Canon Tripod Mount Ring B

I bought the mount ring on the recommendation of a photo class instructor who said it would better balance the camera/lens assembly and allow me to rotate the camera from horizontal to vertical format.I mounted the assembly to my Canon 30D camera and Canon 100mm macro lens and found the assembly to work quite well, even though a little unbalanced on the camera side. I was able to rotate the camera from horizontal to vertical format easily by loosening the ring screw (black knob) a little.The one problem I had, and thus the 4 stars, was that there were no instructions on how to mount the assembly to my lens. It wasn't obvious how to put the outer ring over the plastic insert without breaking something. I finally figured it out after a couple of sessions. (Mount the plastic insert with the small knobs towards the front of the lens, and then slide the outer ring over the plastic ring with foot facing the front of lens. Press the outer ring forward with a twist until it snaps in place over the small knobs.)

Although the product works fine, for the $150, they could at least include a diagram and instructions!! I never would have figured it out by myself! So thank you to the internet trawlers who answer questions from distressed customers!!

If you need this for your lens, and it its gonna be tough not to, there's more or less only one manufacturor to get it from. So ... get it. Just don't lose the inner ring. Oh, the mount works just like the product description says it would, and the ring is the right balance point for both Rebel XTi and 40D bodies.
