5A super great tool for any kitchen
By M. Johnston
I replaced my 8 qt. Presto PC with this one a few years back. I bought this one because of it's big enough to make large batches of soup. I make the best homemade soups and stews in record time. This thing is solid and well crafted, best of all, no loose parts. I disagree with the person who complained about the short handles. For a pot this size, I think that you are less likely to spill when the handles are even. I've never burned myself. I would highly reccomend this pressure cooker.

5Same quality I've come to expect with LOTS more room!
By Rachael Bush
I bought this pressure cooker after having used my Kuhn Rikon 2.5 and 5 quart models for the past five years. I love this brand and have been more than satisfied every time I use them. I wanted something a bit larger so that I could double soup recipes and cook corn on the cob, and this 12 quart model certainly fits the bill! I cooked 18 ears of corn and there was still room for plenty more, just count on it taking more time for pressure to be reached since the internal volume is so huge. I highly recommend this whole line of pressure cookers, no where else will you find such a well made and quiet pressure cooker, they are worth their weight in gold for any cook who wants to save energy and time. Plus, Amazon has the best price I found on the internet!

18 Years later, still frustrated with perfomance
By Star Tulip
I have come to the computer to write this review because I have had enough of this pressure cooker. I've always bought the higher end PCs, never aluminum, etc, and as a result, I'm used to PCs that perform well. I've been using them about once to three times a week for 25 years. You might call me experienced with a variety of the better PCs.As I sit here, I can hear my lovely, very expensive Kuhn Rikon whisper from the other room. Why people rate this PC by how loud it is eludes me...most of my PCs have been relatively quiet, but then I've always tended toward the higher end PCs, such as the stainless steel T-Fals. And those have never, and I mean NEVER given me the trouble this Kuhn Rikon has given me over the last 8 years. Note that many reviews you read on this unit were written a week after, maybe a few months after purchase. This is important to note, really, really important. Eight years out, I'm writing this review.I was happy, too, initially. It was just as good as the T-Fal I'd been using for the last 12 years, but it held so much more, and that was a delight. I tend to cook large batches of things and freeze. What a delight to have twice the room! But within a year, I believe less, maybe 9 months, the cooker was leaking through the "wonderful" five pressure release holes on the lid and the little pressure release button on top of the lid. I replaced the gasket - and note that this was less than a year from purchase, and that helped out a good bit. Only cost me $35 plus shipping of $7. I say "only" with a great deal of sarcasm you cannot hear as you read. Then I thought I'd better replace the rubber seal on the button since it was leaking too. That cost a pretty penny as well.Since then, I go through about 1 gasket every 9-12 months, like clockwork. I've replaced the rubber button seal twice. The major guts of the PC, the valve in the middle, has had to be completely "rebuilt" once with myriad parts needing replacement through the years in addition. The valve caps split about twice a year, which is probably why they're sold in pairs. The one part I have not had to replace on the lid is the stainless steel metal bell housing, but all it does is sit atop the PC looking pretty, really, so if I had to replace that part, well, that would be serious insult to injury. However, I have had no trouble with the screwed on handles on either the pot or lid. It's only the functional parts that "work" the pressure cooker that have created such havoc with this PC. I need to babysit it whenever I cook because I never know when it's going to need some coddling. I've never, NEVER used a pressure cooker with such high maintenance needs. Here's a link to find out how much replacement parts will cost you. [...]My trusty T-Fal, which I use as often as my KR, only needs the lid gasket replaced every 3- 4 years. I've replaced a rubber valve seal once in the 12 years I've had it, and that was about 4 years ago, 8 years into using it, and before getting the KR, I used the T-Fal twice as much as I use the KR now. This Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker reminds me of buying a horse. You save up your money to buy the best horse you can find. You wait, you long, you save, you resist a cheaper horse because you want the best. After a time, you have the money, you find your horse, your bank account is depleted, but you are oh so happy. You muck out your horse's stall, you feed him, you ride him, you love him, but darn, those bales of hay sure do disappear fast! And has it already been six weeks? Time for the shoer again! Worming, oh my, just routine maintenance and upkeep, they say. Four a.m. and you can hear him banging around in the barn, acting funny...better go out and walk him to ensure colic doesn't set in. What a relief all's well as you watch the sun rise, just as the vet shows up. Since you've got to pay for the vet visit even though all turned out well, you might as well get him to scrape your horse's teeth, routine...This is the Kuhn Rikon Hotel cooker - a thoroughbred that requires a lot of babying and money throughout its long life. If you're OK with that, well, I agree that this is definitely the prettiest and quietest pressure cooker I've ever used. Absolutely!
