheelwriter in 1986 for about $750. I used it for typing manucripts in biochemistry and nutrition, and for typing the first edition of my book, Nutritional Biochemistry, published by Academic Press. The Wheelwriter has a nifty, business-like, no-nonsense design, but the design also has futuristic Star Wars overtones. I am referring to the way the flip top of the Wheelwriter is situated over the body of the typewriter, possibly resembling the form of Darth Vader's helmet. The best part is switching on the machine. When switching on the Wheelwriter, the writer is treated to some beeps, and to some whisking sounds, as the sturdy font-hammering unit moves briskly to the right and to the left. The writer will also be impressed by the degree of silence, following the initial warm-up period. The Wheelwriter is distinguished by the ease of changing the font wheels, that is, when one needs to type in Times New Roman, or when using a less formal font, or when needing to type Greek letters. The Wheelwriter is also distinguished by its exceptional capability in erasing letters, or even in erasing an entire sentence. The Wheelwriter has a small memory that remembers the past couple of sentences, enabling you to back up and erase letters or phrases. Replacement ribbons are easy to install, as they come in a snap-in cartidge. These cartridges can only be used once. Gone are the days of clumsily changing cotton fiber ribbons, and attempting to thread the cotton fiber ribbon through the "eye of the needle" situated before the typing surface. Also, I like the fact that different colored ribbons are available, that is, black, brown, or blue.Eventually, my Wheelwriter died. But it spontaneously recovered, when I took it to get repaired (the repair shop did NOTHING at all, except clean the keys and charge me $100.00). And later, the Wheelwriter died again. I think the reason was that I was storing it in my bedroom, which was right next door to the laundry room, with its continual production of water vapor.EPILOGUE. I typed the second edition of my book, Nutritional Biochemistry, on a PC. And in this past year, I typed my third book, Clinical Trials, also on a PC. My third book is also published by Academic Press. Wheelwriters are still useful, because office tasks sometimes require filling out paper forms where there are little boxes that need to be filled in neatly. But for most day-to-day work, the notion of using a Wheelwriter or any other form of typewriter would be absurd.

By Kathleen Brown
Love it! You can't buy a better typewriter. It has all the functions I need, including relocate, micro page up and down, reloc and correct.
